Character design and graphic matters. You can do great gameplay with great design and graphics. It's all a question of if you're a lazy fuck or a passioned games company.

Battleborn had horrendous graphics and shit character design with no consistency. but the character ability in this game were very originals.

An unbalanced game doesn't immediately make it shit or unsuccessful as games like UMvC3, Third Strike and Melee has proven. People here tend overestimate how important balance is when it comes to fighting games. I mean, there's obviously a line where you don't want everyone playing Petshop, for example, but at the same time there's only so much you could patch within the complexity of an entire roster without making them all play the same.

And character design does play a big part in fighting games, the genre's at it's core is one-to-one fighting action. There's a reason why almost every fighting game has a diverse, roundabout roster that anyone could pick and relate to.

All aspects of a game are important.

Shitty or nonexistent character design is pretty bad, if I'm gonna play devil's advocate. There's times where if a character is designed very deliberately, you're more enticed to play it. When it looks like just a jumbled mess of "features", or is so obsessed with being realistic that it cannot be assed to actually make any memorable or interesting components, it's gonna drive lots of people away from playing it.

This game gets worse and worse to me as the years go by. Not sure what I liked so much about it way back when.
