I can't be the only one who loses interest after all this. I know a lot of these features have enhanced gaming experience but I don't know sometimes I can't be bothered with all this.

You said it. I do get bothered by unskippable logos on consoles too. On PC I just usually mod them out.

Wow, that's a really poignant observation there, OP!

>Insert game
>Day one 10GB patch install required
>shitty molasses rural bumfuck internet speed

>unskippable publisher logo
>unskippable dev logo
>unskippable nvidia logo
>unskippable legal mentions
>"Loading"
>you just spent a full minute watching logo and the game couldn't be arsed to load in the meantime
>"Do not turn off the computer while this icon is visible"
>"Press start"
>press start
>start menu opens
>go through a dozen menus to adjust brightness, create user, connect to online servers...
>eventually start the game
>"Loading"

It's like devs don't even play games these days.

I actually like unskippable logos

It gives me a moment to get ready and into the mindset. It 'transitions' me into the game

That's always been the standard and it's not that bad unless you're an inpatient child.

>unskippable intro
>autosave
>pointless splash screens
>"always been the standard"

I bet you're under 17.

i bet you prefer lower framerates too

>skippable dev logo
>skippable game intro video
>start game/load game
>loading without further ado
>load screen displays the area currently being loaded and reminds plot points or mission objectives

That was the standard.

>must install updates to play
Only if you're an x-babby or a cawadoody faggot that can't into single-player games.

>buy single player game
>the box just has a steam code inside

My age is not an argument. It became the standard as soon as those features (saving, auto saving, and loading) became available and were fundamental so that you don't have to restart from the beginning of every game you play or clip through the floor every 5 seconds.

Again, hardly an issue unless your an inpatient child.

>accepting that bullshit as an acceptable standard
user, you're a pathetic faggot, one day, someone will serve you a meal with shit in it
and you'll probably just lap it up.

Then

>order game
>disc comes 7days later
>mail it for return
>they send the wrong game
>boot cd up
>at 70% game crashes "DISK ERROR L-O-L"

now
>buy game instant delivery
>takes a few hours or a day to download
>play

Neck yourself nostalgia fag

>I have a short term memory

Funny how the update thing used to be an anti-pcbro joke, and now pcbros are the least annoyed by updates. Neither PS3 nor PS4 can dodge that bullet.

Yeah maybe in the fifth generation and prior but things have changed. Most logos and startups aren't even beyond 60 seconds now.

Tfw user gets blown out

Reading about logos made me think about vidya publishers. Why are they under so much more scrutiny than movie publishers? When you read about a film studio ruining some guy's film you don't immediately go "I'm never gonna watch movies by Universal again, they're evil"

>My age is not an argument.

You made it so user. Think twice next time you use the word "always".

Autosaves have also been around for a long time. Simply they weren't checkpoint based, more like mission or map based. And they didn't make saving such a big fucking deal they had to remind you everytime you started the game. And for someone that considers autosaving "fundamental", you're in a bad place to call me "impatient". Can't spare the time to open a menu to save? Get the spelling right at least.

And then you forgot the points of unskippable logos and delayed loading, but whatever.

It's hardly a standard either, many contemporary games still don't fall that low. It's become common, but even then it's still no justification, no one likes wasting time looking at the exact same shit everytime they start a game.

I just replace them with the shortest video in the game files. Like a few frames long loading screen, which is usually on loop.

>unskippable dev logo
>unskippable game intro video
>delete those files
>game won't start because it can't find those intro videos
FUCKKKK

>Developer logo is skippable.
>Publisher logo isn't.

Are there even any games that warn you about quitting during the icon that take that long to save? Usually it's like half a second, and most games are even long done writing the file while the animation still plays
>ME2 loading screen
>it's an animation of some made-up technical bullshit
>you have to watch it fully every time, making the load take 10 seconds instead of

I remember when installations were a legitimate complaint that console owners had. they just wanted to put the game in and play. because after all thats all consoles were for.

it seems they've almost completely become bastardized computers.

>no loading screen during gameplay
Fucking how?

Well retards keep buying and pushing for games with pointless open worlds and beautiful big setpieces, at some point installing the game becomes a must if you don't wanna have 20 minute loading screens

Roach magic

>Why are they under so much more scrutiny than movie publishers? When you read about a film studio ruining some guy's film you don't immediately go "I'm never gonna watch movies by Universal again, they're evil"
Movie nerds do. We're vidya nerds.

Still, there's also a matter of "proximity". Vidya devs play vidya, they're fans of vidya, and they've always been close to their players to some extent, a long time ago they literally went to LANs and shit, then it was internet forums, now it's more of a social network/convention thing. Movies are largely different, people just follow their ideas and don't care too much about the reception, it's the publisher's job to do that, and they have few links with fans, they're not on forums talking about movies, you don't run into them at the movies either. And whenever they do have links with fans, they're very distant, like wow it's a big movie star and shit that needs a dozen bodyguards. Meanwhile vidya devs are more humble, and you can run into Kojima at a McDonald's, or Molyneux at a bus stop.

So when a dev is fucked over by a publisher, well, you tap on Kojima's shoulder, and you hug Molyneux telling him everything's gonna be alright.

there are load screens when entering the actual 3D maps though, right? I haven't played the game in a long time but I seem to remember that
short loading screens, certainly, because of the low graphics quality, but still

Games generally finish saving before actually quitting, unless you're alt+f4ing the bitch or pulling the plug. And no one fucking does this, and if they do, they deserve to get shit for it.

>Start game
>Logo Splashscreen for GPU maker you don't have appears

No. No loading screen at all apart from the beginning. That loading screen is also fast af.

Just don't connect to the internet?

How else is it going to know who the master is? Sometimes you need to remind the machines who is in charge.

>Movie nerds do. We're vidya nerds.
That's a good point, I'm gonna have to ask some friends with varying degrees of normalfaggotry if they associate EA, Activision, or Ubisoft anything

Yes you are. For me it's
>Boot my pc
>Wait ten seconds
>Click on the game I wish to play
>The game starts

Stop being a moron

I bet you enjoy the films of Wes Anderson.

Just looked up a random LP of it, I guess you could call the 0.5 to 2 second delay between clicking the battle button and actually playing a load screen but that's just a technicality. That's indeed amazing
Gotta play this game again

I don't know how we made it in those primitive times

I can't even play on contemporary consoles, living in Australia on this Internet connection. Stuck on mobile broadband, which means those mandatory patches equate to never being able to play the game.
Thank fuck of fitgirl repacks, etc. on pc. Got a shitload of older games to play that in size along would be like one or two modern AAA games.

I usually skip those by tweaking the .ini.

Don't samefag.

The normies I know only recognize those names as the "maker" of the games. But they're unaware of the industry's dirty businesses, of studios being savagely bought, of games being butchered... they actually like their games, so why would they even hold any negative opinions about them?

nVidia can go fuck themselves with their cancerous physx/game just werks bullshit.

Ad a dev, i can confirm it just get forgotten.

>shoehorning console UI into pc game
truly the worst offender for me.

It's gotten to the point where I am ridiculously amazed if a game actually makes use of right click in its inventory or menu
