Shitty pc owner here
Been playing Nethack lately, I suck but it's a really cool game.
What are some other games that are easy to pickup and lightweight? Doesn't necessarily has to be a rogue-like

I think stuff like 80s and early 90s CRPGs are up your alley. I recommend Wizardry, Might & Magic, and Ultima. They're easy to pick up, but later shit gets crazy but you can have a lot of fun with them.
Great, thank you user.
Between those 3, do you have any particular recommendation to play first?
I recommend you play Might and Magic first. It's the easier of the three, and may help ease you into the world of 80s CRPGs.
Wikipedia says the first one was Might and Magic Book One: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum.
That one's the one right?
Yes. Also, beware of Wizardry.
i always have crawl with my. favourite dungeon crawler desu. i use a formicid fighter
i love bugs in fantasy settings
any games were i can play as bugs?
Sticking with Rogue-likes there is babbys first Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup or much better Brogue as easier to pickup and run with. There is also PosChengband if you want a crazy amount of options but less easy to just pickup.
also I would go with the Wizadry stuff but many of them will destroy your anus without mercy
Okay, one last stupid question.
The Might and Magic Book One it's the same as Heroes of Might and Magic I?
Sorry, I just don't want to be downloading wrong stuff
No. Heroes of Might and Magic is a strategy game in the same series.
King of Dragon Pass is a very fun old strategy game
Dungeon Master is a pretty good classic cRPG. It inspired a lot of clones, many of which are also good.
ADOM is better than Nethack.
duskers
Dungeons of Dredmor, it's a roguelike but much odder and easier. There are plenty of Steam Workshop items to add a lot of replayability and expirimentation.
Eldritch, low poly, actiony fun.
One Way Heroics, like a roguelike with a timelimit.
Cthulhu Saves the World, turn-based RPG.
I used to have a really crappy laptop, these were some of my favorites.
...
If you don't mind text based stuff grab mudlet or mushclient and get into some muds, there are still a huge amount of them going of all types.
Couple I still occasionally play are
>Alter Aeon
Kind of standard fantasy stuff, has a pretty good population, fairly forgiving when it comes to death and equipment and everything
>3scapes
Is a crazed mix of fantasy, sci-fi. and everything else wit hsome of the neatest guilds/classes I have seen. Harsh with gear and death pennalties can hurt . Another fairly populated game.
>Empire mud
Kind of fantasy mud meets survival and empire building. Interesting game but if you manage to get on at the same time as 10 other people it is a busy day.
Only ones I would really avoid are any by Iron Realms, not because they are bad because they are really good to start with, but because you hit a certain point and they are crazy bad pay to win and people spend thousands on that shit for some reason.
Never gets talked about but should. I guess because it isn't pretty and requires thinking but it is crazy fun
Made me interest, shill it to me?
Daggerfall
Civilization
Just search DoS games on Youtube and you'll find a shit ton of stuff your comp can run.
store.steampowered.com
One of my underrated favourites. Great OST too.
youtube.com
Pretty sure there's a free version
>easy to pick up
>nethack
Huh??
I mean, it's not exactly the most approachable game based on mechanics or UI.
Either way:
Risk of Rain
Hammerwatch
Terraria
Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2
You are a salvaging ship traveling the galaxy making loot from wrecks. everything is done from your computer using a command line to control a few drones you send into the wrecks with various bits of gear to power/fix/whatever in the wreck to find the good shit. Things will wreck your shit so you have to lure them away and lock them in rooms wit hno good shit in there.
Go to /vr/ and visit the HoMM thread for a link to all the Heroes and mainline Might and Magic games. All of them will run on your toaster.
>terraria
>low end PC
Memenux user here, how many of these games run on said OS?
Also, any recs for Linux in particular? Nethack is based because i can just run it from the terminal
i had a screenshot of a series of post where some guy described in detail how fucking bullshit wizardry was but can't find it anymore
SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition
It's on steam and it's very good, look it up.
Pretty much all these work flawlessly in Wine
Alright, thanks, I'll try out the Might and Magic ones
This is awesome user, thank you
