This is honestly one of the most unique games ever made. Why did this saga die? Why doesn't anyone talk about this game?

They've made a shitty spinoff called Third Birthday that basically killed off Aya after a shitty plot with Kyle, her dumb sister and literallywho characters as its bosses. Plus I don't think they still have rights to the original novel.
Vagrant Story was probably more unique than this.
It was a straightforward game whose LORE didn't get super deep, or have many unanswered questions. There's not many different ways of playing or superior weapons that you could debate about. When everyone who plays a game agrees that it's enjoyable, there isn't much to say.
Anyway, I miss games atmospheres like that were dark like this. Why this game doesn't get a re-textured HD reboot is beyond me. It's not particularly long nor are the maps super detailed or complex.
It's too late now, though. SE's current aesthetic's and gameplay are too fantastical for the PE universe.
You saw what they did to this in 3, they literally can't make games for people without ADHD now.
I personally think the game had a lot of flaws that could have been easily avoided.
Aya walked painfully slow, and the running wasn't much better. Plus the scenarios were huuuge (but still enclosed and linear) with several loading screens so exploring and traversing was a pain in the ass.
Pacing is all over the place, just like a metal gear game, 20 hours of cutscenes, 10 minutes of control, then another 20 hours of cutscenes. It feels like one of those games from game dev tycoon when you make an unconventional genre mix...survival horror with RPG. The game didn't know what to be.
Also those atrocious camera angles couple with needing to be literally 1 pixel away from anything to interact with it. I remember I got stuck for like 2 hours at the opera house because I couldn't find a key for the rehearse room, I checked every single room and in the end it turned out that I had to examine a diary on a mirror, thing is that was one of the first places I examined and aya didnt interact with anything
I always thought their choice of artstyle was extremely bizarre. The game felt like throwing an FF7 character model into FF8. Aya had "realistic" body but anime girl face, and all the other characters looked "realistic", she felt completely out of place
PE's downfall was SE not knowing what to do with it. I will insist this till the end of time.
Shame though.
3rd birthday PE way way too different from the original PE games.
The worst is that 3rd birthday isn't even a bad game, it is just a bad parasite eve game.
>Why this game doesn't get a re-textured HD reboot is beyond me.
For a decently long time most companies would chuck out their source code once the game was released, since the idea of HD remakes wasn't as common back then as it was now.
Sqeenix in particular had to basically recreate Kingdom Hearts for this reason, and I'm sure they only did so because it's a big moneymaking franchise of theirs.
Speaking of FF7, the characters are basically an Alternate Universe where Hojo is Hans Klamp, Cloud is a Aya, Jenova is Eve, and Barrett is basically still Barrett.
I think a lot of these scenes would be really creepy in a reboot, like when you confront Eve in the dressing room for the first time.
The various transformation cutscenes could look terrifying if redone in a modern engine
Well that makes sense that there's similarities with characters in FFVII and PE. Parasite Eve was what became of the original FFVII project, when they were thinking about setting the game in New York City. It's kinda like how we got Devil May Cry out of RE4's development
Enemies in the 3rd birthday were bullet sponges.
>I think a lot of these scenes would be really creepy in a reboot, like when you confront Eve in the dressing room for the first time.
Or when she dissolves the whole park audience
or when she set a horse on fire
or when she's a pregnant monstruosity...
Now that I think about it, PE is probably too gross in concept to be remade
Too much grinding
PE 1 has not aged well. it could use a remake. too bad SE is incompetent and the author a greedy asshole.
Let's say we're SE and we still have the rights to the novel, how would you guys make the real Parasite Eve 3?
-Plot: Aya is working with the FBI again, hunting monsters and training recruits with latent mitochondrial powers. Some bad dudes have kidnapped lil' Eve and you gotta save her.
-Gameplay: Third-person action horror like RE4/Revelations but with magic and more in-depth weapon customization.
-Brand new score by Yoko Shimomura (with some remixed classics). Designs by Tetsuya Nomura. Script by anyone but Motomu fucking Toriyama.
2 > 1 to be (honest)
funny, I'm selling this on eBay right now, game is good... just prefer the extra cash
Unique? I don't think so, but it was an amazing game. Too bad that The 3rd Birthday is shit.
...
First game was The Thing style body horror
Second took a sort of cyberaugmentation direction
3rd birthday turned into a darker World Ends With You
>people beg for Parasite Eve revival
>they bring it back with a kikestarter
>they hire hipsters
>hipsters make the protagonist a womyn of color instead of the original character
>another giant shitstorm
i guarantee this is how it would happen
>that combat system that had firearms in an RPG in a pretty solid way
>that weapon customization
>that soundtrack
>new game plus w/ bonus dungeon crawling
Amazing game indeed.
What did Nomura mean by this?
...
>Why did this saga die?
It was a throwaway title they did to recycle engine they built for Final Fantasy games, not popular enough to warrant new games.
>Why doesn't anyone talk about this game?
Squeenix curse, nobody cares about their anything that's not FF. Same thing with Sega, nothing from Sega that's not Sonic will catch a convo.
