I remember playing this game as a kid, but only got like 3 hours in. Is it worth playing all the way through?

Absolutely. Squaresoft put out some of the best games on the PS1 and this is one of them.
Remake subcontracted to Supermassive in the Decima engine when?
Sorta if you can look past the combat they later refined for Vagrant Story.
Yes. Dont bother with 2 unless you love the old RE games.
That was my main issue. I went into it expecting Square's take on RE but the turn based combat system wasn't really my thing.
>one of the top 100 games of all time
>uhhh should I play it guys
Yes
give a remake
>tfw you hang out in the police station because of the comfy music
>want to replay the game
>get lost in the hospital and rage quit
Happened to me at least 4 times by now.
I didnt know it was so highly regarded. Does the story really take off or something?
Try 2 in that case.
Ask on /vr/. All y ou will get on Sup Forums is shitposting and silly opinions.
Naw story is pretty shit, I personally liked the Gun customisation and the boss fights
fun game.
The hospital was pretty straight forward. It's the museum that's a pain in the ass.
>The Cinematic RPG
>greatest hits
absolutely disgusting
Yeah, I definitely enjoyed it.
I wasn't a big fan of the 2nd game though.
I hated the 2nd game
I actually really enjoyed the 3rd game outside of the story.
What does this post even mean
>played Dino Crisis 1 and RE1 DC (not dua shock)
>loved
>playing RE2 Claire A and Dino Crisis 2
>loving it
>played a bit of Fear Effect 1
>neat graphics+backgrounds although the gameplay is a bit rage inducing, will continue after RE2 and DC2
>planning on going through SH1, RE3, PE1, PE2, FE2
Besides Galerians, am I missing some other games? Pls gib suggestions
I didn't like RE3 as much, but that's my personal taste, and I havn't played the Fear Effects
But every other game there is GOAT
RE2 is probably my favorite of that bunch
Somebody post a list of the best JRPG's on the PS1
Do you know if Parasite Eve games and Galerians have loads of cutscenes? I mostly play via USB but since ps2 usb is 1.1 CGIs stutters like than I have to burn in cd.
Murder by Tabata.....
black label or don't even physical
>Parasite Eve alot of cutscenes
Yeah there's a fair bit of them, I'd say at least 10 mins worth throughout the game
Who fucking cares...
Thanks mate, gonna burn this one then since I couldn't understand some stuff the characters were saying in Fear Effect when playing via usb
I youtubed it, 19 mins of cutscenes
But there's no dialog in them at all.
>fear effect
game actually looks kino
>the 3rd game was cancelled
god fucking dammit why can't we have good things and there is no way in hell you could ever remake the game without the original team, everything is lost.
I always hear 1 is great. Never played it, love the sequel though.
>Kino
I left Sup Forums for 6 months, and now I have no idea what that shit means
YYYYYAAAAAAMMMMMMMMAAAAAAATTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEE
>no dialog in them at all.
Nice, saved a cheap CD for some other game since some stutter without convo doesn't bother me. Again, thanks for the help man.
Resident Evil 3 for scary monster that cant die.
Fear Effect 2 because it is a great game and if you play it before FE1 you actually get more out of FE1.
Blood Omen: The Legacy of Kain, great adventure game like zelda but you are a vampire and its voiced by Simon Templeman whos voice is god like.
Clock Tower 1 and 2, if you want to run away from a serial killer.
In Cold Blood, the team that did Broken Sword made the game, its a puzzle action game.
SaGa Frontier 1, solid RPG with different characters and an open story, the game doesnt hold your hand.
Shaolin, you play a boy or girl monk and it has 6 stories depending on your style chosen, the evil story is awesome because you play a 6 year old shota/loli on their quest to conquer the world.
Koudelka, the prequal to Shadow Hearts, its a dungeon crawler with a fucked up story.
>tfw stuck at the very end of the game for 10 years
>finally realize I ran past the place you're supposed to stop at
>all this time I've been trying to juke the boss in that hallway
I was stuck like that for about a day. Didn't play all day but a few runs and they always failed. Then eventually I noticed the goddamn blinky light That shit should have been brighter and more obvious to get your attention.
>scary monster that cant die.
Waht do you mean? I played a bit of 3 when I was a kid so I don't remember this shit.
>Fear Effect 2 because it is a great game and if you play it before FE1 you actually get more out of FE1.
Thankfully I just reached disc 2, thinking I'm gonna go with 2 since its a prequel.
>Blood Omen
Amazing game. Played the pc version though but fuck if that ost, vampire powers and voice acting isn't so incredible. Had a fucking black and plan on playing Soul Reaver Dreamcast version someday
>Clock Tower 1 and 2
Is 1 a remake of the SNES? After watching Arino playing it I feel like doing that one first.
>Cold Blood
>SaGa Frontier 1
>Shaolin
>Koudelka
Awesome, added them to the list especially Koudelka which looks fucking interesting.
as you can see my backlog just got bigger and I'm not counting steam games, kek
One of my favorite ps1 games.
GOAT OST
Don't get meme'd into playing Koudelka, user.
Oh yeah, added Alone in the Dark A New Nightmare too.
Why? Whats wrong with it?
Its ok user build that list because there is like fuck all coming out.
Clock Tower 1 on the ps1 is actually Clock Tower 2 in the west.
The SNES Clock Tower is the original one, if you play the SNES one you can play as the heroine of that game in Clock Tower 1 on the ps1.
Clock Tower 2 on the ps1 is actually a side story I think in the same series, the story deals with a Japanese girl who suffers from D.I.D or a split personality and has to deal with a serial killer child.
Her response is run and hide, her other personality fights back and gives that little bitch the Hulk Hogan big boot and arm drops that bitch into hell.
If you have a favourite type of game I might be able to throw out a few more if you want.
It'a pretty bland, and its
battle system is kind of a mess. It has one of the dumbest bad endings ever too.
Not like he'd lose all that much if he did.
Shit's short.
SaGa Frontier can be a very long experience with a whole shitload of boredom thrown in because you will be going through the same enemies and areas a lot with different characters while gameplay itself doesn't change nearly enough. The game has some neat ideas but I don't rate it highly because of the repetition. Best played 1-2 characters at a time and then taking a longer break.
Parasite eve is my favorite game of all time. I fucking love that game
>Shaolin
Wew, thought me and my brother were the only people who even played it.
And by played I mean started as girl hungar, saw that she was looking for a wife and then put it down.
I remember watching an LP of this game, and the person doing it said that it was the game that inspired him to get his degree in Biology.
As the game went on (You all know full well what happens), his co-commentators kept saying with each new plot revelation "THIS is what made you get into Biology?!"
Yeah some of the stories worked better with certain sexes.
Though conquering the world as a loli by literally punching people in the dick with a style that is all about punching power was both funny and awesome.
Sup Forums meme they are forcing everywhere.
Remember that old meme about how a "movie" is better than a "flick" and a "film" is better than either, etc?
They just made up a word that means "best thing ever" to top all of them; and now in what is probably the fastest degeneration of language in history, it now refers to pretty much everything any individual person liked.
>I remember watching an LP of this game
faggot
The whole Clock Tower thing sounds interesting, is 3 worth it too despited being on the ps2?
>If you have a favourite type of game
Damn, that's actually a though question since I've been playing games from different genres and my taste changes from time to time. Like a few years ago I'd have hated games like SMT I/II/SH but now I freaking love them. So I'll accept any kind of suggestion because I don't like being stuck at only one genre.
Can't be worse than grinding tarot cards in Persona 2, right?
>Tarot cards in P2
That's the whole reason everyone hated those games, P2 would have been better than P3 if it had shuffle time at the end.
>They just made up a word that means "best thing ever" to top all of them
They didn't make it up. It's part of some obnoxious french film movement or something. They are being "ironic".
Nothing is worse than grinding tarot cards. Even abusing save states doesn't make it any less painful.
Clock Tower 3 has different killers since your character goes into different times.
The killers are monsters and they do a good job of painting them as monsters.
The first killer is a guy who was laid off his job and went crazy with a sledgehammer.
You are trying to free a young girl from being forced to play a piano for all eternity and you have to watch how she died.
You see the killer enter through her window, chase her around the room and then cave her head in with a sledgehammer as she falls out of the door.
He then chases you down and the best you can do is hide or throw holy water at him which forces him to stop for a moment.
The game does shark jump when you have to kill the souls of the enemies by shooting magic arrows at the enemies but the game sorta tries to explain this by saying your a soul medium or something but its basically Sailor Moon vs a bunch of insane serial killers.
As for your games Ill just post what i have and what they are about.
>They didn't make it up. It's part of some obnoxious french film movement or something.
Eh, whatever. Still a made up word.
Shuffle or P1 system where you talk, get the fucking persona card and that's it. I'd have been fucking glad with either of those two. I still have to play P2 Eternal Punishment and it seems that this time you really need to get new personas or the game will rape you.
I mean, the animations for special attacks and group attacks are pretty cool but not worth the hassle.
FF VII-VII-IX and Tactics
Alundra
Front Mission 3
Kino is a real word. But it's been turned into a meme word by Sup Forums.
>want to replay it
>remember sewers
Man, fuck that. It's not even hard. Just tedious.
Yeah talking to 10 different demons to get their cards wasn't fun
There was one persona that's broken as fuck and can be carried from early to almost late game, Maia custom.
All the others required to be switched out and constantly upgraded, I liked the combat with transformation and mutations and team attacks, but the actual cards was horrible.
>is 3 worth it too despited being on the ps2
No, it's a pretty shitty game.
Ever played Haunting Ground? It's pretty much the same shit except without a dog and a stupid boss battle every now and again where the girl does the typical Japanese transformation into battle form crap.
If you like srpgs at all you should give Vandal Hearts a go. I didn't like the second one as much as the first but VH2 is not bad either.
VH is pure Konami quality from a time when Konami was still good. Truly underrated.
>pic related
Are they any good?
>grinding 300 cards
I'm having nightmares right now
I liked that one with estoma, ended up using near the end game. Oh yeah, I enjoyed the combat and was also glad that they turned down the number of element types and shit still miss guns
>Haunting Ground
Is that the one that came from one of RE 3.5 versions and the dog is also the same you encounter and help in RE4? Sounds pretty cool.
How long are the main FF games for the ps1?
Trying to get into SRPGs, I know it's not the game's fault but mine for being bad. Still, they all look great
What I got.
Alundra: Same team that did Landstalker on Genesis. You play an elf that can go into dreams and fight against evil shit that is killing people in their dreams.
Arc the Lad series: Series of games that are tactical games that you move around via squares, story is ok but classical for the 1st game, the 2nd and 3rd a little less cliche.
Breath of Fire 3 and 4: RPGs about dragons kinda hard to go into them other than saying a decent RPG.
Brigandine: Amazing strategy game were you can play as 6 different nations with different stories. Similar to Dragon Force on the Saturn.
Bushido Blade 1 and 2: Fighting game that lets you wound your enemy, generally one hit kills, solid fighting game.
Castlevania SOTN: One of the best Castlevania games, roam around and search for stuff and kill shit.
Fighting Force 1: Beat'em up game where you punch cars and shoot people.
Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9: RPGs, take em or leave em.
Final Fantasy Tactics: Strategy game with an ok story though Tactics Ogre has a better story.
Front Mission 3: Robot strategy game with customization and 2 different full campaigns.
Heart of Darkness: Made by the same dude who did Out of this World, kid fights shadows and dies a lot.
Mission Impossible: Port of a n64 game, bad but i liked it.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 6: Got me into the RotK games, solid strategy and a look at history.
Saiyuki Journey West: Telling of the Chinese story Journey West but with humour and its another strategy game.
Star Ocean 2: 2 different characters with different stories, RPG.
Tales of Destiny 1: RPG, guy finds magical sword that talks, goes on quest to kick ass.
Thousand Arms: Pervert blacksmith must grope ladies to make magical swords, a bad harem anime game that is an RPG.
Valkyrie Profile: RPG about norse mythology. Had some tear jerker moments.
Vandal Hearts 1 and 2: Good strategy games, with good stories.
Vanguard Bandits: Robot strategy game with 3 different storylines.
Xenogears:
Grandia 1 should be added to that list, really gives a sense of adventure, great RPG and fun battle mechanics
Maybe a bit too easy though.
VH is not too difficult so it's really good for a starter srpg.
If you or anyone else plays it - a small tip: get cheap healing items to heal higher level party members to maximize exp gain. It's worth it to drag some easier battles with no time limits just to have a higher level character get hit and then heal them to gain exp and you can get more exp if the hurt character is higher level than the one doing the healing.
youtube.com
Beats the shit out of the remake boss music which was just persona 4 meh levels of music.
I maxed out at 2k words.
I missed Grandia, Brave Fencer Musashi, x-files the game, and a crappy point and click game I liked.
Holy shit, thanks guys.
>mfw this thread with people helping each other
I liked some of the remake tracks but they will never top tracks like this one you posted and atmospheric ones like which reminds of Silent Hill 2 for some reason
youtube.com
That one was good, but holy shit P1's battle theme was godlike
youtube.com
Then they replaced it with that shitty vocal song that Sup Forums defends weirdly.
Revelations Persona 1 soundtrack was fucking great. I listen to it when I go to bed, same goes for Soul Hackers and some of Devil Summoner 1 saturn/psp tracks.
Shit's comfy as fuck.
even better when adding Vampire Masquerade used and unused tracks
Yeah Persona the original had solid spooky music.
I am shitting the psp remake but their music was ok but the boss theme did not suite the mood.
Sadly I never beat Persona 1, I got to the nightmare world mall were you have to fall down pits and shit and could never figure it out.
Game also got really hard at that point since everyone needed new Personas and you had to grind that shit like mad.
>Thousand Arms: Pervert blacksmith must grope ladies to make magical swords, a bad harem anime game that is an RPG
Pretty accurate. I will never understand why people prefer this crap over Azure dreams.
Plan on starting the first one of these for the first time ever as soon as I beat RE1 DC.
3 hours is like the length of the game, wtf man
I think you can cheese by getting a Nuclear spell tablet to one of Mark's personas and getting a Lilith that absorbs any attack(helps against last boss).
>tfw Meguro cut lots of tracks from the Remake so it's impossible to insert all tracks from the PS1 version
Well, I guess we can be glad that there's a patch that restore some tracks and somehow makes the loading time faster.
Holy fucking shit I fucking forgot Azure Dreams.
That game was hard as shit but when you saw the town change you felt good since you were making a difference.
I fucking farmed that entire tower to try and find the herb to save the dying girl and when I got it I was over the moon.
Also props to 2 more I forgot.
Jade Cocoon: Pokemon with a fucking horrifying plot.
Legend of Legaia: Team of random people go to summon trees with magical powers to fight off evil fog.
It's an extremely short game so I say go for it, even if you don't like it you haven't wasted much time. I think it's interesting enough in its story, aesthetic, and gameplay mechanics to be worth playing through at least once.
Am I the only one who played and liked Hard Edge (aka T.R.A.G.: Tactical Rescue Assault Group - Mission of Mercy.. nice name you get there amerifats)? It was a fun and very, very japanese action oriented RE-like game. I mean if a person likes Resi games and Dino Crisis I don't see why they wouldn't like this game even if it's made with a smaller budget.
youtube.com
I personally haven't properly played Chaos Break but I gotta get around to doing that eventually
youtube.com
there is no need to be upset user
>town building
>monster raising
>challenging as fuck
>side missions
>can build your own harem
>can turn one of your girlfriends into a nut case
The art is kind of creepy though.
Remake when? Fan game when? Is there a rogue like engine/script?
No but I did play the Vampire resident evil game which was balls fucking hard.
> real ending is behind ng+ in a 100 floors dungeon
No, fuck that game
But the game's short and not even hard unless you intentionally gimp yourself and don't make good weapons and armor.
aw shit that tune that kicks in at 15:59
>No love for Nuclear Dawn
Its like you guys don't like a mix between Under Siege 2 and Metal Gear Solid.
>a heavily mutated female opera singer will never take your semen to give birth to an ultimate being
>and then turn you into orange goo
>not wanting to be orange goo while Shinji overthinks wether to become god or going back to not getting into the fucking robot
That's a good thread, hope it doesn't die too soon.
it's gonna need some shitposting and politics to stay alive on this shitty site
Alright lets keep it alive then
3rd birthday wasn't that bad.
Clock Tower 1 (aka First Fear) and Clock Tower 2 (aka Clock Tower in the west) are about the only CT games you need to worry about. As amusing as Ghost Head or Struggle Within is, it is not very fun to play. CT3 is just... goofy. Silly. And kinda bad. If you find it for cheap, go ahead, but the boss battles are SO bad.
First Fear has been fan-translated and can be played with a Playstation Mouse, so you can play it on PC and pretend you're playing a normal adventure game!
Also, there is NightCry, which released a few years ago on PC which is the kickstarter "spiritual sequel" of Clock Tower. It has its moments, but it's mostly very silly with a goofy-looking heroine (big-titted blond bimbo who waggles her arms around while she runs) and some head-scratchingly strange and funny dialog... all unintentionally so.
What at you talking about? Third Birthday was fantastic,
Yes.
It's pretty short too (only like 10 hours) so it doesn't drag.
