How would the gaming industry be today if this genre never existed/became popular?
How would the gaming industry be today if this genre never existed/became popular?
mario smash and kart
will take over. heh. can u handle that?
Those games wouldn't be on the PC, so...
Riot wouldn't exist.
Blizzard would be fine.
Valve would suffer but not enough to truly lose any steam.
Mobile games might have more Gachas instead of shitty 'Mobas'.
Paid cosmetics would likey not be as hefty as they are now.
Esports would still follow RTS games, which int turn would have flourished a bit more, but still not reach the same numbers.
A lot of good porn would probably be gone too but that's tertiary.
We might have Half Life 3
Literally no difference.
Literally fucking nothing, we'd just have four less PC exclusives.
>Thinking the most popular genre disappearing wouldn't impact the direction of game development.
Overwatch wouldn't have ultimates
I think esports just never would have taken off in the way that it did and you wouldn't have a lot of the subsequent "twitch games" come out. FGC would be a hell of a lot smaller. Other than that, not much. I think the trends you see in design and monetization would still exist. I think the streamlining of mechanics and the general simplification of games would still persist.
Most of this.
Yeah. Esports are pretty cancerous though, now even casual games have to have the illusion of "competitive balance" and are subject to spectator centered balance unfortunately.
but I enjoy esports. The casual gamers are the problem, not the esports.
its bizarre that warcraft 3 is to blame for this shit
What makes eSports cancer, exactly?
not him but i cant play overwatch because ive got 5 manchildren screaming in my ear because my hero choice isnt competitive enough
Which is a straight rip off of Warhammer. So should we blame Games Workshop?
nothing to do with games workshop, warcraft 3 just had a lot of maps featuring heroes and spawning creeps that ran down a path
Overwatch is a shit game all around though.
You also have screaming kids in non eSports games. Ever play Halo3, or just about any game with mic support?
Also, plenty if eSports games do have meritable skill, like CSS, and then you got fighting games, which don't need a mic.
Yeah, but I was saying Blizzard ripped Warcraft from Warhammer.
>CSS
>Meritable skill
WEW LAD.
yeah you're right, I guess I havent really played any other game requiring a mic in the last 10 years
RTS wouldn't be dead.
It still would be lmao
yeah the strength of moba is that the player can blame their team, so really they never lose
Don't fool yourself, Mobas are not as influential as FPS games.
Wew lad...
If you want to get technical you'd have to blame Starcraft.
They were influential enough to kill a genre
...
Warhammer in a similar way ripped from Dune, I'd say.
There would be a lot more peruvians and russians infesting other games.
Valve would probably focus their efforts elswere, probably TF2 or CS:GO
RTS would die from the next tier down, probably competitive city builders?
but RTS games are fun?
And i bet MOBA's are lame and boring XD
that's why MOBA's have the worlds attention with MLG and competitive scene while RTS' can't even a fill a small arena with Blizzard funding/shilling
They are lame and boring, and that's what the casual audience wants. Something too hard is clearly too much to handle for their shit filled brains.
What the fuck are you talking about, OP? Those games are self-contained, and every other game that tried to ride the bandwagon got fucked hard.
Hell, HoTs would be dead if it wasn't a Blizzard game. Almost nobody is making a new moba game anymore, so how can it influence anything?
