I'll start with RE3
Games in which you start at daytime and you can backtrack those daytime locations at night later
>RE3
>daytime
user? you feel right? also to answer your question, parasite eve 2.
This doesn't happen in RE3
Weren't the RC parts of RE3 all in the same night, though?
>1024x768
Damn, please tell me there is a version of the game out there with the backgrounds in that resolution.
>resident evil
>daytime
wrong
Well, afternoon I guess.
>September 28 daylight the monsters have overtaken the city somehow i'm still alive
Forgot about that transition from day to night in PE2. Thanks.
bloodborne
The diary entry is from earlier in the day, it's painfully obvious it's nighttime when she leaves her apartment complex.
Maybe the PC port.
Fuck I bet they are from that Japan only 2006 release aren't they.
Goddamn it. Anyone know if that's easy to find and get working on an English W7 64bit?
It's fucking dark all the time, but it gets darker when you leave the police station.
Police station gates at the beginning.
Police station gates when you leave the police station.
>Retards actually missed the fact that RE3 starts off in the day and transitions into night after leaving the police station
How do you function?
Don't know about RE3, but there is a RE2 japanese PC DVD port with higher resolution.
Great choice user! I like that if you don't beat Amelia first you can visit Hemwick at daytime.
MGS3, it does the opposite as well
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
This. But i was never sure if we were seeing super early in the morning, late in the evening or just a very overcast day during the first part of RE3.
Try to imagaine a proper sunny day during the Racoon city incident. All these infected walking about the dirty car crash streets of Racoon city but the sun is shining and the uninfected birds are tweeting. I mean, it technically happned.
Oh man that is so fucking cool. I always loved RE3 and never realized this myself.
Damn I can't believe there is double the camera angle backgrounds. I'm gonna have to replay. What a beautiful game.
I know, I think both RE2 and RE3 got enhanced ports. Has anyone on Sup Forums tried to get them to work?
It would be great not having to play them in 640x480
I support the overcast day option.
Yeah it's probably overcast near sunset in the late afternoon.
Dying Light has it as a main part of the game.
I feel you bro. I like to fantasize about these things with RE classic games.
...
The game is dark as fuck, there is no way you can tell it's daylight by the render >durr the lightbulbs are on
fuck off, a real functional person would rush through the entrance of RPD, not stare at the lights
You mean an ADD spastic.
Sorry but I was admiring those background renders matey. I was sitting there thinking "wow, imagine if we had real time graphics that looked this good one day, I bet gaming will be amazing when that happens, bad games would cease to exist if everything looked so good!"
Dishonoured, kinda.
How does it feel to be a an ADHD retard?
the PC version has that resolution but it's not entirely too great
I didn't know resi 2 had VR. Does it work well?
how come the trucker turns in like 30 seconds when the player can get bitten a hundred times and never turn?
/vr/ is the retro vidya board
also, neat little addition is that, when reloading the assault rifle, a magazine actually drops
and hear I thought the casings bouncing off the backgrounds was cool as fuck
A disconnect between gameplay and story.
The player needs to be able to take damage for the sake of gameplay but as far as the story is concerned every surviving character in the RE franchise has survived their story without being harmed by infected.
videogame logic man.
That's some shittastic upscaling.
Policenauts.
>30 seconds.
an indeterminate amount of time passes before you see him again.
it seems like 30 seconds, but it could been an hour or so.
Well that's an obvious upscale from 240p it seems, probably a straight port of the PS1 version. The Gamecube version which I have has better backgrounds than that but they are native 480 IIRC. The new windows version seems to be 480 as well.
But that OP screenshot doesn't look upscaled as well. Maybe it was an old developer bullshit or something, a screenshot of an original background at a higher res that ever got into the game.
Dying Light any good? I keep hearing good things about this game, but I didn't like Dead Island at all.
Soon, when REmake 2 is done. We will see RPD and some parts of the city in first person.
Well shit, that's really damn cool.
No RE3s backgrounds are like that, some look amazing others look like pixelated dogshit.
Spider-Man games have a lot of cool locations that look better at night.
Rogue Squadron 2 has a mission where the objectives actually change depending on the time of day you play it.
>ign.com
You can visit a lot of the same locations in Zelda games and trigger a bunch of events depending on the time of day.
Doesn't really count, but most Crash 3 level sets had a nighttime variant
Well fuck, you make a good point. It must have been pretty late at night when they discovered Bravo team's helicopter in the original RE considering it was light July and sunset would have been close to 9pm.
here's a comparison of PC version at 1024x768 vs that
so i got bored a little while ago and started playing a rookie run for kicks.
the whole beginning section before you get to the police station is so well put together, but it's hard to pay attention when you are running past everything.
Grand theft auto
Dying Light has similarities to Dead Island but it is much better. You move much faster, lots of different routes, better melee.
late July*
What's the 2006 PC version?
Wow yeah, that looks like shit on the PC.
I am pretty sure it's a PS1 port. Though it's cool to see the differences, looks like yours is the daytime shot an OP's on is nighttime.
Sadly I have my Gamecube version on disk and not emulated so I can't compare but I am positive it actually looks better than that on the gamecube.
yeah, mine was daytime but the night time looks just about the same quality on PC
It is, the beginning of RE2 is fantastic. Shame it's so short though, I just wanted more. Which is why I was so glad RE3 was what is was with an extended city section.
It looks pretty nice on Dreamcast but I usually just end up playing RE2 on my Vita for convenience.
Isn't that the original PC release? I know there was 2 releases of RE2 on the PC, the original and a much later one with high res backgrounds.
Is that the 2006 release?
It's damn fucking good if you like to parkour and beat the shit out of zombies any way you want
And I don't like Dead Island either
Japan only enhanced port.
Yeah it would. Obviously the background res is consistent across the platform, so that OP image is from another source.
It still might be from the 2006 version who knows.
I am sure the 2000 PC version is just a bad port though because I swear I was amazed I could read the writings on the signs when I played the GC port that came out. So it must have been native 480p and not upscaled from 240p.
I had no idea there was another PC release of RE3
but it's the ~official north american~ release, I dunno if it differs in other regions and I don't know what the 2006 PC version is like(or if it exists) but I might want to track it down
If it's North American it's the inferior 2000 release which seems to be just a straight port of the PS1 version.
The 2006 enhanced version is Japan only though sadly. I found the 2006 version of RE2 online but can't find RE3 2006 anywhere.
Not everyone of them. In RE3, Jill was infected by the T-Virus via Nemesis' tentacle arm at the clock tower and was cured by the vaccine that Carlos got at the hospital.
it looks like there was a 2006 rerelease of RE3 by XPLOSIV but it seems to be a PAL release, although a dirt cheap one
it would seem that that guide is flawed
owned
funny how this turned into an RE3 thread
IMO RE2 has better street sections, RE3 ones are really good, but they aren't as grimy and menacing as the sections from RE2. And yeah it's fucking shame that we didn't get more street exploration in RE2.
>I found the 2006 version of RE2 online but can't find RE3 2006 anywhere.
It's on a russian tracker I frequent. Both with the Resident Evil 2 2006 port.
there's kind of another problem with that.
jill was able to apparently hold off the infection for two days, then carlos goes and makes the vaccine.
how the hell?
I actually really loved the beginning of RE2 in the streets
I always got bored of the game in the police station because it wasn't very exciting visually
RE3 came along and all of a sudden 3/4 of the game is going through the streets of raccoon
one of my biggest gripes with ORC is that I wanted to see raccoon city in modern graphics but everything in that game was so fucking bland and shitty
Balamb Garden at night in FFVIII is so fucking calm and good to walk by.
What's the name so I can go get it please.
Thanks user. Played Policenauts years ago and now I have a reason to replay it.

Screenshots are listed there too, not sure how they compare to previous versions. RE2 seems to be the same, not any better. but they are only at 640x480 so I'm sceptical if they are even properly sourced. Screenshots for RE3 are 1280x1024, attached.
Most open-world games
In FFIX iirc you come back to Alexandria and it's dark, pretty cool atmosphere
Bloodborne
Persona games, in particular the 3rd imo
It's so quiet!
Thank you very much friend I appreciate your help.
No backtracking, but there is a transition from day to night in Tomb Raider 2 Venice levels and those levels have some special atmosphere.
I think it's just that RE2's street section is so short you want more of it. I don't think it's better. RE3's streets are god tier to explore.
RE2's streets were pretty linear but good looking. That basebase court around the backstreets in RE2 was cool as well.
But the other user is right that RE2 gets visually a bit more boring ones you are done with the police station. The later part of the game was not as good as the early parts. While RE3 was way more consistent throughout.
Thank you buddy!
>multiple instances of not being able to get to a survivor in time
>beginning of the game
>run through the street, go up the fire escape to get some herbs
>run past that area later and the fire escape is up
You just now realized that there were probably still a large amount of survivors in Raccoon city boarded up in their homes, businesses or other buildings waiting for the military to come or the entire situation to pass so they could get out safely. Trapped in a dying city, holding out some hope of survival, incinerated by a nuke.
Thanks
I've always wanted a more fleshed out RE3 remake on a more powerful system where we see more of the city and more survivor groups and those Umbrella swat teams taking people out.
God, it's why I loved the two Outbreak games so much. They were like a sequel just to RE3 it was so cool. Also Umbrella Chonicles RE3 section was fun as fuck.
Has anyone here played Dark Side Chronicles? Is it worth getting to play the RE2 city section? Does it emulate well and can I play with a mouse? Wait weren't both of those games ported to PS3/360 eventually?
I think the chronicles games got ported to PS3 via PSN or something but I'm not sure
honestly any city section in RE is great, but they are usually pretty damn short compared to the rest of the game outside of 3.
the city section all the way up until you get into the church in leon's campaign was probably the only part of 6 that i really enjoyed
>only on PSN unless you want to import from Japan and I just checked ebay and the are all overpriced
Fuck.
Shit I forgot to mention, is the Jap version at least translated or am I stuck getting it digitale only. I seriously don't trust my PS3 to stay alive at this point and PSN will likely go down within a few years too.
I got an old 40 gig fat model from 2007 or something that is still working.
Green herbs help suppress zombie infection in my fanon.
Maybe you've a point in there user. RE2 leaves you imagining how the whole city would be due to the lack of more street sections and RE3 gives you the perfect amount of street exploration so you can have an idea of the general look of Raccoon City and you don't need more of it. Though I have to say the RE2 streets had a bigger impact on me cause it was something new.
re3 had a lot of those small things in the background that really added to the game.
most games don't even try to do stuff like that anymore.
also files might as well not exist in the newer games
How does this make any sense?
In RE2 its clearly show the Zombie Outbreak only started during the night by the intro FMV's.
So how the fuck is this supposed to be during the day.
PARTY
PARTY
PARTY
party
What did they mean by this?
God RE3 was so fucking good.
Didn't Outbreak do stuff like this too? I remember finding tons of little things in the city levels in that. How did classic RE get city exploration so goddamn right?
I mean I love classic RE but REmake and mansion exploration usually takes the focus on Sup Forums now due to the PC port, and I love REmake but man seems like RE3 just gets forgotten and the only dead city exploration was so goddamn cool.
From the architecure though it really doesn't look like an American city. It looks like a tight compact Japanese city just Americanified. Or from my own experience, maybe a little Euro/French with the tiny roads you see here from it being an old city Racoon City just had a very weird architectural look and feel to it and I love it.
...
no actually even in the game there were files that were dated two days before or so.
the only thing that doesn't make sense nowadays is how leon and claire were able to get into the city at all considering how there should have been a blockade at that point.
Still doesnt change the fact that the FMV's clearly show its night time when it starts
Crysis
RE3 starts at daytime. Jill confronts Nemesis in the clock tower and gets infected by Nemesis. Jill remains unconscious one day, during that day RE2 happens. When Jill wakes up Leon and Claire have already espaced from Raccoon City.
