The text can't be removed from the screen even if you use the dub.

the VAs really aren't that bad, while the original cast is miles better, the biggest issue with the dub is the voice direction.

It will probably get the job done for most dubfags, but for anyone who actually likes the game the JP track are just masterful performances from everyone involved and should be played.

Check out the Makoto videos above, she clearly sounds more higher pitched in the dub.

Some are fine, some are terrible. Anne is a fucking dumpster fire. Atlus USA needs to get new voice directors that actually give a shit instead of just recasting Yukari and Yukiko with the exact same voices but as new characters, and not assign VA's to the wrong characters. Makoto's VA is so mismatched and Futaba sounds like a 36 year old woman. Should have swapped the two.
The direction for female VA must have been "When a phantom use a higher voice!" but use a way lower one when not. Because its comical how jarring the entire thing is. Anne sounds like two different VA's for the same character.

The start is notoriously long and slow. You get the combat turorial an hour in and only get true freedom another hour later.

It's mostly liked for the cast, music, and fairly novel and well done blend of RPG+VN. Also, lots of entry level anime tropes make it palatable for a western audience despite being a JRPG

Dub for me, part of why I loved Persona 4 so god damn much is because I felt like I was hanging out/friends with these characters. That feeling doesn't exist when you can't understand what they are saying.

No, it's dub for me, no question. This isn't a 2 hour Miyazaki movie, it's an entire 80+ hour experience, and I'd like to experience it FIRST HAND without a translator...

You can hear the jp voice actors emote very well also, and if you're even vaguely familiar with anime or subs in general then you can pick up on nuances like how they address eachother or their accents also.

How much of the game goes without subs though? Really depends on that.

Different voice director, different problems. With p3/p4 they were at least somewhat bearable, but from what we got here I assume it's the same voice director we had in the arena games.

I played jap version of P5 and there is one dude who's character had low quality speed up dialogue, he almost sounded like a robot.
It was really annoying because the quality difference and the speed was jarring.
