I liked Kong, and interviews with the director at least give me faith in the director. But can you truly make an adaptation of MGS? The series already walks a line between seriousness and stupid bullshit, that mostly works because it is a videogame.

Yes easy, it's just a guy sent to a base to stop a war machine. Adaptions are rarely 1:1 unless they're from roughly the same medium like books adapted into comics, they'll just cut the goofy shit outside of Otacon who would be the comic relief

I don't have faith in any director when it comes to video game adaptations. look at Justin Kurzel. two fantastic films under his belt (Snowtown and Macbeth), and AssCreed turned out shit. Video games aren't yet at a place in the cultural canon where adaptations of them into other mediums are seen by studios or publishers as anything more than cross promotion of the IP. You could get a great espionage thriller out of MGS like they use to make in the 70s, but what we'll most likely get is something akin to Mission Impossible 2 and 3, with extra CGI.

The main problem for adapting MGS is that despite the whole "MGS is a giant cutscene movie" meme, the series revels in the fact that it's a video game and NOT a movie. Is Miller supposed to talk about the audiences' instincts as moviegoers? How would they do the Mantis fight, perhaps the most memorable boss in the game, when fighting him involved something as "video gamey" as plugging into the other port?

I recently began playing MGS4 again in an attempt to get my skill back for MGO2.

BOY AM I FUCKING RUSTY. Playing on Big Boss Hard and got caught in the first chapter. The AI is superb in MGS4 and the guards are not nearly as blind as in many games. They also coordinate really well.

Plus I went into my captures gallery and found an old pic of a QT FROG that was giggly when I frisked her for ammo. I tried not to kill enemies, generally, when playing the main game but as it was training for MGO2 when it comes back online in a couple of weeks, I had to. Still couldn't bring myself to kill the hoppy waifus.

Stealth will probably also be backdrops for exposition via CODEC or split-screen like in MGS4. Kojima loved that effect and was extremely proud of it.
