>tfw no games depicting the treachery, despair, and failed ambitions of the Horus Heresy
Tfw no games depicting the treachery, despair, and failed ambitions of the Horus Heresy
>Not wanting a Great Crusade game first so the Horus Heresy Game is all the more tragic
>Not wanting Horus Heresy game that saves your empire you made from the last game and uses it as a setting
>Not wanting a good 40k game first so they dont ruin a 30k game with shitty gameplay
Can I read Horace Heresy without ever having played a 40k game, and knowing nothing about the series as a whole?
40K always seemed like scifi I would enjoy
Nice idea. A grand strategy game would certainly capture the scope of the Heresy but I've always wanted a Battlefront-esque type game where you fight at key battles like Isstvaan, Calth, Signus Prime, Terra, etc.
>DoW
>bad
It was a good game for its time, but hasn't aged well.
Yes you can, some are good and some you should avoid. /tg/ has a list floating around of what books to read.
Yes, but context is important. Horus Heresy is detached from 40k because it takes place 10,000 years prior. The Great Crusade and the Heresy are the events that directly lead to the state that Imperium in 40k is in.
The Horus Heresy is pretty sad at certain points. It really nails the whole "Death of a Dream" idea.
I didnt say DoW was bad. but its scope was too small to properly pull off a 30k/crusade/heresey game.
Should I read something else first to make HH more neat to go back to then?
Someone else suggested Gaunt's Ghosts as a good starting point.
Friendly reminder that Magnus did everything wrong. Had he not done what he did, they could have recovered from it in better shape, and possibly even have ended it earlier.
And nothing of value was lost.
download codices to read something about marines, chaos, the imperial guard, see how the imperium works. maybe read lexicanum a little bit, especially fluff on the emperor, dark age of technology, age of strife etc. then start the series with horus rising
As in, 40k books? There are some recommendation image lists of 40k books floating around that might get posted here. If you're striking out blind and don't have a favorite faction then try reading pages on the Lexicanum(it's a website).
If you just want some of my suggestions: 15 Hours(Imperial Guard), the Space Marine Omnibuses, Gaunts Ghosts, Eisenhorn(Inquisition), Storm of Iron(Iron Warriors), etc
Gaunts Ghosts if you want Vietnam in space.
Ciaphas Cain for a more lighter 40k experience.
Thanks for the suggestions. I guess Ill read codex stuff for a while first, rather than go in blind. See what I like.
I just thought the book stuff was more self contained before.
books are more fun when you have context, that's why you should read codex fluff sections and lexicanum first
Can't get over how good this book was. Definitely up there with The First Heretic, Calth, Betrayer, and A Thousand Sons.
>"the dream of humanity is dead"
:,(
I gave up on that never ending fucking series by the time of the first heretic, give me the rundown on these, what's the tweeeeeeest this time?
>my King
>King
Way to give Big E a demotion, asshole
The rundown on Master of Mankind?
No twist, no crazy plot macguffins, no overbearing characters. Just the first great step towards the decay of the Imperium.
It's a must read if you like the Horus Heresy.
The Custodians are whats left of the Emperor's original guard before he established the Imperium. He was a King before he united earth.
The Custodes call him things like that
"Liege", "King", and even "father". The novel even dotes upon the names like these. The Emperor is portrayed as caring about his Custodes like a father would but he refers to the primarchs as "the creatures that call me father". Dude really did not enjoy the idea of the Primarchs as his sons. They were tools, ones that he knew he would need to one day get rid of.
