That's because the FGC are drones. They literally only care about street fighter. Rival Schools and other subsequent capcom fighters where forgotten because people didn't want to learn a new game.

Saying something is better without backing it up is even less of an argument. No one can explain why Rival Schools is good because no one here played it. If you were around that time you would know it was extremely average and no one played it.

Skullgirls, despite not being a nostalgic classic series or having iconic characters like Smash, somehow got a lot of support from people. For what it is, is a pretty big success. They literally had to make a game with the most frames of animation in any videogame (or just fighters I don't remember) and make the designs extremely quirky. And even that never got huge. The genre itself is just niche compared to others. Smash has the most popular vidya characters of all time and is the most accessible. Street Fighter has the nostalgia too, and is also accessible. Some newer games will come out and people praise them, but never actually play them. Just pretend to be into them to fit in with the snowflakes.
