What ever happened to the Monster Rancher series? Also anyone else miss swapping all the cds you could find trying to see what monsters popped out?

CDs stopped existing.
Pokemon happened.
Seems like an easily by passable problem if they include a little usb scanner with a game. Just scan random barcodes for random monsters.
nickelback always gave the shitty monsters
harry potter gave me a dope owl
a tool cd gave some orange mother fucker
>mfw NIN and Marilyn Manson cds always gave me great monsters
Popped in Drakengard one day and it spawned a Dragon. I don't know how they determined what disk gave what but it was funny how accurate it was sometimes
Was the anime any good? I have almost zero memory of it
I vaguely remember it being mediocre but i never finished watching it.
remember that fansite controversy?
I WAS TRANSPORTED TO A FARAWAY LAND

name any video game opening better than this
protip: you cant
TO A WORLD WHERE MONSTERS RULE
I can certainly name a worse opening. Its so bad i didnt remember it being this terrible.

forgot the link
1- the monster designs were fucking ungodly unappealing by the most part.
2- literal monster reskins (I like this one tho, most people don't).
3- weird combat system
4- shit anime
5- Pokemon and Digimon are fucking titans compared to this one and they are it's direct competitors.
>6- Fucking Pokemon as it's rival for fuck sake.
The franchise never had a chance.
>one of the longest lifespans
>massive stat gains
>powerful moves
how do other monsters even compete?
What ever happened to the Monster Rancher series?
Series started to suck after the 3rd game
>ywn run home to watch DBZ on YTV and then inuyasha before bed
>ywn have adventures with your tomcat in your shitty west coast suburb armed with bright neon waterguns from dollar giant while wearing spytech shit
It's not fair
This. CD might not exist but imagine it on phones and instead of cd swapping, you scan qr/barcodes.
German opening best opening
Pokemon happened. And they started sucking in the later games. nobody has CDs anymore anyway
What was it about?
There was a gbc monster rancher game I fucking loved
Pokemon came earlier than this series.
Its hard to even explain how into MR2 I was as a kid.
>the shit you had to do to unlock certain races
>mixin and matching monster races to make powerful monsters
>having a notebook full of catalog'd cds and what monster they unlocked to create my own monster recipes.
>said notebook filled with stats of all AI monsters in tournaments from rank D-A.
There will never be anything else like it.
>trillions and trillions of barcodes
>scan them
>you get a variation of 5 monsters and 2 palettes
wow, you really saved the fucking game
>not having it so you have to open exes to get a monster
see, i'm smarter and more innovative than you are.
But what if there were 3 pallets and 6 monsters? HAH got you now series saved, Also i would totally download and open virus exes for rare monster types.
This might be embarrassing but I've followed this series until its demise. I have plenty to share.
After watching 70+ episodes of this shit, only Season 2 is worth it. Tiger, Mochi, and Durahan are A+ material and that's saying a lot because it wasn't that much better. Skip Season 1 entirely. Season 2 is a tournament arc so..
There used to be an Android game that had all the variants on it, but I don't think you can find it anymore. Simple, but I'm sure it was scanning barcodes like mentioned. Not enough people playing it though. I don't even have too good a memory of it, but it existed at one point.
>go to an extremely religious school
>school is talking about this game and the monster by OP
>school said it should be banned because one monster is promoting sexual licking especially in that anime/cartoon
>they gave prints that parents need to sign so they know their message is getting through
>just realize now that people in that school sees sex in everything
that fucking school really fucked me up
>mfw finally get a dragon monster and it sucks
I used phoenix mons most of the time. Their stats were more balanced than shit ass dragons
To this day, I still don't know which mon is God tier and which one is shit
revival idea:
mobile game. go outside and take a picture - get a disc. monster determined from mixture of color data and geolocation tag. shrine can only unlock so many discs per day, and you have to earn the right to unlock advanced monsters through tournaments
shrine and tournament can be accessed anywhere. going out and walking acts as basic training, and special locations tagged for advanced training. enough steps in a week unlocks errantry mode for even more exp while walking, as well as random challenges
can battle other ranchers you come across, or trade
>play original game on playstation
>only ever made it to year 2
>had one of those massive books with all guides for games
>monster rancher section showed all this other random stuff that I never ever saw in game
I still don't know if that even exists because I never made it that far or if the guide was spouting random bullshit it copied from some geocities or angelfire website
the ds game was pretty good
I played by the rule of cool. Always took the golems and their variants even if other monsters were better.
>What ever happened to the Monster Rancher series?
Evo sucked and bombed. Their attempts at online MMOs (both of them) turned out terrible. The DS games just didn't seem to have the same charm to them. The mobile attempts, rather than trying to make an actual MR game with some method of monster generation, was just a generic gacha mobile title with the Monster Rancher characters slapped onto it.
Arguably, the biggest problem is that they abandoned the focus on monster "personalities" after MR2 and never tried going back to it in later games, so the series just faded to obscurity.
This is probably trickier than you might imagine. Not just implementing a scanner, but making sure that everything the game is on could use it and that it gave an interesting spread of monsters. How many phones or game systems can you think of which have a barcode scanner build into them?
>Replay it last year
>Catalog all my cds on a txt file
>MR thread shows up
>Want to replay it
>Lost my txt file
Too much work.
Monster Rancher makes me feel dumb
I'm pretty sure I'm not dumb but maybe I'm wrong because for the life of me I cannot figure out Monster Rancher 2 for the GBA
just pick a random one each time no need to min max
The only memories I have of this series is MR2 when my first monster died.
I cried so so hard. My mom didn't want to continue playing it if it was going to affect me that badly.
>Not just implementing a scanner
It's easy. The "spread" can be mitigated by applying rng based of location, time and other factors.
>Monster Rancher
It died. It was the poorman's Digimon. I've been rewatching the series and it's worse than I could ever remember.
>How many phones or game systems can you think of which have a barcode scanner build into them?
Um, all modern phones and the 3ds can read QR codes. I'm pretty they just use the camera and it would be easy to program into a game.
If you got a PS3 that can read PS2 games, you can get monsters from blu-rays in Monster Rancher 3
any system with a camera which is most of them
the designs were way too over the place. Like every monster came from different games instead of them just looking weird. Prob the first game to make clones acceptable tho.
Arrowheads were cooler. My favorite was Arrowhead/Golem, so we're bros.
I had a qt little blue clown looking monster, then she died and I stopped playing.
>To this day, I still don't know which mon is God tier and which one is shit
Depends on the game, depends on how the stats worked. It also depends on what you consider to be "God tier". I mean, dragons were certainly powerful and had great stat boosts, but in MR1 the Plant could wreck the fuck out of everything thanks to how Guts drain worked.
It also depends on your raising style. In general, you'll be far better with a monster you can raise well rather than an otherwise powerful monster type you aren't compatible with. Although that depends on how much you want to change your style.
Any sort of meaningful revival is required to have some method of generating money for the company. Otherwise, it won't get made and won't stay available. I mean, sure, a QR Code reader that randomly generates a monster, and local battles/online tournaments would sound great. But if there's no way to generate money, then the online tournaments will just shut down.
Monster Rancher Go when?
not enough pixie breeding ITT
>Letting Niantic touch the franchise with their filthy Jew hands
Please no
Me too, my favorites were any monster with metalner as secondary, they got Metalner god-tier gut regen and they looks pretty cool.
im 100% surprised monster rancher hasnt been revised as mobile garbage. take a picture to generate a monster, make training take real time with the ability to pay to speed it up, keep fighting, tournaments, and expeditions the same. add in some local multiplayer. shits guarranteed to print money. dunno if youd keep monsters getting old and dying though.
god tier would have been the monster with the highest guts regen, more guts = fast attack. Since stats could be made up in multiple lifespans by combining eventually any monster can be 999 in all stats, but guts regen is the only thing that was completely dependant on what species you raised. In MR2 Metalner was the big dick nigga because of this.
Pixie/Plant was also very strong by having good moves, good stats, good lifespan and high guts regen in a single monster.
>Any sort of meaningful revival is required to have some method of generating money for the company
Charge for:
Extra disc-carrying capacity
Extra shrine unlocks per day
Faster heals when defeated in battle
Items that temporarily boost monster stats
Customizations for your ranch
Customizations for your avatar
"Go" is a pretty popular suffix for phone games, it isn't a niantic exclusive thing.
>Mobile
Is the serious popular in Japan?
this almost made me cry. thank you user, for taking me back for just a second.
60% of kids are playing portable games exclusively.
...
How a bout 1 month monster lifespan, and can increase it with money, or just simply having better breeds.
I mean normies won't like to have their favorite monster to die, so they will pay to keep them alive.
I meant to quote more than just mobile. Though the popularity of the series doesn't even seen strong enough to make mobile games.
>he doesn't know
Do people fuck their Pixies in the Monster Rancher Universe?
Oh shit nigga I played this game
I had a rabbit I wanted to fuck
square enix is like 90% mobile gaming 10% final fantasy now. they shit out a new mobage every month compared to a decade for ff15.
So am I the only one who think that the franchise is way superior than Pokeyman? I mean, the way to acquire a monster through CDs was pretty damn creative. The battle system too feels more engaging, with mons moving forward and back, it gives the feel of looking at a cockfighting with giant monsters. Pokemon still uses old school turn based battle with almost static mons and I just find it pretty boring.
>train one monster hardcore in just speed/power
>don't get many moves
>go into every tournament and RNG slam kiddos
>my dinosaur is my life
>get to those high rank tournaments
>golem
>pshh nothing personnel kid...
>he clap crits me for 999
>dino goes to hospital for it's injuries
>dies
see my response
>tfw it died in 2014
It's not fair
no that would be stupid design. They obviously don't have vaginas or any good holes. They evolved to have sexy bodies to attract males but letting them get raped would have caused them to die out. Their tongues are like cats so you can't try that either.
This was my favorite game in the series
What about in the butt?
But they poop from there
Nostalgia'd haaaard.
they don't poop
it's like that trap from saw. Things can leave one way easily but if something is inserted or applies force in the opposite direction you are actually applying force on blades. Like chinese finger trap.
Watch the german anime opening it's much better
I don't know what the context of this was but i got this image while looking for pictures of monster rancher pixies.
Monster Rancher Battle Card Episode II was more interesting. More monster varieties and more cards in general gave you a lot more options. It didn't have the dungeons but I found those to be quite repetitive after awhile. The interesting fights in the weekly tournaments (Episode II was laid out like a standard MR title) were much more rewarding to play through and beat.
Plus, you could scan CDs for cards in Episode II.
God that is so much more comfy and chill than the shit american version.
she was being mindcontrolled and was going to kill him not rape him
Monster Rancher was the shit
Watching your little monster becoming a champion was sweet as fuck.
Of course, than they fucked the game by adding multiple monsters, and quests and other secondary bullshit instead of just further developing the training / raising / tournament gameplay
All this Monster rancher fags crying over their dead franchise.
But there are no Monster Racers fans nowhere, literally nowhere, I'm the only one on Sup Forums, no one will cry for monster racers, such a hidden and obscure franchise with cool ideas that will never spawn another sequel.
At least you have several games, I only have one that is on English the rest are in moonrunes and I can't read moonrunes.
>tfw no PC Monster Rancher where you upload images to generate monsters
>You will never see what kind of monsters your favorite doujin cumshot pages are
Truly, this is the worst time line.
Is there any good monster raising game for the PS4?
The issue was already fixed by Kojima's B team. Scan a wireless access point = get soldier/monster in this case.
They should reboot the whole thing. Get a god tier team of artists and make a hardcore Pokemon. Mobile/Vita/Switch/3ds. Once you caught the monster over wifi you can bring them home to the console version.
The newest Digimon games.
Cyber Sleuth is Pokemon style, just mix and match shit until you have the team you want. The other Digimon is Digimon World style, where you have to take care of your Digimon and they eventually die.
Was this the one which required the DSi camera just to generate the monsters, and so required a DSi to even play?
And Fossil Fighters is that for me. I really do like the first two games, lots of fun just digging, cleaning, piecing together dinos, and the battles are fairly good as well. Shame about that third game.
>Played the shit out of Monster Rancher when I was young
>Ended up getting a giant phoenix somehow
>Best monster by far, kicked ass, won battles, treated really well.
>It got too old and went off to die.
>Never won the big tournament
>Never had a monster as good
>Quit playing soon after instead of starting over.
I'll never end up being a pokemon master
>Fossil fighters
ma negro
No, it was a side scroller racing game, you can breed any monster to make the ultimate racing machine, the best stats, the best skills, the best terrain advantages, change it's color and fucking outspeed everything.
I'm surprised nobody ever tried the indie spiritual sequel thing with monster rancher ala star dew valley. I would love a comfy monster raising game with online.
You could generate them with files or with drawing runes like the ds one.
You guys want a great game that never had a sequel. Played like monster rancher but the monsters evolved and had a very rare chance of evolving into an immortal variant for each type ehich you could savescum to get.
...
...
I vaguely remember a tissue box monster.
...
>tfw I was "that kid" who collected Monster Rancher toys instead of Pokemon toys
I regret nothing I have more monsters if you want any more pics
BRAAAAAAAP
