Oh fuck 3 more months. Seriously why can't they release in May?

I'm been wanting this for a long time

Why can't it crawl back into the pit it came from?

>Action RPG
>Valkyrie
>kinda steampunk

what's to hate?

It might be a good game, but will always be a bad Valkyria Chronicles game.

>make an original series
>sales are underwhelming
>lower costs by making the sequels japan only and on a handheld
>sales stay underwhelming
>port first game to PC
>sales are surprisingly good
>tease HD versions of the handheld games for PC and modern consoles
>but first release valkyria revolution, a spin-off nobody wants
>this will bomb
>the series will be put in hiatus
>HD remasters of the handheld games never ever

>decentlypopular strategy game series, could have been even more popular if they had bothered to advertise it in the slightest
>derailed by shitty action RPG spin offs
It's Shining all over again.

>Action RPG
Shallow Combat
>Valkyrie
Loosely inspired for the name brand recognition
>kinda steampunk
Literally the worst genre

>we'll never get to play a Valkyria game with a Jagged Alliance or X-Com style campaign
It hurts.

The game is fucking terrible. It's an awful action RPG and it's got nothing in common with the IP it's stolen.

>sales are underwhelming
I thought the first game did reasonably well?

Retarded Sup Forums users don't like a game because MUH PERFECT PURE SERIESSSSS

Why pretend to be interested in a generic ARPG that has nothing in common with the series it claims to be part of? Valkyria fans have about as much reason to be kind to this game as Metroid fans had to be kind to Federation Force. And this game actually looks much worse than Federation Force.

why do you want VC remastered AGAIN? the game looks good. No amount of high textures will make it look much better.

The steam port is ok and the PS4 is decent. Play the game you graphics redditor.

Also: Valkyria Revolution is a SPIN-OFF

First things first: Valkyria Revolution is not a sequel to the Valkyria Chronicles series. “Spinoff” would be the right word.

This is weak baiting. The game is confirmed fucking terrible in Japan and most of us have tried it.

Did well in the West, underperformed in Japan. So they decided to try to appeal more to Japs with a shitty school setting and a handheld release. It worked, it improved sales in Japan, but it tanked sales in the west so hard that they didn't even bother to localize 3.

Okay, so its a spinoff of a series that hasn't seen a mainline entry in years. And it looks like utter garbage.

Why exactly should anyone be interested in this piece of shit?

>has nothing in common with the series
It does.
>Valkyria Revolution = Federation Force
ok why do you have to behave like that? are you obsessed with Valkyria Chronicles? do you masturbate to it daily?

Because japanese people don't like action rpgs specially with dynamic combat. They prefer autistic turn-based.

The only reason you call it shit is because you didn't receive a sequel. If this game was released in the same year or 12 months after a sequel you would praise it.
Mod your PSP and play II and III.

>first game is great
>second is okay
>third doesn't get localized because of piracy
>game gets remastered on steam
>massive success, amazing port
>gets another remaster on ps4
>moderate success, decent port
>company announces spin-off game
>unanimously agreed to be complete shit
>going to tank
>series dies for good

why is sega so dumb

>Because japanese people don't like action rpgs specially with dynamic combat.
They love musou though, that's the whole idea behind this game. But whoever made it can't even make a bad musou because they made something that makes the PS2 musou games look good in the modern era.

>why do you have to behave like that? are you obsessed with Valkyria Chronicles? do you masturbate to it daily?
What. I like the series. I have no interest in this shitty looking spinoff and it doing well probably would do nothing but guarantee we'll never see another actual entry.

Also the idea that Japs hate ARPGs is fucking hilarious, ever heard of a little series called Monster Hunter?

Can you please stop shilling for trash.

This game isn't even good, why are you so excited?

I certainly wouldn't praise it, since it looks like shit, but you're right that I wouldn't be as aggravated by it if an actual entry in the series were coming out as well.

>lets make it appeal more to the demographic that didn't liked it and alienate the demographic that already liked it

why

I thought everyone already knew that this game was a piece of shit.

You guys trashed the II it didn't sell well and they even bothered to localize the third. Now you are trashing the spin-off and we'll never see the fourth entry being made.

xenophobia

steampunk is shit though user

Bercause Sega are utterly retarded. Also it may have been more successful in the west than it otherwise would have been simply because the PS3's library was pretty much nonexistent back then. Valkyria Chronicles was basically the only worthwhile game on the console for years.

It's going to flop, hard.

>Now you are trashing the spin-off and we'll never see the fourth entry being made.
Good, if this is how they're going to treat the series then I'd rather stick with 1 and maybe 3 depending on who you ask being the only good ones.
Fuck off Sega, I'm not buying your shitty spin off turd.

I actually praised 2 as did most of the critics
metacritic.com/game/psp/valkyria-chronicles-ii

It performed poorly in the west strictly because of piracy. If it released on PS3 it would have also enjoyed decent success.

Even Sega has acknowledged that this spin-off is bad.

Because almost everyone working at Sega is fucking retarded.

>lets buy the shitty game we don't want to encourage them to make things we do want
Yeah, because that's worked so well in the past. Two was a huge disappointment but it had merits, it just got screwed over by the fact that everyone in the west with a PSP pirated everything they could because it was a demonstrably better experience than dogshit UMDs.

>It performed poorly in the west strictly because of piracy.
I'm going to need all the citations for this assertion.

>sales are underwhelming

It sold well enough to get two sequels. Western sales were dismal.

>port first game to PC
>sales are surprisingly good

Pfft. The PC version sold less than the original console version for a FRACTION of the cost. The PC version was just a drop in a bucket.

>tease HD versions of the handheld games for PC and modern consoles

They have never said this, and Sega would NEVER actually support PC. If anything they'd be for the Vita, since muh nihojin consoru muh nihongo hanaa bullshit that all Japanese companies are bound by blood to do.

So which action RPG would you rather have? another Sword Art Online? a sequel to Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization?

I think that poster wanted 2 and 3 remade to look like the first game

What's the last screenshot with, some sort of fix like DSfix?
Have it installed was planning to play this week.

>no PC

THANKS
FUCKING
SEGA

REMEMBER 3 YEARS AGO? WHEN SEGA SAID THEY WERE GOING TO START TO PORT GAMES TO PC? AND VC WAS THE FIRST OUT OF MANY TO COME?
YEAH, FUCK YO USEGA

>The PC version sold less than the original console version for a FRACTION of the cost
PC version was released a decade after the game was hot with next to no marketing.

This is a Valkyria Chronicles thread. People want an SRPG, not an ARPG. The only ARPG I'm interested in currently is Ys 8.

>we'll never see the fourth entry being made.

Somehow I have no faith in them not making a sequel to Azure Revolution instead if it sells well.

I shit you not, but japanese gamers didnt like the first game because it was too grim and warlike to them. Thats why they made the second one a highschool bullshit.

Believe what you want but there's a reason Japan has hundreds of unlocalized PSP games.

What?

VC isn't broken but this image is still kind of relevant if you want to easily downsample windowed mode. I'll post a mod list in a minute too.

I remember that. Sega is never going to port games to PC. And I can't blame them because all their PC games sold badly.

They made more from the PC version than the PS3 version.

The PS4 version made by far the least too.

Dark souls was similar with it being more popular in the west right?

Thank god someone in From's marketing department isn't a fucking moron

>it was too grim and warlike to them
nigga are you serious
That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard

God how autistic, glad pcfags got 1 change 99% will never notice.

While piracy is mostly harmless on PC. On the PSP it was a death sentence. You had two options to buy things on the PSP, PSN and UMDs. UMDs were utter garbage, hurt battery life, hurt your hands, and lengthened load times. So the PSN would be the optimal choice. However, hacking your PSP gave you all kinds of great emulators and shit, which made it one of the best handhelds ever made. Unfortunately that would lock you out of the PSN.

Since almost everyone i nthe west was hacking their PSP since it was objectively superior to non-hacked PSPs, people simply stopped buying games because pirating them was easier and better.

Western sales were bad because it got released when the console was 699$ and it was not even marketed so people who had money for the console shrugged it off as another weeaboo trash.

Sega makes most of their revenue from PC.

100% it will get ported, but it's still a terrible game.

This and the PSP PSN store hardly had any games in it that werent indie or Final fantasy.

He is correct. It isn't a singular instance either. Papa Nier was met with "I wouldn't want to play as an ugly old man".

Those news were a lot newer than three years ago. And the first of the console scraps ports was 2013's Typing of the Dead. Then 2014's VC, then 2015's Sonic Lost World. 2016 didn't see a port, in fact that year was when Sega was going on about "muh port begging" and how John Hardin constantly ridiculed PC gamers. Let's not forget their stint of "Let's put a badge for Yakuza Zero that IMPLIES it's also on PC, but not make it for PC", either.

>PC games sold badly

Yeah, that's what happens when you give them games they didn't ask for.

>blah blah revenue

Why are they first and foremost a console developer?

How about not an action RPG?
If I want a good action RPG, I'll play Soulsborne or Nier: A.

From's marketing may not be retarded but lord knows the developers are based on how shitty everything became after DS1. I would have prefered the series get exiled to handhelds then I wouldn't have to hear people act like its some sort of incredible modern classic.

Don't most nip game sells more in the west?

Probably the reason Neverland died too. RF3 was pirated by so many people that it's not even right. Feels bad man.

>Why are they first and foremost a console developer?
They aren't.

>Sega makes most of their revenue from PC.
how come?

Brunhilde and the music are the only good things about this game

>Why are they first and foremost a console developer?

They are first and foremost a major PC publisher that owns some of the best pc studios.

>they aren't

Ah yes, how based is Sega for making this masterpiece for PC.

Spin Off or not, it's pretty clear we are being given an ultimatum, and not an option. Unlike the other titles, this one seem to have a relatively high production value, all star voice cast, popular mangaka artwork, fully orchestrated soundtrack by Chrono Trigger composer, fully animated custcenes rather than those VN style ones from the other gamesf, and if I'm correct from what I saw in the screenshots, a hubworld to run around and explore instead of a menu to select places.

Shit, this is probably the most expensive Valkyria game, yet it had and is having the worst reception of any game in the, being the worst selling game of the franchise in Japan.

Or what about this one, another classic Sega game made for PC?

>make bad games
>gets bad reception
???

if they aren't going to bother making good games I'd rather they not make any at all.

the first and third are widely regarded to be the best in the series (in sales and acclaim), they have all the information they need to make another good one. they are just being retards

Later on the PSP PSN filled out but the damage was already done. The DS had a similar problem with niche games getting pirated. The Switch may run into a similar issue if Nintendo is unlucky but they'll probably never fall as low as the PSP since carts are actually decent and not utter trash like UMDs..

>Also: Valkyria Revolution is a SPIN-OFF
And its a SHITTY SPIN-OFF

They made good business decisions.

>The game debuted at number 1 on the Japan software chart in its first week of release. The PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4 version sold 146,000 units and 90,000 sales respectively.
Wow!

Since Sega owns Atlus, it was so nice of them to make Atlus publish this gem for PC.

I swear the japs have even worse taste then the west sometimes
Every time I look at a popularity poll for some jap game the results almost always make me mad.

There's more people in the west so they usually sell more copies here. I suppose it's not as profitable due to localizations costs + shipping and all that shit

And now I remembered they bought Amplitude. I fear for the future.

Sega makes most of their money on PC! They also are PC developers, too! How nice of Sega to make the upcoming Yakuza 6 for PC as well!

I would assume as much.

>this sperg
2 absolutely shitty games and a good JRPG doesn't change the fact Sega makes over twice as much money from Steam as they do from Playstation.

>They are first and foremost a major PC publisher

Again; why are all their games not on PC?

>MUH NICHE!

If, IF, they were the "Major PC Publisher" you made them out to be, then their niche status wouldn't stop them at all. In fact, even more niche shit found its way to PC. Sega either just doesn't give a fuck, or PC isn't all that profitable.

Man I don't care about the price I'd buy Miku on Steam first day and give 100 copies to you niggers on Sup Forums.

Because no one wants this spin off, not only it looks like shit but it also looks like boring as fuck, the gameplay previews didn't help either.

>but first release valkyria revolution, a spin-off nobody wants
>this will bomb
>the series will be put in hiatus
>HD remasters of the handheld games never ever

This will happen and It will be another disappointment in my life. Why videogames always break my heart.

>Sega makes over twice as much money from Steam as they do from Playstation

In that case, wouldn't it make more sense for them to release their games on PC in addition to the PS4?

The same reason more of their games on PC than on console.

And this reason is that they are retarded. Refer to the game this thread was made about. If all of their games were multiplatform they would make more money. That goes for almost every dev.

We have to treat Sega Japan as a separate company from Sega USA despite them being the same company

>take a strategy game
>make a spinoff that looks like a shitty knockoff of modern Final Fantasy/Tales Of games
>west AND east agree that it looks like a bad action game and alienates the original strategy gamer audience
>SEGA acts surprised when it does bad

I'll laugh my ass off if they remastered or ported both 2 and 3.

But put it on the now cracked Vita. It seems like something they would do.

Fuck, this dude's got it right.
Sega Japan is eternally butthurt that a filthy baka gaijin made an irrelevant arcade game developer into a worldwide superpower. They were so butthurt, that Sega Japan fired him and replaced him with Bernie Stolar, who destroyed all the work Kalinske did.

This looks like pure shit taste incarnate though. You must be an early high school weeb.

What is the point of keeping a series alive if only the first game is good. Might as well let it die.

Football Manager, Total War, Company of Heroes, Dawn of War

>release it on the cracked Vita
>release it on the completely dead Xbone
>don't release it on PC, the platform where it would most likely sell the most due to the neogaf crowd who liked the first game's PC port

They're fucking geniuses.

well, i have a vita so it wont be a loss for me.
But i want it as a vita version with improved graphics and gameplay changes maybe, not simply the psp version playable on the vita.

Check their list of franchises, they have some of the most popular shit on PC.
Football manager alone is a great milking cow that permanently tops steam charts and it's on yearly release schedule.
This shit is madden of PC.
Then they got multitude of strategy developers with some very big franchises.

>They made good business decisions
they sure as hell didn't, their games were region locked pretty hard, for the first year or so after the VC port came out I couldn't buy it because it's region locked on Steam, same for their other games such as Total War, despite the fact that I can pick up a licensed physical copy with a Steam code in the city I'm in
also stuff like PSO2 never coming to the west etc etc

Please tell me I'm retarded and you can change the 3 attacks with 1 button press combat?

Right now I just roll and it sometimes cancels the third attack

This actual describes all of Japan, not just Sega. Pic related.

Pic very much related.

It'll probably come to PC, they're just desperately trying to take advantage of double dippers since they know they're gonna have a hard time making their money back on this turd.

Atlus is like a separate company from Sega, all they do is take funds from them and slap the Sega logo where its needed and be done with it.

I was talking about their foothold in PC gaming. Other user outlined how retarded Sega Japan is. Just look how they've been sitting on Vanquish. That game would easily sell half a million copies if the port was decent like Valkyria Chronicles.

They already missed their window to sell Bayonetta because Cemu can almost emulate both of them.

That strategy can work but it won't in this case. The longer the game is out the more people will know how bad it is.

Double dipping, the rotary engine, and communism all have one thing in common. They work in theory, but fail in practice.

>but GTAV

The PC sales were TINY compared to the 7th gen console sales, and the 8th gen console sales were even smaller than that. The mainstream market doesn't invest in more than one console, let alone PCs.

It's undeniable that Football Manager makes them a shitton of money. It's huge all over the world except the States. I wish they'd port more of their stuff to PC since I hate using my PS4 but it is what it is, Sega of Japan doesn't understand that there's an audience for weeb shit on PC.

>Football manager 2017 has nearly 60k daily peak players despite having mostly negative reviews

What the fuck is with this whole franchise, i really dont get it and I'm pcfag for 20 years that plays spreadsheet simulators

At this point, Sega is literally just trolling PC gamers. Remember last year how Sega went on a huge crusade against port begging? You know, what Sega said they were going to do?

>hey boss, that PS3 port sold pretty well
>nice, maybe we can port more games
>hey, can you guys port (game)
>there is no demand for the game on PC
>I'd like it too
>no, fuck off

Depressingly, I suspect a large part of the audience for Shark Cards are on PC. I'm sure Rockstar made plenty of money on the GTAV PC port. It's consistently in the top sellers on steam all year round.

GTAV was garbage and I hate how successful it was.
