There are Echo flashbacks in 1.0 that show the real Yda. The one that you saw during the current time in 1.0 was Lyse.

I think this is less about being confident and more about the fact that, for example, the average korean player uses at least one fantasia every two days. It's not something you can simply ignore (and SE definitively won't ignore it).
Plus, YoshiP implied that he isn't in charge of the cash shop.

As far as I know, there is no official numbers about active subs available.
If you are talking about the unofficial XIVCensus, the "active players" number have nothing to do with active subs (or actual number of active players, they just used the laziest criteria possible).

You can level everything to 35. You can't continue the story past 35 and you can't gain XP, but you can keep playing at 35 forever. The restrictions on things like gil and communication mean you'd probably want to buy the game at some point before hitting 35 on everything though, unless you're incredibly cheap.
