About to start this up on my Zelda playthrough.
I enjoyed the first game, though the cryptic shit was frustrating. Combat was my favorite part.
What should I expect?

more criptic shit. lots more criptic shit
This and dying a lot to the bullshit combat
Prepare to gitgud
Are you gonna make threads throughout your journey? Are you playing every game in the series? I would keep up with that. If you wanna namefag, that could be fun.
you can expect to get your ass kicked until you git gud
I wonder if those cryptic hints were meant to be cryptic or if it was questionable translation.
Have fun finding dungeon entrances hidden behind destructible points game gives no hints about.
A mostly fair game with a couple of areas that are hard to find that hinder progress with the most annoying trek to a final dungeon ever. Also, invisible pits. Also if you like to grind in dungeons they are sealed up if you loot their treasure and beat their boss.
It must have been the hot new thing that year
Dragon Quest 2 is also insane with the cryptic shit
Dragon warrior 2s faults lie squarely in the exp requirements for the princess to the point that she's always 10 levels below everyone else. and the cave before the final dungeon is pure hell.
like that one bush you had to burn in the first zelda to find a dungeon? if OP already went through that then he won't mind this
Yes, I am. May adopt a trip or something for these posts only.
Neat, I'll keep my eye out. Do you have a favourite dungeon from the first game? Favourite boss, anything like that? Post screenshots while you play?
You'll get an ambiguously named spell that didn't make it through the translating machine and wonder what the fucking point of it is. I think that's the most cryptic point in the game after you get used to the cave maze. Finding the final boss is also a bitch. cheers
I cant deal with this gameĀ“s combat, its just not fun even if I got gud.
Cool, I hope you play the Four Swords games too. Check on Sup Forums if you don't have anyone that would want to play locally.
just wanted to say i'd be interested in this
I didn't take screencaps for LoZ1. Favorite dungeon is probably level 5, which was also the first time I got legit stuck. Level 6 also felt badass because I got to whip out the bow and go to town on the spider-eye boss.
Death Mountain was a shit dungeon though, and the Ganon boss was a joke.
This has been my primary concern. Is there some way to play that online?
Get ready for final bosses to be a joke, unfortunately. The final two bosses of TAoL however are pretty challenging unless you use a well-known exploit for the final boss.
Did you have a bad time with the blue wizzrobes?
Its the enemy that makes me not replay it
Four Swords was released on the DSi (and subsequently 3DS) as "Four Swords Anniversary" with online support. Just need to share friend code when you get around to that one. Four Swords Adventures doesn't have any multiplayer but can be played single-player without any issue. Tri Force Heroes has native online.
>Four Swords Adventures doesn't have any multiplayer
i meant ONLINE multiplayer
>the Ganon boss was a joke.
Thats a Zelda tradition, get used to it.
there's something about that title screen that makes me cum every time i load up the game so watch out for that
I never really thought about it but just about every Zelda title screen is fantastic.
Aside from the first and the latest.
2d Dark Souls.
I really liked the alttp fight.
No, the orange ones actually gave me more trouble, if only because they (seem to) disappear at a more rapid pace.
Alas, they took it down from estore. Would the friend code thing still work with a homebrew DS?
It's fun but it's not difficult. Your only real challenge is falling off the edge.
OP I would recommend not taking any fairies with you into the final boss. It'll be more fun that way. I know "making your own difficulty" is a meme but it's almost necessary for some of these games. That being said, you can't carry fairies in TAoL anyway.
Have you played any Zelda games before this endeavor?
I'm not sure about whether homebrewing it will work but I think it will. Anyone else know for sure?
No, I have not.
I've adopted a trip to discuss these matters (and only these matters) since people seemed interested in regular updates.
Colour me excited. Are you playing TAoL now or have you not started yet?
Wait why are people fellating the OP
Did he make a previous thread that was great or something
>nu-Sup Forums is so casual they can't appreciate the classics
Fuck you people, seriously. Where the fuck do the oldfags post now? I need to go wherever that is, instead of this rancid piece of shit you faggots call a board.
...
Personally it's probably because I come from Sup Forums and enjoy a good storytime. This is pretty much just a big Zelda storytime.
A good game
Watch out for death mountain, its a pretty big difficulty spike
After that it mellows out until the last palace
>Personally it's probably because I come from Sup Forums and enjoy a good storytime. This is pretty much just a big Zelda storytime.
>Comes from Sup Forumsmblr
>Appreciates threads that are glorified blogposts
Yeah how about you go back to Sup Forums, buddy.
Haven't started yet. I plan on it here in a bit and when I make progress I'll make a thread.
I am reading the official manuals to these things, and the story to Zelda II has me intrigued, not that I'm expecting much to come out of it.
The sleeping Zelda is a different one from the Zelda of the first game some people are still confused about that
Yeah, the manual made it out to be a generational thing, which is weird - you'd expect the original (that is, from tLoZ 1) Zelda to show up at some point, but I guess they figured that would make it too confusing.
Plus, it's a nice little entryway to the idea of there being multiple Links and Zelda, and Impas, etc. which seems to be a prevailing idea of the Zelda myth.
Don't get too hung-up on the stories. A few of the games actually do real well with story but not all of them.
The first is amazing, what are you talking about
but yes breath of the wild's is garbage
The first is fine, but after the second, it's a pretty big difference.
>Get hit
>Lose ability to do ranged attacks and have to trek back to that one village to heal up because the sword has no reach at all on its own
Combat in a nutshell
>What should I expect?
Zelda II emphasizes action and exploration over solving puzzles or navigating labyrinths.
If you're good at games like Contra or Ghosts 'n Goblins, Zelda II's combat should feel comfortable. Otherwise, it's going to seem Dark Souls hard. But since Zelda II technically uses RPG mechanics, there's nothing stopping you from level grinding early on to survive.
you can't beat anyone without the ranged attack?
holy shit just never play a NES game again because you fucking suck at video games
A pretty screwed up difficulty curve but an otherwise enjoyable game.
Confession time:
Zelda 2 used to be my favourite zelda, followed by zelda 1 and lttp.
I hated all the 3D zeldas.
now botw is my favourite zelda
>more criptic shit. lots more criptic shit
There's nothing cryptic about the game. I beat it when I was a kid. The villagers do in fact tell you every essential thing you need to know. They even hint at the locations of optional hidden items like heart containers.
Dark Souls-level difficulty. Though you won't realize just how fucked you are until you get to the first palace.
>Dragon warrior 2s faults lie squarely in the exp requirements for the princess to the point that she's always 10 levels below everyone else
Your allies aren't under-leveled, their levels just aren't proportionate to that of the hero. They can't even reach the same maximum level. It's an arbitrary number, because their stats still scale up in a manner that's balanced against the hero's higher level. More likely, you just aren't using the princess the way you're supposed to.
The ranged attack sucks dick and cant even touch like 80% of the game's enemies. Quit bitching and learn how to Downthrust
>You'll get an ambiguously named spell that didn't make it through the translating machine and wonder what the fucking point of it is
The Japanese version used English names in its spell list. There was nothing to translate. I think the only difference was that Japan's "REFLEX" spell got renamed to "REFLECT" overseas.
>it's an underage faggots pretend to like garbage game for oldschool cred episode
all the Zelda games are garbage, it's the most worthless series on the face of the earth and the games only sale out of nostalgia value and meme cred, I've played them all in the search for a good game, even bought a Wii for TP, and nothing was found, just formulaic repetitive bullshit that's the same shit if you've played one before.
>It's a "guy shits on popular game series for cool guy points on a Venetian oragami board" post
I've read through thousands of these shitty posts looking for even the slightest semblance of intellect and have found nothing but formulaic retardation. Read one post you've read them all it's all the same shit
>Zelda
>popular
it doesn't even sell that well, it sells like shit in Japan and SS and TP sold like shit compared to the Wii owner base.
expect an ugly, clunky disappointing waste of time.
>Being dense on purpose
>hurr durr Portal is popular because of le cake is le lie garbage
gas yourself dumb fucking shit
>Game isn't popular even though people all over the globe recognize the characters and symbols
>Hurr it's popular so it's shit
You can stop now child.
I beat this game using a gamecube control pad. get to my level
It sells better than everything that isn't CoD and FIFA. Even the garbage games do well. Shitpost elsewhere.
Harsh difficulty curve, some cryptic shit in later areas.
Explore a lot for extra heart containers, spells, sword techniques, and MP boosts.
>like that one bush you had to burn in the first zelda to find a dungeon?
>"that bush/tree is positioned in a funny way"
>came back later with the candle since it was obvious that it was meant to be destroyed
>"nice probably it's a sho-"
>level 8 while i had just beaten the third one
you didn't address a single point of my post
I wish you do die painfully and in public
jesus christ shut the fuck up
Japan is a tiny market that is generally irrelevant unless a game was made for less than 12M dollar and stands to make back cost there and there alone and the wii had a userbase comprised of geriatrics and soccermoms doing yoga and still had an attach rate of 8.6 games per console, outselling every other console that generation.
Happy now?
explain MonHun then, retard
Spergs gonna sperg on the system that lets you sperg out. It's autism and teamwork: the game.
