DEEP INTO THAT DARKNESS PEERING

DEEP INTO THAT DARKNESS PEERING
LONG I STOOD THERE
WONDERING
FEARING
ETERNAL DARKNESS THREAD

Cha'tturgha vs. Ulyaoth was the best Ancient fight.

I loved this game... we need more Lovecraft inspired games like this one and like bloodborne.

Lindsey was the best character, prove me wrong.

I liked how if you cast a healing spell while your sanity meter was too low, it'd have a chance to show a death animation.

It wasn't just a death animation, everything above the waist would explode.

...

Underrated game. Well probably not since it is held in high regard, so let's rather say it deserves to be talked about more.

Subtle loss

Overlooked, not underrated. It's a gem of the gamecube, and I still have some resentment towards Nintendo for just sitting on the IP. For fuck's sake, we live in a day and age where horror games are more popular than ever, so why not make a good Eternal Darkness follow up?

PARGON PARGON PARGON PARGON

>Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
>Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

Why did they stop at "doubting"? The rest of the line still fits the theme of the game, somewhat.

MAY THE RATS EAT YOUR EYESSSS
THE DARKNESS COMES! IT WILL DAAAMN US ALL!

TIER, REDGAMOR, PARGON, PARGON PARGON, PARGON, (insert chosen old god.)

Pretty much everything claims to be inspired by Lovecraft these days.

pretty much the main reason beside REmake to get a Gamecube. wish they still would give us such a lineup for every nintendo console

Is this completely playable on dolphin?

yes

This is something that pisses me off, because most of them Bloodborne included aren't even "Lovecraftian", they're cosmic horror. Thy're very similar, but there are key differences.

>but there are key differences

What are they? Please educate me

t. uncultured swine

Pargon Pargon Pargon Pargon Pargon

The key difference is power of the protagonist: In Lovecraft, the old ones always win. It doesn't matter if you beat the Whately's for instance today, or leave Innsmouth unscathed, because in the end the Great Old Ones will return, and great Cthulhu will rise from the ocean depths and retake the earth. it's the cold inevitability of it, and the human races collective insignificance in the face of it, that makes something Lovecratian. Having Alien Gods and the like doesn't make it so, and I wouldn't classify Bloodborne as Lovecraftian simply because you can not only beat the Great Ones, but even become one.
There's much more, and I haven't even touched upon the dream aspect of Lovecraftian horror (Which BB actually does well, depending on how the player reads it) but this should get my main point across.

>tfw you save someone from being bonethieved.

To be fair, no one won in Eternal Darkness. Mantorok played you all, especially the protagonist. Sure you stopped the Old One Pius was aligned with, but Mantorok allowed you that victory.

Does the game still hold up today?

I've been getting my gf into more and more video games and I think she's ready for something like that.

I haven't played the game myself in at least a decade

scary as fuck

no. better give her re7. mine loves it

Are you making jokes here or...
Because I don't know how RE7 has anything to do with this game besides the fact that there are some spooks

>To be fair, no one won in Eternal Darkness
Precisely, and I'd say that ED is one of the few genuinely Lovecraftian games.

>Eternal Darkness will never get a sequel/spiritual successor
>Shadow of the Eternals funding will never be revived
>Alex Roivas will never be in Smash

FEELS FUCKING TERRIBLE MAN

>Alex Roivas will never be in Smash
If any one of the cast got in, it would be Pious.

I hated those motherfuckers

Now deal with the one with no head.

It has some real problems. Once you figure out the magic system gives you infinite health and sanity nothing is particularly threatening, and even beating a horror without taking damage isn't all that difficult in the first place. Many sanity effects are repeated and tied to specific rooms in the game so you can easily see them coming, ultimately they become more of a series of meta jokes than anything tied into the gameplay. Going through the forbidden city with Edward and Alex is also kind of a slog. Don't get me wrong, I do love them game and have a great sense of nostalgia for it.

At the beginning, choosing Chatturgha made the game have tougher enemies, Xellotath made you more likely to experience sanity effects, choosing Ulyoath made you realize you need to restart the game and choose someone else.

both are survival horror. but re7 is much easier to get into. the whole rune spell system and the combat system might be repulsive for her. it was for mine for sure

You're not wrong

So we'd all fuck Xel'lotath, right?

No, Greys can eat shit. Doesn't matter if they're Gods or whatever.

>and choose something else
Why? I don't remember what the effects were

Magic based enemies.
