They overstepped with the always online/spyware fiasco. But they've really shaped up. No exclusives but their u.i/online experience improves.

Disgusting americunts get out of my glorious Nippon console industry reee

Almost nothing deserves the gate it gets here.

But tell that to the Leafy generation. See how far arguing with a trash can lid will get you.

They bought upon the era of general hubris of western game development, so yeah. Fuck them.

CHECKED

I see you weren't around for their SPORTS SPORTS TV MOVIES SPORTS conference

I own a good PC so there's no incentive for me to ever buy one.

SPOHTS

The OG Xbox and the 360 for the first half of its lifespan were legitimately good. After that, beyond the odd neat thing here and there, what's there even to defend?

youtube.com/watch?v=x_xJqkzngBI

Yes, i own a 360 and played the shit outta halo 3 while all i did on my bone was play destiny when I could've gotten more shit on the ps4

>2000 was 17 years ago
>it's basically the 90s
>within 3 years 2010 will be the 90s

Sony won by doing litterally nothing with the ps4.

that's how bad xbox is.

Kinect ruined the Xbox division.

I feel like Nintendo and MS have had a similar phase where they were distracted by gimmiks, unfortunately MS doesn't have the IP strength to bail them out.

Xboner only pushes garbage like sports and cod/halo thought

This post makes no sense but I absolutely understand and relate to it

Imo nintendo likes gimmicks and microsoft just tries to rip off people with gimmicks

I'd love to have that poster

Plus they don't even have faith in any of their IPs that aren't Halo or GoW and taking risks at all is now considered a big no-no at MS.

We just need to look at how they treated Darkside Studios with the Phantom Dust reboot. They wanted to turn it into an e-sport of sorts patterned after Hearthstone's success, but then pulled the plug when they weren't even prepared to get behind it in any meaningful capacity.

I was an xbox fanboy until that E3 happened. They may have gone back on a lot of stuff because of the massive backlash but it was too late. Now I'm stuck with a shitty controller with the PS4.
Xbone killed it self before it was born

They pushed things way too far with their original xbone pitch. All the consumer unfriendly garbage they tried to shove in really put everybody off the brand.

I'm personally glad about it. That's just about the only time in recent history that I've seen a company forced to behave better due to consumer backlash (except when steam tried to sell payed mods).

It doesn't help that the Xbone itself is this gen's no game machine with literally 0 worthwhile exclusives.

After the xbone reveal for E3, yeah.

The original? No. The 360 was alright before Kinect, too.

The One really has nothing going for it, though.

Xbox did nothing good to push forward consoles. Kinect is a failure, 360 is a fucking piece shit with it's RROD issues, and their fucked up policies they announced at E3 just further proves how shitty M$ really is.

I can't really say Sony has been that much better either though.

Yes, because fuck Microsoft.

No, it's mainly just the leaves and aussies.

>They wanted to

I keep hearing this a lot with MS.

I'd never imagine hardware manufacturers would over reach this hard by dictating how the games should be made. I think this happen to Dragon Scale too. Seems disrespectful, so it's no surprise more people are walking away from MS.

>their fucked up policies they announced at E3 just further proves how shitty M$ really is.

the original version of how the xbone worked was better, but you wanted smallminded console baby shit.

Yet America sold the most xbones.

This was a better thread on /vint/

Of course, we like games instead of SJW movies and weebshit.

I want /vint/ back.

No one seems to recall the untold story of fucking up Japanese devs.

Those timed exclusive deals, displacing fan bases of popular franchises, and Japanese devs second guessing and trying to make their games appeal to westerners didn't really work out at all.

Only till 8th gen started did they start recovering from that, and went back to making games primarily for their own country in mind again.

Bill Gates has some girly hands.

we all do user. we all do.

>xbox
>games

>Sony

(you)

Yes because they only did 2 good halo games in 17 years and Gears is garbage. Plus they flooded the market with more dudebro memes.

You have to be a shill to think the tile cluster fuck is a good ui.

>popularized paid online
>popularized DLC
>created the hardcore gaymer market
>none of the systems have worthwhile exclusives

You know what Don Mattrick told Rare in 2009? "I remember at some point, the feedback came down from Don Mattrick I believe, and it was: 'No, just give us Wii Sports with Kinect."

>they only did 2 good halo games in 17 years
Shut yourself

>yfw this is probably stolen art of jupitar flipped on it's side with an instagram filter.

Same boat minus the whole fanboy. I preferred xbox over ps, but had both xbox/ps2 and 360/ps3. Bought the Xbox first both generations, but when I saw that e3 I started looking at ps4 and went with them. Still haven't bought an xbone and unless something big happens, the ps4 will be my last console. Didn't mind installing shit on 360 to run smoother, but getting pretty tired of installing shit just to play a damn game.

As a weeb, I appreciate their early efforts with Japan.
It didn't take off, but they gave it a good shot.

And that's why he's fired. :^)

damn, now I want a hamburger and xbox

original xbox did at least
same with some of the 360

>-1 points
Reddit being reddit indeed.

>they only did 2 good halo games in 17 years
Shoot yourself

wow they can't even circle jerk correctly.

/vint/ didn't stay up? Shame, my new board is pretty fun.

>>>/vint/44444

I will always love Xbox Uno for having all the Star Wars games of the time

>Knights of the Old Republic 1&2
>SW: Battlefront
>Republic Commando
>Jedi Knight games

God damn, those were the days, and they were so damn long ago now even though it feels like only yesterday I was sat in my childhood bedroom playing Xbox games all day long with the curtains closed. I'm so old.

1. Rekindled console wars in advertising. Including hardware comparisons.
2. Paid online subscriptions.
3. Licensed several Japanese IPs, before just buying them out entirely (Shenmue 2 and Tales of Vesperia)
4. Lack of first party titles, yet also a lack of third party titles.
5. The entire Xbox One reveal and all of the consumer/privacy unfriendly policies they wanted to strictly enforce.

Honestly, their actions in the past couple years were the only positive things that I can say about their entire history.

I have it because i had a 360 last gen. I dont know what people expect from it. Its a console that plays games. I dont think its as good as the 360 so far on its own but once BC nabs the last few 360 games I want I wont see any reason to go back to the 360. People should know microsoft saves their own games towards the end of the year.

They are literally responsible for the current state of video games, so yes fuck M$.

Mattrick did the right thing by killing the Xbox brand. 16 years on the market and Xbox couldn't produce a good series or bring brand new games other than Minecraft NFL CAlloduty hipsters dude lmao

All these leaves and aussies

>unfriendly policies

xbox liek water

Hes actually right you know

Its just that his smug nu male face and passive aggressive tone make it seem wrong

I'm american.

>Hes actually right
He was trying to make Xbox One a steam NFL machine. "Hey goys we have to update our license agreement and if you click reject you can't play offline games anymore. HAHAHA FUCK YOU GOYIM JUST CLICK ACCEPT AND #DEALWITHIT"

Last generation i had all three consoles but i played primarily on 360, but paying for online and having ads on the dashboard was unfuckingbelievable so i went ps4 this generation, i wont buy an xboxone because they have fuck all on it worth a damn and as far as i know the same shit is happening its utterly disgusting.

>Hes actually right you know

>run into money issues
>can't afford internet
>console reduced to a paperweight because always online

kill yourself you stupid faggot

Imagine saying this in today's climate, where computers are being hack to record you without much defense against it?

Our worst fears have already came true, since then.

Thats my point. That nu male and microsoft were very harsh and controlling in their tone. What they actually wanted to do originally was very similar to how steam operates. And 99.9% of people have their entertainment devices connected to the internet whenever they use it

The Xbox is a reasonably priced platform with games for the age demographic of 15 to 25. After that, you find a lot of wayward titles. The online experience is probably the best consoles have to offer with dedicated servers and a full retail priced service. PSN is free, but you run into all sorts of problems like griefing, hacking and server downtimes. Xbox doesn't deserve all the hate, but it deserved a lot of it, especially what happened after Don Mattrick said.

I mean, there's not really anything wrong with Hearthstone's success giving MS the idea of reviving Phantom Dust. Hell, with the right promotion I could actually see it working as a minor e-sport.

Thing is, Microsoft completely screwed Darkside during its development time and drove them bankrupt because they kept insisting they add more and more content to it, but weren't prepared to actually give them any more money to do it with.

It does. All of my friends and myself were huge Xbots in the 360 days. They were mostly shoters, but the Xbox 360 was a gem with its events, surprisingly fun arcade games, and multiplayer experience. I gwas gladly paying the annual fee because I was having loads of fun with it.

Now they turned it into a netflix machine, everybody's moved onto PC or PS because they had garbage PR on Xbone's launch, Gears and Halo are basically niche series now. They also treated Kinect like a jewel until it showed up in their sales that people didn't give a fuck about it, and they instead jumped onto the backwards comparability meme only to add the feature as an unfinished afterthought. And then despite all the shit-kicking they got, they still locked their games onto Windows 10.

Oh and let me tell you about Windows 10. The OS is unfinished, getting piece by piece aded with its forced updates. Everything from the Windows store is an "app," where the options are restrictive. The Windows store and Xbox app are both buggy - I've had instances of the game installing Gears 4 multiple times and seeing 4 instances of the game in my games tab. I also had to go through all sorts of cache and update fuckery to even install Gears/Halo 5 forge when they launched because of issues with the store. And then when I bought Killer Instinct definitive edition, it literally didn't work at all (didn't unlock any characters) because of a bug that was exclusive to Windows 10. The devs didn't say what the issue was, but I guarantee it was because of the Windows 10 store on MS' end.

So yeah, they butchered the Xbox brand by shitting a next-gen console with no games and bad PR. They turned their console into a watered-down PC only for people to use their no games machine as a Netflix system. And what makes it worse is that they removed the party system from Netflix in the Xbox 360 days, so it's not even a GOOD Netflix system.

>their actions in the past couple years were the only positive things
whats that, turning their cancerous gaze on pc and creating GFWL 2.0? win10 store exclusivity and UWP forced borderless fullscreen that breaks everything?

I tried to play black ops on BC today and my save just disappeared. I kept trying to open it with cloud save and deleted the local data but my campaign data just wouldnt load. I was halfway through with veteran. Hard reset it a few times and it said my save does not exist

>feels bad man

if you think this is something acceptable you are a trash human being.
Always online is the EASIEST AND MORE EFFECTIVE way of including all kinds of DRM in your games.
"Hey Microsoft I don't want to be connected to Uplay servers to play my Ubisoft game"
>You accepted always on, #dealwithit
"Hey I think your latest update included two spyware apps that I just don't want. Please allow me to go back to previous firmware.
>No can do. Always online is good for you.#Dealwithit

I was always a sony fan, Then I jumped to PC and I only care about consoles when it's about exclusives. But Xbox has some games that I want to try, my friend is selling his xbox 360 for 30 bucks, I should do it? also I should try ti hack it too?

Uh...publishers have their right to host their own drm server shit, even on your precious steam. Forced updates to continue playing online is normal practice on xbox, playstation, and nintendo and steam if you play legit. You can decline the update but you cant sign on

Good try though

>forced updates
I never took the botnet meme. Can you not disable automatic updates like all previous OS's allowed?

>Forced updates to continue playing online
The problem is that they force you to stay online to play OFFLINE you dumb neogafer. Why do you people keep coming to Sup Forums? you are not welcome here.

Always-on (DRM)
>Ubisoft decided to re-implement the DRM again for The Crew, The Division and For Honor. The Crew garnered criticism due to it being always-online in spite of having a campaign. Ubisoft later confirmed that the game would not be available offline, as they wanted to make the game a living world with multiplayer and single-player combined.
>HITMAN was later criticized to be always-online to be able to save in certain areas of levels in the game
>Xbox Play Anywhere games like ReCore, Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 have also been criticized of being required to be online to be launched and to be authenticated every 24 hours.
>Recent Denuvo-implemented games:Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

YOU OWN NOTHING
YOUR 60 DOLLAR GAME ONLY WORKS IF YOU CONNECT TO OUR SERVERS
#Dealwithit

Sure you are

You can't disable updates, only prevent it from force-restarting your machine.

Hence the point of this video:
youtube.com/watch?v=BiOnLkc3boY

Glad I never downloaded the thing. That's annoying as shit.

If you want.

You make it seem like you need to constantly stay connected and one drop of a packet would suddenly close the whole game

What it would do is just ping online to check for a connection every 24 hours and thats it. You could disconnect after that. And after that you wouldn't need to swap discs, you could use your whole library AND share it (even if you bought a physical copy) with anyone. And even then if you decided to stay offline, all that would happen is you need to change discs when you want to play something else. And no one buys a modern console now with the intention of not going online with it, making it a moot point. Ubisoft for the last few years is in the phase EA was from 2006-2012ish, where they wanted total control over everything that went on in their games and made servers and passes and drm for every single game they released. Even then, the only ubisoft shit that you should be buying in the first place is rayman

>You make it seem like
I'm not making "it seem like" anything I'm just coping and pasting what the DRM agreement says.
Also stop writing long comments with your personal opinion. I don't need to remind you this is not neogaf.

>The EULA is effective from the earlier of the date You purchase, download or use the Product, until terminated according to its terms. You and UBISOFT (or its licensors) may terminate this EULA, at any time, for any reason.

TL;DR: you need to be connected to steam, Ubisoft and Denuvo to play the game. And they can shut down the server anytime and you can't do nothing about it because you previously agreed that Ubisoft can terminate this contract at "any time, for any reason".

I don't think it's hate on my behalf. It's just apathy.

They don't really seem to care much about videogames, but their controllers make pc gaming bearable i guess.

Sure...thats a ubisoft game, where i just mentioned they want total control over everything goes on in their games.

I will reiterate one more time since this is going nowhere. Microsoft had a good idea for the original xb1 that needed tweaking, it was essentially how steam works but on consoles. But instead of polishing up their message, they pushed the kinect hard, promoted sports and media, and released a weaker console for $100 more. They spun their PR and message so bad that years later, theres still people like you (no offense of course) who have no idea on what they meant. But thats not your fault, thats their fault for bad communication and they paid dearly for it. They have spent the last 2 years trying to build up goodwill again and its been going smooth for them. I think phil spencer knows exactly what to do but these things take time. Talking to developers, getting deals, funding games, building partnerships, you cant churn out a full game in a year anymore. The scorpio reveal along with a few e3 surprises will be the first major step in fixing the damage done to xbox since 2013. Theyve survived worse and are making more money now than they did with the xbox and i dont think they are ready to give up yet without really battling with sony.

@372681139
>Sure...thats a ubisoft game
Deus Ex, Nier Automata, RE7...
>But instead of polishing up their message
Like
>Hey goyim it's good for you.

Microsoft wanted you to install all kinds of spyware with the excuse of "Always line because it's 2013 xD, get with the times!"

>b-but it's just online authentication it's fucking 2013 everyone has internet access! If you don't like the idea of always on just get Xbox 360!
It's not just authentication.

>@372681139

Man, Sup Forums and memes have melted your mind. Turn off the screen and go on a nice mid day or midnight walk, depending where you are. Im talking with a vitriolic underage console warrior whose bored on spring break, lame

Rule #3: Don't give (You) to neogafers.

>mfw people unironically want Microsoft to pull out despite how important they are for gaming in general

>As long as they market their ideas with language tricks to make it seem like they are in you side....

Nothing Sup Forums constantly shits on really deserves the hate (except maybe MAE). Sup Forums loves to defecate on popular things and as soon as they are critically acclaimed, people get their anuses ready.

That being said, xbone is not a bad console by any means, but microsoft has clearly given up on it. The “kek no gaems“ meme is literally true for it, and it's simply to late to catch on.

Yes and no. Yes because of that stunt they tried to pull in the beginning of this generation. No in the sense, they tried to make up for that, and improve from that incident, which I'll give them credit for. If they can keep it up, then maybe overall opinion may change.

>not getting any game support for your console

>The Xbox doesn't deserve the hate.

Microsoft entering the console marker is the worst thing thats ever happened to gaming as a whole

>Accuse other person to "Making it seem"
>Can't refute argument
T-take a walk dude!

Playstation is just suprior thats all to it.

It's just a matter of PR communication dude! They had great ideas but it was not properly marketed.
As long as they use language tricks it's fine. They are in your side
Stop being so hateful. Go for a walk. You need fresh air. You have to consider Microsoft hires the best people.
