His main weakness is that he really lacked an overarching personal goal, besides "making it". CJ wanted to bring back the grove, Micheal wanted to feel alive again, Niko didn't really have direction.

I think Niko wasn't even about "making it" as much as he was just reacting to shit that was going on around him.

Now that I think of it they kind of streamlined that in GTAV

Michael is the protag that's reacting to situations.
Trevor is the protag that is initiating situations.
Franklin is the guy who just does what he's told.

Niko hates killing but realizes it's all he's good at, so he has to do it. He finds out that America is bullshit and he can't escape the killing no matter where he is.

Do you really think GTA 4's writers wrote an entire main fucking character and then realized he couldn't kill people so they made a shitty reason why? No, they wrote him to be a hypocrite because giving characters flaws is fucking important so the audience can relate with them, or even challenge the audience to think about whether or not to side with him.

Niko's biggest issue is the fact his main plot line is getting money to pay Roman's debts and keeping his head down to avoid the Russian mob, but by the midgame you've got just shy of a million dollars.

Roman was a gambler and a retard but there is no way in hell that the mob would lend him up to a million when he has such a shit history of repaying.
