Hi, v/irgin anons.. I' ve been lurking in your board for a really long time (so don't call me a newfag), and I have been playing all sorts of games since I were a kid. Recently, I' ve decided to move on to some other game that is feels more intellectually stimulating and is a new field for me. And I've chosen chess. My trouble is, anons, I suck more balls in this game than a cheap Las Vegas prostitute, and I want to fucking git gud. I have played over 700 matches and I still suck. How do I git gud, anons?
Chess Thread: How do I git gud???

What are you playing chess for you fucking nerd?
Like nearly any game, practice is key. There'll be a long period where you suck, but everything will click eventually.
Because I've beaten Bloodborne 14 times and I'm still waiting for new Nioh DLC. Also, because it is a new territory I wanna explore.
Yeah, that is my fucking problem. I have already played 700 fucking matches and I still suck balls.
You can keep going, or you can take a break. No game should feel like an uphill battle or a grind.
Just play starcraft instead
Chess is boring as fuck and has been solved. You should of moved on by about age 12.
Yeah. But I wanna git gud right fucking now.
Why would I play Starcraft, I have already played so many vidya my eyeballs are falling out.
He's right though. In chess everyone has different plateau lengths and levels, usually it just needs to be played out. Frustrating, but maybe pick up some literature to help stimulate new thoughts or break bad habits.
>>Chess is boring as fuck and has been solved. You should of moved on by about age 12.
Is literally no one on this board good in Chess?
What is "fun", then, by your standards?
make a lichess lobby right now and play with faggots here
also
>Wittgenstein99
when's your birthday son?
Will this literature be able to help me get better? Or is Chess inherently about intelligence and IQ?
If your end goal is just to get good, then you're in for a world of pain. But good luck to you.
Read chess books. Learn openings. Watch famous games. Study on lichess. Ez.
Chess is really one of those games where you could play 10000 games and barely get better. You need to analyze your games with a chess engine. You need to look up master games and analyze those. You need to watch GMs play on Lichess. You need to do chess puzzles (helps with calculating lines), study opening theory (Control center, develop minor pieces, don't move a piece twice, castle), study midgame theory (win pawns, develop position into a winning endgame), and study endgame theory (use your material advantage to force a win/promote a pawn). You need to practice but with effort, "active practice." Learn common openings and traps. Learn common mating patterns and attack patterns. Then maybe, maybe, you might git gud.
Nobody likes to play games when they are bad at them. So go figure.
there's a chess game on Vita/PS3/maybe PS4 and PC, it's called Pure Chess
it has a training mode where you can learn piece positions and strategies, I got to medium proficiency and won a decent amount of matches before quitting, I'm willing to bet money I can beat my irl friends thanks to that game too.
It's not a difficult game if you're motivated and intelligent. There's a difference between being interested and being good.
What's more fun than chess? Just about everything. You'd honestly be better off playing assfaggots, that's slightly less pathetic being grandmaster in than being grandmaster in chess.
also back to rddit
I was gonna buy that game but then I lent my PS4. When I get it back, I'm gonna download that shit.
Do you think that when you play since you were a kid, you just learn something that is really much harder to learn as an adult, just like language is? My brother has been playing chess since he was a kid and he's at level 1200, while I didn't play it as a kid chess and I'm barely 600.
I've seen chess threads get deleted pretty often
is it because chess belongs on /tg/? I don't see how they're rule breaking
I was gonna post it in there but there are so few anons in there and I'm so used to v/ that I decided to just post here.
The
>it's easier to learn something as a kid
is the stupidest aspect of correlation doesn't even causation I've ever seen
>do something for a long time
>surprised when proficient at it
>do something as a kid with zero distractions
>surprised when proficient at it
hey guys what's GOing on in this thr
Go? Get outta here, you filthy chink! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
where the lichess lobbies at
Isn't this /tg/?
yes, it is.
the superior game
Guy you asked here, I'm not but his answer is about as spot-on as possible. It's a load of bull made by lazy people because kids are autistic and do shit 16 hrs/day for no reason whatsoever and then it's like
>wow wtf why are they good
Because they put so many hours into a thing that ""adults"" can only put one hour a day into without crying and giving up. If you're 600, you need to go over the absolute fundamentals again. Even watching a few commentated youtube videos can really improve your game at that level (Kingscrusher, TheChessWebsite, MatoJelic). I wish I could help you more.
Awesome
>Puts on robe and wizard hat
is it true smarter people play GO over chess
yes. Yes it is.
Learn what a valuable trade is.
I like to give all the pieces differing values.
Pawn = 1
Knight = 2
Rook/Castle = 3
Bishop = 4
Queen = 5
If I can sacrifice a lower value chess piece to take a higher value one, I will almost always do so. Getting rid of an opponents Bishop or Rook and it only costing a Knight is a huge advantage for you.
god imagine playing GO with black and white m&ms
you know there's a semi-official scoring system that's completely different from yours right
>Knight = 2
>Bishop = 4
> Rook = 3
>?????
Are you a fucking idiot? Knights and Bishops are roughly the same value (though I think Knights are worth more), but Rooks are absolutely the most useful pieces besides the queen. (PS. Have you ever seen someone do a check mate with only two Bishops? Never. But I have seen many do it with two rooks.)
>How do I git gud???
Get autism. No joke since the best chess players remember patterns, and the entire game an be educed to a finite number of ways a game can go down. Essentially its all about making trying to control which game you are replicating so your opponent ends up replicating a game in which their side loses.
>tfw to inteligant for chess
There's a shit ton of theory on chess already. As says practice is good, but there are already a ton of people who've already figured out a ton of shit. Before you practice, learning some of the fundamentals is better, otherwise you'll start farther behind then you need to.
chess is solvable
which means that the more moves you know the better youll do
so get to reading OP
your generic how 2 git gud at chess for dummies book should suffice at first
lichess.org
haven't touched the game in years
>has been solved
No it hasn't. Do you even know what "solved" means? If you want an actually solved game, then tic-tac-toe is solved.
You do understand that higher is better, right?
Also knights are practically worthless. They EXIST to be sacrificial pieces because of their limited movement.
Oida, wie kann man nur auf Sup Forums nach Schach-Tipps fragen anstatt zu einschlägigen guten Foren zu pilgern und sich die notwendige Literatur zuzulegen.
>You'd honestly be better off playing assfaggots
Do you really think that or are you exaggerating?
chess and go are not formally solvable because finding the perfect move in a given position is in complexity class EXPT-C, and there is a proof that problems in EXPT-C cannot be solved by any polynomial-time algorithm (i.e. feasible computation time). that is, a true "solution" to chess or go is impossible to compute in any realistic amount of time
chess and go AI work by using "probabilistic" methods, though in my opinion this is somewhat misleading -- they're not rolling dice, the probabilities represent confidence that a move is optimal, and they always prefer the most likely-optimal move
get outta here, shitposter.
>being told a harsh truth
>must be a shitposter
some people.
What truth? He literally just wrote some shit on German. And literally everyone on Sup Forums knows that the lingua franca in Sup Forums is english.
