Is this game any good? I've never played a dungeon crawler type game but I'm willing to give it a try. I'm mostly interested in story quality and the extent of character customization, and gameplay of course but that goes without saying.

It's absolute dogshit and anyone that tries to convince you otherwise is a weeb fanboy. I love dungeon crawlers but this is garbage.
Oh well thank you for the advice then.
Not him, but what's bad about it exactly? Is it worse than Elminage Gothic?
Pls respond.
Explain yourself
Speaking as a complete weeb who eats up garbage like Neptunia, this series is shit.
Some series you may be interested in that have cute anime girls, dungeon crawling, and aren't shit:
- Mary Skelter: Nightmares (English this summer)
- Dungeon Travelers 2-2
He obliviously didn't play it user, he just saw animu mc on a dungeon crawler and assumed the game was crap, like every normalshit on this website does.
>check out reviews for a game that just got a PC Port
>Steam: 9/10
>Metacritic: ~60
every time
Both Shita only. Not to mention Dungeon Travelers will be censored to fuck.
DRPGs are meant to be played cozied up on your bed with a handheld, user. Playing them on Steam is a dumb idea in the first place.
I'm not going to buy a Shita sorry. Get out shitter.
I don't care about your console wars, got a gayman PC, PS4, Vita and 3DS. If you have a 3DS, 7th Dragon III is decently fun as well. But you're a retard if you want to play DRPGs sitting in a computer chair.
>NISA
No, it isn't
I don't give a shit that you want me to buy your dead handheld to play DRPGs. I asked you a question, shut the fuck up if you can't answer it.
Calm down edgelord.
Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy is a masterpiece, suggest you purchase it right now :^)
That's not an answer either user. You have to explain the goods and the bads. But since you didn't play it I guess you can't do that.
It's just ok.
A good introduction to the dungeon crawler genre imo but nothing else.
Also cute anime girls but that's a given.
is also giving good advice, both of the game he recommend are pretty good.
Devs are Experience, not NISA.
I'm actually more interested in cute anime guys but I'll check those out.
>I've never played a dungeon crawler type game
Go play Legends of Grimrock 2 or Wizardry 8 RIGHT NOW, they are the best in the genre.
You'd want Experience game such as the one in the OP because while is recommending pretty good game there's almost no anime guys in those two game.
The story is goddamn garbage but the gameplay is really solid
It's the remake of a dated Wizardry clone with almost no updates to its game mechanics. Character customization bar appearance, name and class (appearance only in the mode with classic portraits) is almost non-existent. Skill progression is completely linear for every class unlike for example Etrian Odyssey, where every class has a diverse toolkit around which you could build a personalized unit. The story is not even worth mentioning, for it is riddled with the most generic of cliches and character archetypes. If you're looking for a similar but better gameplay experience you could emulate a Class of Heroes game or Etrian Odyssey 3. Usually these kind of games aren't very story heavy, but Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey comes close and has a good story but lacks a standard party to manage.
Honestly, pc lacks a lot of good dungeon crawlers right now. If you want to play a lot of the good ones a Vita or 3DS are recommended. Stranger of Sword City however is available on pc and is much better than Operation Abyss. While not as diverse in character customization as Etrian Odyssey or Dungeon Travelers it should provide you with a good entry point into the genre. Watch some gameplay videos to see if you'd like it or not.
I tried most of the dungeon crawlers that are for the Vita and most of them super mega SHIT. Don't believe vitagen.
The only ones worth a try are Dungeon Travelers and the Moero one
>DRPG crawler
>On PC
Ahahahahahahah good joke fag
>Dungeon Travelers and the Moero one
Excellent taste.
Add Mary Skelter to that list and we're good.
There are some guys too afaik.
Do people even play DRPGs for the story?
All of the reviews below 7/10 bitch about the difficulty, complicated mechanics and outdated/simple/anime graphics.
Typical "journalism"
Why do people even bother reading those retards review?
Operation Abyss is a remake of an older game and it seems that they decided to keep many weak features for the sake of tradition.
My biggest complaint with OA by far is the extremely poor menu design that poorly conveys information and requires a needlessly large amount of steps to perform any action.
Oh and the translation is incredibly bland and not fun to read. At times I found myself confused when the characters were explaining something related story or a mechanic.
It's not terrible but it could have been much better.
I think I read some chink say the UI was shit too. Is there anything else worth mentioning? Also how would you rank the OA UI compared to Elminage Gothic's UI?
It does have the occasional difficulty spike and some enemies that love to critical hit (instant kill) you with low chance, but compared to older crawler games, it's surprisingly manageable. The ability to increase your risk and reward is nice too. Sword City has a similar concept, but Abyss doesn't have as much randomness associated with ambushing.
Certain dungeon maps are a bit tedious, especially if you're an obsessive map-clearer, but I've definitely experienced much worse.
Lack of multi-classing takes away some depth, but if you could manage it fine in Demon Gaze or other games, it's no big deal. There's still a decent amount of customization you can do via stat allocation and gearing; Rangers make surprisingly capable melee fighters, and I even made a serviceable melee-summoner.
Here's some vids of the early stages of the game so you can get an idea if you like the UI or not.

I do but I'm also easy to please.
Thanks user. Also how useful is the cat shota/loli class?
What are good dungeon crawlers, then?
He's shitposting.
It happen every time a niche anime game comes out.
>I'm a fan of this genre and I can tell you this game is absolute shit XD
When asked why it's shit they will give you either a answer so vague it could be applied to all game or they will just google the first negative review and copy/paste it.
The guy never answered.
