What class/race/background should I pick?
Any obligatory mods or anything?

You're in for a good game. If you want to be OP, pick human mage and go arcane warrior. Dwarf rogue is also fun.
A very generic RPG, but it's pretty good. I liked the variety in builds.
By the way, I'm planning on playing the hardest difficulty, so anything like a mod that increases the challenge(but keeps things fair/non-grindy) is welcomed.
Human Noble for race/background since it's the one that makes the most sense story-wise and gives you the most personal connection to the antagonist.
Don't pick Mage because it alters your background to a mage towercuck slave, regardless of race. Besides the game showers you with good mage companions, Morrigan especially.
a good game.
also Zevran is gay as fuck.
Seconding this, arcane warrior is very fun and OP.
Mage is literally the shittiest background you can pick though, and you can still become Arcane Warrior if you start as a Warrior.
Pretty good CRPG. Wish the recent CRPG successors were designed similarly.
Might be OP but it's boring as shit
>Showers
Aren't there only 2? Morrigan and Wynne?
Morrigan is a beast as Arcane Warrior but Wynne is the only proper healer you'll get unless you go mage
>human
>male
>warrior
>morrigan romance
This is the correct way to play
No, you can't
Morrigan
Wynne
Anders
Velanna
You can, I did.
Are there even any good mods for DA:O aside from The Fade skip?
Lock Bash
Permanent Dog Companion or something like that (so he doesn't take up a companion slot and instead becomes a permanent one)
Various visual mods
That's the expansion tho, its still only 2 for the main game then only 2 for the expansion
you'd be as well saying you get showered in warriors and rogues since theres more of them in both
>and you can still become Arcane Warrior if you start as a Warrior.
No you can't you fucking noob.
Also, mage isn't that bad of a background.
No, it's a mage spec. You might be thinking of Spirit Warriors. There are no cross class specs.
>inbreds ITT actually shilling for Mage despite Morrigan being basically a permanent companion pick for 90% of players
>inbreds ITT actually wanting to be a LITERAL nigger slave dindu locked in a tower as a background escaping by raping and killing your way out
Yeah Sup Forums is definitely 12 years old.
You need Sten in your motherfucking party.
Pick human nobility but not a mage. Human noble origin connects you with the main plot more than the other origins. The other origins only connect you with the side stories.
There's a chance at a demon chick that offers you power or sex. Take power it'll unlock a class spec while the sex scene is shit and viewable online.
Pick whoever you want to romance.
Meta for nightmare difficulty is rogue.
Have fun
Shit you're right, it was Spirit Warrior.
Blame BioWare for their retarded names.
As if they couldn't fucking call them Spellblade and Paladin respectively.
>using story justifications over gameplay justifications
I think we all know the real 12 year old here
>playing RPGs for gameplay
Same as reading books for the cover artworks and watching porn for the story
Arcane Warrior is a melee spec.
I dunno man some books have really good cover art and shit story and some porn is better than the material its a parody of
Kill yourself, you are legitimately a waste of air.
Nah, nightmare difficulty is more than enough to keep the game paused 95% of the time anyway.
>mah tsundere
>permanent companion pick for 90% of players
Come back in 6 years, champ.
You're in a minority of contrarians, neck yourself.
>escaping by raping and killing your way out
Okay now you got me interested.
You're the one getting mad at anonymous people on the internet friend
plus a Morrigan fag which says it all
You unleash a desire demon which starts screwing with the students and then you kill everyone trying to stop you on your way out.
-One of the best gameplay mechanics for what is essentially a turn based rpg
-One of the best written companions (sven) ever introduced into an rpg
-good amount of playtime and replayabilit (you can egt really anal about your party skills etc)
-playbale with a gamepad is always a +
Nothing to worry here, wish I hadnt started over for more than 12+ times to get the beginning right on the hardest difficulty
> gameplay better than roleplay
You're the reason why RPGs are turning to shit. Because of people like you companies try to focus on gameplay but failing to the point where we get neither good gameplay nor good roleplay story elements.
>turn based rpg
DAO is LITERALLY real-time with pause done right.
Maybe if you're a boring fuck
so a turn based rpg with a real time component, aggree.
It was a joke user, if you want to start as a class because of story or because of gameplay that's your deal. I was just being contrarian with the dude for getting uptight about the mage opening
>turn based rpg
It's been called "WoW with a pause button" when it came out. Dunno why you'd call that turn based.
>playbale with a gamepad
TONS better with KB+M. DA2 and DAI can be played however (and if) you want.
Is magi really the best origin? Or should I do a dwarf one?
you're about the get spied by EA while you emtpy your load at cute anime girls on your screen
Mage, Dorf Noble and Human Noble are the best ones. Just pick whatever looks most interesting to you.
There is nothing turn-based about it. At all.
This. In my first playthrough I missed Sten and I fucking regretted it once I realised.
Just explore Lothering thoroughly once you get there and you'll find him. Don't move on before you recruit him.
Mages are extremely OP in this game, going full mage party is basically "fuck you, I win" button, regardless of difficulty.
City Elf is also pretty good.
>elf
You can just get 2 mage companions, no?
City Elf is my favourite, gives you legit reason to hate every motherfucker you meet
>TONS better with KB+M. DA2 and DAI can be played however (and if) you want.
Played exclusivly with k and m, dont know how playable it is with a gamepad but I often prefer a gamepad to keyboard and mouse
>It's been called "WoW with a pause button" when it came out. Dunno why you'd call that turn based.
wow is basicly a turn based combat where you choose your attacks in real time except for that movement component that is pretty much what ruioned the combat system since you arent commited to your attacks like for example in final fantasy 12 that still has the best turn based real time combat system to date.
Nigga be tripping if you think Human Noble is better than Dwarf Noble.
Yeah I meant 3 mages in a party. Especially if you develop them to support each other, are aware of spell combinations, etc.
Human Noble ties into the story most strongly and its ties become most prominent right as the story is reaching its climax
Dwarf Noble gives you access to a major subplot and lots of additional dialogue in the dwarf capital Orzammar
Mage provides important background information on the Mage Tower and majorly colours the way many NPCs will interact with you (mages are feared and strictly controlled)
Dalish lets you be a typical elfy elf if you're into that crap and includes links to ancient artifacts the Eluvians, which are a major plot point in Origins DLC (and Inquisition)
City Elf basically gives you carte blanche to be a dick to every human in the world (city elves are treated as second class citizens and your origin story REALLY emphasises this) but there's not a whole lot of depth beyond that.
Poorfag Dwarf is probably the weakest origin overall but there's a neat rags-to-riches narrative going on there that's kind of endearing.
>tfw DA:O has the perfect RPG gameplay, it's better than the archaic outdated D&D shit from Baldur's Gate/NVN, and better than modern RPG casualized shit
>no company will ever make a gameplay similar to it again
it hurts
This is wrong because nvn just has a smaller party but the gamepklay is equally good. And no, no red tuinted galsses, opklayed origins first that bladrus gate one and than nvn.
Origins is good because its more dynamic (more chars to pla with)
Nvn is good because it has insane amount of playtime and content while still rocking interesting storx and gameplay elements.
Baldurs gate was decent but I really liked it the least.
In terms of connection to the story
>best
Human noble
Dwarf noble
>good
Mage
Dwarf commoner
>ok
Elf commoner
>next to no relevance
Dhalish
nightmare mode is actually difficult.
But if you want even more difficulty don't mod the ability to change talents for your team. The game auto invests talents based on the level they come in to your party so that will make it even harder.
Personally I felt it unfair to make it so you can't respec so I have that in even for nightmare mode.
Magi human
Going full heal slut is veryrewarding more than in any game with similar combat and mechanics Ive played. juggling with life and death in split seconds makes you feel more important since you need to micro manage your party at the same time.
