Game lets you distribute stat points

>game lets you distribute stat points
>the optimal build is to just dump it all on the same stat

Why is this allowed? Which games actually have good systems to allow diverse and varied builds?

>Mage - all INT
>Warrior - all STR
>Rogue - all DEX
>Healer - all FAITH
y

Ragnarok still did it the best for me

>stat points gained per level increase as you level more, but so does the cost of increasing each stat, making it diminishing returns. Increasing 90 to 99 from one stat will cost the same amount of points as increasing 1-30 for another, meaning that focusing just on one or two stats is not always optimal
>every stat is useful for every class, mages can benefit from DEX due to reduced Cast Times, Physical damage dealers benefit from INT due to increased MP, MP regen, MP regained from consumables and Magic Def. Non-melee attackers benefited from STR due to the increased load weight, etc.

It had its flaws, but I wish more games did similar mechanics.

> the optimal build is to just dump them all in one stat

Dark Souls is so retarded, they almost got it right in the first game, and then made it even worse in the sequels

>IQ of 13

I wasn't too hot on the game itself, but Age of Decadence has amazing character building that not only translates into combat but will also give you an entirely different story

have you played Bloodborne?

If you havnt you might not realise how retarded that build is, END stops giving any stamina after 40 (I think you get one more point if you keep going), and 40 END is overkill because everything is stamina efficient. Most people min-maxing build's use 10-20 depending on what weapons they are using. So it's basically an unoptimised level 50 character fighting against level 100+'s.

But the funny thing is: END Yourself was actually a tough opponent in PvP. I got memed on too many times by the endless dash-r1 wheel spam.

I know, but it would be better if the "diminishing returns" were more linear rather than almost forcing people to leave End at 40 maximum.

Wait.
I tought that past the level 50 the stamina stopped growing.

Wizardry 6-8 has the best character system

>tfw wanted to play wizardry but it looks like one of these very old rpgs that aged super poorly

its actually plays pretty smoothly provided you can deal with the graphics. since is fully keyboard controlled its a great game to play on a laptop in bed, very comfy if you put some dark ambient on.

its a combatfag game though.

if you you really cant stand it but wanna try an oldschool RPG you could either start with Wizardry 8, which is more modern, or you could start with Might & Magic 3 which is much easier to get into

>Which games actually have good systems to allow diverse and varied builds?

Tales of Maj'Eyal

Ragnarok had shit build variety though, there were only a couple of optimal builds for every class which everyone copied point to point.

It had extremely specialized classes and was the same as just dumping all points into one stat.

combat is so incredibly boring in maj'eyal, ive played it for many hours and basically the whole game is an insane amount of trashmobs that wears your attention down and once you are in autopilot it throws some mean motherfucker at you that instagibs you

Damn good game. Great combat for a roguelike. Paradox Mage is fucking OP as fuck though.

It's alright, the potential is rather wasted as it's not party-based, though. Having a variety of builds is more enjoyable in part RPGs.

>not leaving some room for some CON/VIT
GLASSCANNON

>ALL LUK EVERY GAME

Yeah the whole game is out to bait you into overusing autoexplore and autocombat so it can kill you with some bullshit once your eyes start to droop.
