In theory, I'm so impressed with the Nintendo Switch as a piece of hardware that it's hard for me to imagine going back to another console again. The concept of having console quality games on a handheld that you can bring anywhere, the fact that it's lightweight and doesn't overheat, the ease of switching from handheld to TV and vice-versa, the fact that you can resume a game from sleep mode within seconds, it's all fantastic.
The problem is that there's no way in hell that Nintendo will deliver a good library of games, so it's going to just be a horrendous waste of potential.
>there's no way in hell that Nintendo will deliver a good library of games
Year 1 looks so promising though.
Sure there are some ports (Zelda BotW and MK8), but there's also a fair amount of interesting sequels and new games (ARMS, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, Octopath Traveller).
I'm sure there'll be more Holiday 2017 Switch games as well as it'd be foolish to only have Mario Odyssey for Holiday 2017.
Nathaniel Peterson
>I'm sure there'll be more Holiday 2017 Switch games as well as it'd be foolish to only have Mario Odyssey for Holiday 2017.
Nintendo had exactly two games for Wii U in the entirety of 2016 so it's not out of the question.
Levi Russell
>Nintendo had exactly two games for Wii U in the entirety of 2016 3 if you count Atlus's Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.
Those dev teams surely have been up to something since their lackluster releases of spinoffs back in 2015 and Retro not having any announcements since releasing DKC Tropical Freeze in 2014.
Elijah Perry
The PSP, Vita, DS, 3DS, Nomad, Game gear, and every Gameboy had "console quality games".
What that really means is they have quality games. The Switch is doing what the Vita tried without considering playing games on the go often benefits from specific game design.
Aiden Diaz
Them 7th gen tier graphics though. >but it fit in my man purse Yeah have fun looking like an autismo in public.
Eli Perry
>but it fit in my man purse
So I throw it in my backpack.
Problem, user?
Also IMO we've been seeing diminishing returns on graphics since Gen 7 to be quite honest.
Eli Wright
>console quality games on a handheld What do people mean when they say this? It's comparable to the 360/PS3, which came out more than 10 years ago.
It's like saying the GBA had "console quality games" since it was comparable to the SNES in graphical fidelity.
The Switch is very impressive for a handheld, but it's literally a decade behind the current gen of home consoles.
Isaiah Campbell
Being twice as powerful as the Wii U in handheld mode is not "comparable to the 360/PS3" you disingenuous cunt.
Isaiah Flores
>diminishing returns on graphics since Gen 7 t. console fag
Oliver King
>Being twice as powerful as the Wii U in handheld mode Do you have a single fact to back that up?
Carter King
>twice as powerful as the Wii U
That's being more than a little generous.
Kayden Martinez
Honestly, I'll keep an open mind with Nintendo 1st party; the Wii U had a niche library of strong games that I thoroughly enjoyed.
What I'm more interested in are the amount of 3rd party developers - that aren't shit indie devs - that are taking interest in the Switch. Previous companies that truthfully paid no mind to the Wii U.
With smaller entries like Xenoverse 2 (Bamco was pretty limited on the Wii U), to older games but games Nintendo probably needs to cash in on other crowds like Skyrim (it's old as fuck guys, I know..)
Even Ed Boon tweets about the system which gets my hopes up for Injustice.
There was also the rumour that Bamco was going to do a Souls collection for the Switch, or at the very least the complete edition of 3.
Noah Gray
How do you feel about the fact that the switch is capable of turning your TV on and switching inputs whenever it powers on?
Isaac Parker
Speaking on the perspective of consoles.
I own a pretty decent PC and like Switch in a design standpoint like OP (take it out as a portable, put it on stand for tabletop gameplay if needed for local co-op anywhere, plug into stand for TV mode).
It's certainly proving entertaining for me to be able to play all those Neo Geo arcade fighters on the go on top of Bomberman, Zelda and Voez.
Pic related.
Charles Anderson
>impressed with the Nintendo Switch as a piece of hardware
How? How the fuck, OP? Explain. It doesn't bring anything new to the table. It's literally a tablet with a restricted USB port.
>console quality games on a handheld
Been there, done that. It's ultimately futile because the situations where you have enough time to sit down and play for a while aren't that common.
>the ease of switching from handheld to TV
You will be able to do that with most any device that runs USB 3.1. Even cheap smartphones will have that functionality in the future.
Kevin Smith
So basically you realized that the vita was a great idea once a nintendo logo was slapped on. Sounds like standard toddler behaviour.
Noah King
Is Bomberman R any good, though? I heard it's just like a bad anime, but yet I'd love to be able to play couch co-op Bomberman on the go
Chase Rogers
>It doesn't bring anything new to the table
yeah ok
Leo Thomas
>So basically you realized that the vita was a great idea
Too bad it got that functionality stripped from launch in order to be sold as another product later down the line eh?
At least the Switch will have 1st party support down the line, unlike Sony abandoning it.
Jaxon Smith
not him but I do have a Vita user and now also own a switch.
Vita and 3DS aren't going to last forever Nip devs are going to need a platform to move on to Obviously mobile exists, but the devs who actually like games will want to put their games on a dedicated device Unless Sony announces a Vita successor, Switch is the only option
Owen Jones
The Vita was a good idea as a piece of hardware, it just didn't have anything besides weeb trash.
Jaxon Parker
The 3D control in top down camera angle make it weird to get used to.
It's like playing Bomberman 64 on Super Bomberman's map design.
Story Mode is plenty difficult if you're interested in a challenge (I've been forced to play Easy Mode just to complete worlds) and it supports co-op.
Multiplayer Mode has both local and online multiplayer which is pretty nice if you wanted the multiplayer fix.
Too bad the extra maps that come with the game require currency that you earn by winning in multiplayer or single player clears to unlock (heavy costs).
They are updating the game with free DLC maps and characters though so that's very nice to see and they've been updating it to make controls much tighter so it does have life to it beyond day 1.
Nicholas Cook
I plan on getting a Switch on summer, so I'm glad to hear that. Thanks, user.
Connor Watson
>How Because it is the first home console in the history of home consoles to bridge the gap with handheld devices?
Because it's more powerful than a Wii U in handheld mode, making it the most powerful dedicated gaming, as in non-phone, phablet or tablet platform on the market.
Because the menu systems and UI are sleek, intuitive and uncluttered, unlike the XboxOne and PS4.
Because each Joy-con feels remarkkably sturdy, and both last 20hours a piece, charging with the docked system - no need for cables.
Because of simple things we take for granted, like a compartment to house the cables to reduce the clutter.
Because despite our current market, the use of mSD cards is forward thinking.
And because in the wake of the current trend of bullshit spewing streaming services, shitty as sin internet browsers, and any other non-vidya related feature you can think of, Nintendo prides itself on just being a fucking video game console. I don't need a "media entertainment center" like the PS4 and XB1 like to advertise themselves as.
>even cheap smartphones will have that functionality in the future
Okay? We're talking about now, and you not only asked what it brings to the table but you follow up with a shrug claiming others will follow.
Isaac Adams
I'm going to take a guess and say that third parties will take an interest if the sales keep up and we'll probably start seeing some big ports/Switch versions of big third-party games within a year or two.
I predict it will be the opposite of the Wii U where it started with decent third-party support which was then swiftly dropped once the system sold like donkey balls.
Nicholas Gray
>The problem is that there's no way in hell that Nintendo will deliver a good library of games Said the sony fanboy nervously for the 100th time
Christopher Edwards
No, Its a pretty shit idea overall. If I'm out I'm going to be on my phone or socialising Trekking around whit a huge ass Switch with me is going to be a pain The fucker makes sure to let everyone know you have it in your pocket and carrying it in a backpack makes me wonder why I didn't just bring a Laptop. As a portable gaming system its pretty subpar, I can emulate a ton of games on my phone.
If I'm going to be out of the country for a few days I'll bring my laptop and play shit on that. The Switch falls into a really awarked place between the two, Without googling it I might even be tempted to say my phone is, on paper at least, more powerful than the Switch.
Thats just the portable side, As a "console" the thing is woefully under powered. I hope you like watered down games or exclusives; Because that's all you're getting.
Connor Rogers
That's the thing though, I feel like they already have shown interest in the system, and are probably in the midst of porting to test the waters.
Even upcoming projects like Bloodstained not only quickly updated to include the Switch as a platform, but offer a physical release for it as well.
That souls rumour actually said Bamco has a working DS3 running on the Switch that they feel comfortable with, but haven't given any indication as to an actual release.
Blake Stewart
>more powerful than the Switch
You'd be an idiot.
Noah Turner
>buying a console for horsepower
Adrian Russell
>Because it is the first home console in the history of home consoles to bridge the gap with handheld devices? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_Nomad
James Phillips
>not waiting for ti series >Meh cpu and ram Why though
Austin Wilson
>Paying more for less horsepower and nogames.
Wow.
Camden Roberts
>shrug claiming others will follow
It's not that, you buffoon. The point is that Switch has nothing that makes it stand out, except for the obvious notion that it only runs games. Which you consider an advantage, but it actually is a glaring weakness in many people's minds.
Cooper Brooks
$300 wasted, fuck.
Julian Wood
Im paying for the unique form factor, Nintendo First parties and indie games
Chase Gray
You said it was the first to bridge the gap, Its isn't.
Charles Gomez
Not him but Wii U GPU is almost 10 yrs old now
Michael Jenkins
I know, I know. Just... delete this...
Anthony Brown
I'm starting to feel kinda sorry for Switch owners. I'm so glad the Wii U opened my eyes to how shitty Nintendo is.
Josiah Moore
>I'm so impressed with the Nintendo Switch as a piece of hardware > there's no way in hell that Nintendo will deliver a good library of games This is so ass-backwards that I shit out of my mouth now. Thanks OP.
Brayden Reyes
Also the GPD Win.
Christian Williams
>Im paying for the unique form factor, Nintendo First parties
Weak reasons, but valid. Considering Nintendo first parties won't be here until Winter, what else do y-
>and indie games
Nope you're a full blown queer.
Jacob Campbell
But user, Nintendo has always offered grad A top class hardware just never had the softwear to capitalise on it. Don't you remember the Wii? While PS3 could hardly play at 30fps the Wii was a staggering 480p!
Ayden Flores
You're the autist that's obsessing over hardware specs, you fucking dense retard.
Kevin White
I know right? Who the fuck cares about the hardware inside a piece of fucking hardware, you goddamn fucking moron?
Thomas Martin
>Weak reasons
why?
>muh indies are all shit meme lol
Landon Powell
>>the ease of scratching the screen when trying to use it with your television.
