How is this game so unpopular? It's so much more exciting to watch from a noob viewer standpoint like mine and looks at least as complicated as the standard games (KI, SF4/5, etc).
Do westerners get intimidate because there are so many KoF games? I used to play a couple, it's not that hard to get into, probably easier actually.

if you're talking about the older kofs, they were overlooked in the usa arcades due to old graphics and low amount of animation frames.

kof today is still an easy game to play, but having to learn 3 characters to compete puts some new players off.
14 is fucking great but it needs a netcode overhaul and more improvements to the graphics to catch on.

KOF 14 is my favourite current fighting game, at least until Tekken 7 comes out.
Probably the hardest in terms of execution out of all current gen fighters. It used to be even more difficult, but still too hard for the general public.
Extreme brand loyalty. Street Fighter players are so brand loyal that they won't even play other Capcom fighters mader by the very same people who made Street Fighter. Aside from maybe Marvel.
I had a friend, who much prefers Street Fighter, watch a stream with me. We were watching KOF 14 gameplay between a whole bunch of pros, and afterwards, I asked my friend for his thoughts about what he witnessed.
The character designs are too plain
everyone looks like they have extremely similar move sets

As fun as the KoF games are, SNK is/are/were run by absolute retards that didn't understand their audience, their demographics, their strong points, their niche or their potential. Fans don't really mind if a game is an unbalanced piece of shit, just look at Smash Bros fans; they lick that swill up and ask for more. But at least their games deliver on tons of content, variety and hype.
SNK is sooooooooooo fucking stupid man. SNK was the rival of Street Fighter at one point in time. Just the fact that many fighting games can flourish despite the relatively low fighting game playing population speaks volumes. Games like; Blazblue, Guilty Gear, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive.
SNK dropped the ball so fucking hard, even harder than Sega.

How did they not listen other than a PC port? The arcade version will release in summer and that shit is running on windows 10. A pc version to too long after that isn't out of the question.

I just don't have time to invest hours in games like I used to with 10hrs a day job, wife and kids. I still haven't beaten the first route in Nier Automata and I bought that on pc release.

I know, that's my fear if/when a PC version hits. Just saying that a PC version isn't impossible since the arcade machines are basically PCs. Then again I'm already set since I got mine on PS4.
The weakest point of KoF will always be its roster, which is also why it won't ever become really popular. Virtua Fighter has the same curse. Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter just have too much personality to compete with.
Personally I hate the "e-sports" side of it and how that seems to determine pretty much everything around it. How people invent drama, the whole getting offended at 'pop-offs" and accidentally hurting someone's fee fees, having to behave a certain way, people playing a game because it exposes one/money rather than because one enjoys it, playing a certain way being "disrespectful, the elitism and tryhard-ness of it all, the dicksucking of "feaders of the FGC". Calling it e-sports in the first place, etc. Nigger you're sitting and hitting buttons, yes it requires talent and there's nothing wrong with tournaments and watching high level play can be interesting but goddamn games are about fun. Who cares if some nigger says or does some stupid shit, it's a video game have fun. No one cares if someone says or does something silly. Whatever gave birth to this shit was a mistake.
