>"Having once made the statement above, I have declined all opportunities to enlarge upon it or defend it. That seemed to be a fool's errand, especially given the volume of messages I receive urging me to play this game or that and recant the error of my ways. Nevertheless, I remain convinced that in principle, video games cannot be art. Perhaps it is foolish of me to say "never," because never, as Steve Howe informs us, is a long, long time. Let me just say that no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form."

Dude is retarded and set in his retarded ways. 'Nuff said.

Seems to me like a conviction that you don't really believe in then, friendo. The only argument I've heard for why games can't be art is that the player has an influence on how the the game goes, so I guess it might not go the way the artist intended? I don't even really get it but it seems like bullshit. Those same people will laud a painting because different people see different things and have different interpretations of it's true meaning. Anyone who says gaming can't be art are just saddened by change. They're the same people that used to make fun of people for watching Netflix and YouTube because it's not "real TV".

Isn't that a Roger eggbert quote?
Jeremiah Lewis
Ebert recanted his argument and even played some vidya IIRC
Lincoln Richardson
Nice opinion without any arguments.

Seriously. It's just pretentiousness at it's finest. The name drop is a pretty big tell. "I'm gonna add this quote from someone who garners more respect than I do to try and add legitimacy to my non-argument." I'm not against the idea of critics in general but some of them can be fsggoty cunts.
