Real talk, Sup Forums, I know the original DS has a pretty big library, but what were it's best hidden gems? on the sytem?
I loved the second chibi robo game, even if I can't read moon runes

What's that about?
what kind of games do you enjoy?
if its like srpgs Luminous Arc was pretty good imo on the DS,
Srpgs are, in fact, one of my favourite genres.
Any other outside FFTA2 and the Disgaea port?
Tempted to say pic related, but it was never great in the gameplay department. Still, the atmosphere is something I haven't found in another game to-date, it has a food based buff system (one of my favorites), and it's quite relaxing walking through the forests of Ft. Eagle. For anyone whos patient, give it a try.
Best hidden gem on the DS coming trough:
Ruining Blue Earth Remix.
Its not too bad. The coin magic stuff is pretty fun
try googling ORCS AND ELVES
999
Yoshi's Touch and Go, it was overpriced as fuck at launch but I still enjoyed it.
Should i play Chrono Trigger on DS ?
Never tried, is it that good ?
>should i play one of the GOAT JRPG's?
Yes user, yes you should
Hotel Dusk
Last Window (RIP)
That furry game, Solatorobo or whatever was pretty good. Recommend KH re:coded as well. Don't play 358/2 Days.
does the 3ds have action rpgs that aren't star force and KH or what
Tried solatorobo, it was so easy I got bored out of my mind. Looked and played nice, I gotta say.
I remember FF Crystal Chronicles Ring of Fates was underwhelming
Theresia
...
Hotel Dusk was fantastic.
I should get around to finishing Last Window one of these days,
The battle network series
Only DS game I have ever been interested in was Super Princess Peach.
I just thought she was cute in it, it's an easy platformer literally made for girls.
Monster Tale is a pretty good Pokevania
Rune Factory
Children of Mana
>Hotel Dusk was fantastic.
is the alternate ending of it worth getting? since like one has to fucking play through it a second time to even get the chance to do it?
>pokevania
Did you just come up with this term?
A simple rogue-like game but good tho.
The after credits scene is worth seeing, but whether you do that through youtube or not is up to you
no, just look it up on youtube
Animal Star: Third Cross
Fantasy life.
It takes several playthroughs, but it's worth it for the very end.
Trace Memory is a fantastic point and click adventure that took advantage of the unique architecture of the system, really early in its lifespan. A couple of the mechanics are awkward, but it was a really nice and well told story, and when the unique things about the DS work, they work amazingly well.
Such a good idea
kek
I knew I'd trigger someone's autism
If you bought this game on release day, you got the cyoa book that it was based on too.
and the sequel will never be translated
I don't know anyone else who has played this game but I loved it.
There's a translation for the Jap only Chibi Robo game on DS btw, I've been playing it on my flashcart.
gbatemp.net
I've played all 3 games and liked it
Star wars episode III
Final Fantasy XII revenant wings
Ninja Gaiden
EBA
Maybe the gameplay wasn't too fantastic but the story and the characters were really good, I really enjoyed it
Where's the best place to buy a DSTWO?
Fuck you, the console version superior in every way. Even as for collectaton it sucks. All the levels were too short and lifeless.
...
my bro had that, getting that fire sword was fucking tight
I liked the game but once I beat the supposed """ending""" and there was more after the credits I honestly couldn't be bothered, especially knowing my furry game was not furry AT ALL.
DSTWO's are garbage, overpriced, and drain your battery even when you're not using it. Get an R4i.
Patched JUS
I think it's borderline hidden since it's an import (although there's a fullbodied FAQ), but now you can play it patched
>CC2 won't make anything they actually want to ever again
feels bad man
Yessssss. I specifically came into this thread to make sure someone posted this one.
Came here to post this. Good taste, user.
>I'm the only one who got the 4 tailed fox form.
Feel the Magic XY-XX and The Rub Rabbits
Pic related. It was a very good co-op game, and it's a shame Nintendo chooses to act like it never existed.
Other good games are the Bleach fighting games, Ninjatown, Jump Ultimate Stars, Monster Tale, Henry Hatsworth, and there was one RTS that was about robots I really liked.
Fuck, forgot pic
>that intro sung by eri kawai
hits me just right man
Pokemon Conquest
Played the shit out of this.
>japan only
There's a 99% translation patch for it. If you got friends, get it and play with them. Fun stuff.
Best game ITT
play it, love it
Wasnt this a direct sequel to the original. How similar is the gameplay.
oh shit Project rub got a sequel?
Direct sequel, similar gameplay.
nor the GBA game
I remember buying Superstars in a fucking best buy which carried a small selection of imports for some reason. Most everything was DS anime games, but damn if I wasn't happy to get this one.
Still sad we never got a third game on 3DS, probably because of the 3D mechanic.
I'd say that 3D would be great if it took a more diorama approach and still had 2d sprites, kinda like paper mario
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
999
Ace Attorney series
Professor Layton series
SMT: Strange Journey & Devil Survivor
Ghost Trick
Dragon Quest IX (especially if you have friends to play it with)
Speaking of Naruto games, this one was pretty fun too.
The sequel is so fucking good.
It's the main reason why I got a 2ds and hacked it.
the concert dude, the concert...
That was one of the first games I got for DS.
There was a puzzle involving closing the DS or looking at it through a mirror... It was neat, and kinda unsettling.
for real
Really Sup Forums? No one posted this yet?
Good luck finding a physical copy.
still hurts
I used to have a massive stack of DS/3DS games but I had to downsize due to being broke. The DS is such a great system and it's a shame most just remember it as a Nintendogs/Brain Age machine. There's something for everyone on it for sure. It reminds me of the PS2 in that regard. Off the top of my head I'd recommend
>Retro Game Challenge/Game Center CX + the sequel (JP only but I'm pretty sure there's an English patch)
>Lunar Knights
A spiritual successor to the Boktai series if I'm not mistaken. Really interesting setting with vampires and robots in outer space and shit. Isometric RPGs certainly aren't for everyone but it's worth a try if you liked Boktai. At least you won't have to worry about playing it outside.
>Aliens Infestation
Pretty straightforward action platformer with nice pixel art and engaging setting. It can be a bit rough since characters are dead permanently once they're KO'd and I'm pretty sure some parts are designed to have you lose a couple squadmates but it's still really fun, if a bit short.
>Phantasy Star Zero
Picked this one up on release day and couldn't put it down for over a month. Probably nostalgia talking at this point but if you like PS games it's worth a try. I don't think the servers are still up and if they were I doubt anyone would still play but the story mode is still fun on its own.
Normally I'd say SMT: SJ as well but considering it's getting a 3DS remake I'd just wait for that even if it has FUCKING Doi designs and a Marie-esque addition
How so? I heard it's the best flash cart around
It sure did, and it's just as good.
I remember playing the game endlessly trying to get all the secrets and collectibles
It is from a technical standpoint but the extra power isn't used by any homebrew of note except the GBA emulator. If you want to play GBA games on a DS get a slot 2 cart, and if you want to play GBA games on a 3DS do injects or use mGBA. The DSTWO's extra power doesn't justify its price tag or its battery drain (that extra processor takes extra electricity).
t. dstwo owner
this but unironically
poorfag here, what is the best way to emulate the ds?
Don't. A DS is like twenty dollars and you can get a flashcart for as low as ten.
I'm not always an original hardware fag but with the DS it's important.
okay, what is a good model to own then?
>I'm not always an original hardware fag but with the DS it's important.
Why?
DS Lite
R4i Gold 3DS Wood flashcart
drop another 30 bucks for a 3-in-1 slot 2 pak that lets you play GBA games natively too
Is the DSi XL any good?
I like a crisp display and I have bear paws so it seems great
whatever you can find cheapest
theres no -bad- model, but the original is the worst. the rest are all equally good
i have one but i find it boring
meant for
Nanashi No Game/Nameless game
Has a fan translation
...
I'm fucking retarded
This is good advice. If you want a cheaper flashcard go for it.
The touchscreen. It's not the same as clicking, and phone screens are capacitive which is shit for resistive-oriented stuff like on the DS.
but note that the DSi has exclusive games and features via the DSiWare Store, and DS has exclusive games and features via the GBA slot.
Sigma Harmonics if you can understand moon runes. It's odd that it was never localized despite being developed by SE.
Soundtrack is pretty neat: youtube.com
>If you want a cheaper flashcard go for it.
eh, that card already only $15 or so. Some of the cheaper cards than that are the scummy type that will brick themselves after a certain calendar date so you have to buy another.
