Also just to clarify Dead Rising 1 is the only one worth playing. Take or leave 2, 3 misses the mark and 4 takes the piss.

I also liked Dead State a lot.

This, State of Decay is incredible it has a proper campaign unlike most open world zombie games, some management and is pretty well made considering all it's limitation being an xbox live arcade game.
The military campaign is also really interesting, never seen a game where you play the military after a zombie outbreak.

SoD 2 will be even better with co-op and a dev team four times as large.

State of decay is probably your best bet for long term replayability and zombie apocalypse immersion. Play break down mode. start with a random dude in a random location in the map with 3 random bases to choose and start at (can be changed later with enough materials and such). Thousands of weapons and tons of characters (no real personality I play with no voice volume anyway but different skills and stats and looks). Tons of fun.
