What magic did Microsoft ever have? OG had some really good gems by solid devs but that didn't sell systems. Halo and online multiplayer was the biggest draw for Xbox, 360 increased that focus and came out earlier, at the perfect time for that era of CoD players, but now ps4 has the larger install base. That's basically what it comes down to.

Think of it like how Nintendo lucked out with the timing of the wii, right before smart phones became prevalent, only Nintendo actually has popular IPs to back that up.


I don't see Microsoft being anything but second for the time being, western AAA games are played on PC now more than ever even by normies, the ones who don't just play on ps4, which also has the weeb stuff, and Nintendo isn't quite competing but mat actually nestle itself as an extremely popular secondary party console for ps4/pc owners.

Nintendo doesn't need to sell itself. Being a smaller and more focused company makes financial failures a lot less disastrous. Xbone, windows 10 and windows phones all have way less of a userbase than Microsoft wants. Being that big means they can bleed tons of money. For the same reason Sony's other branches are doing awful and the ps3 had potential to destroy them. Switch could fail and Nintendo still wouldn't have to be bought out.
