What are some games that require the player to use more than basic arithmetic to make progress?
What are some games that require the player to use more than basic arithmetic to make progress?
What do you mean? Games with complex puzzles or games with literally mathematics?
None because anyone who understands higher math and enjoys higher math realizes that gamification will only dull the thrill of maths
Resonance of Fate?
>the thrill of maths
None. I can solve derivatives using substitution or solve partial derivatives any time I want. That's not fun and there's no need to buy a game to do that. People buy games to do things they can't do in real life like swing a fist so hard that the air knocks someone back.
Persona Q had something with a math puzzle in the horror dungeon thing, I can't remember exactly what it was though.
What is csch?
>ywn know the joy of doing a real analysis assignment coked out on adderall
I feel sorry for you
>Games with complex puzzles or games with literally mathematics?
Both I guess, anything that requires the player on his part to do some sort of calculating
every game with a weapon that has an arc has you doing complex calculations on the fly
hyperbolic cosecant you fucking non calculus learned brainlet
I suspect there are very few of such games, because it simply wouldn't sell well.
Most gamers don't want to deal with math, if they did, they'd take a book and do some exercises instead.
Maybe you can find some educational games, but they may not be fun at all.
Knowledge of trivial trigonometric functions is nothing to be boast about. Be nice to your friends on Sup Forums or go back to your homework instead.
>csch^-1
wouldn't that just be sinh? lmao
>that pic
Who the fuck cares about shit like this?
I lost interest in math the second they added letters
Spacechem
Do you think what's "exciting" about math is a bunch of differentiable functions being differentiated and a bunch of integrable being integrated?? Wow, let me guess, engineer?
Why would know about good math if you know no mathematics at all? Your image is just arithmetic as well... Get rekt biatch
>I lost interest in math the second they added letters
So you never did any math past the 5th grade?
But I know something he doesn't know. An opportunity to act superior arose. I dont think Ive actually used the hyperbolic functions a single time in my life
>csch
>trigonometric
you see them more in quantum physics, if you choose to pursue that
Be nice of your mom will lock your video games in a closet for weekend!
This is not how we raised you, don't disappoint us.
factorio, you can have hours and hours and hours in, if you don't learn the ratios and placements, you're gonna have a bad time.
>I admit I'm stupid the post
American education system boys.
>triple integrals
jesus fuck I think not even that chinese guy Tao can solve these. I heard it automatically earns you a PhD.
Truely Nintendogaf here, it seems.
The harder maths gets the better it is you fucking pleb
It's just solving 3 integrals in a row, what are you on about?
what is your favorite game user?

Haha, boys...
As soon as words and letter come in, they run away! :)

I remember doing my dissertation on exterior algebra though.
KSP with loads of sick mawds to make it fun.

i don't speak about something i don't know. neither should you, kiddo.
are you baiting or are americans arel really this retarded?

>enter uni
>attend the business school at my uni
>taking shit like finite math and brief """calculus"""
I envy you STEM majors and Engineers. This shit is too easy, and I'll always be mathematically inferior to you bois. Feelsbadman
...
Same here.
I don't remember how to do trigonometric integrals or Euler substitutions, even though I was dealing with theory of stochastic integrals and Lebesgue integrals all the time back then.
so, do Math majors get pussy or nah
I once calculated what item was more effective to buy in League of Legends for some build.
Expected values and shit.
We are generally closer to the autism spectrum than being a normalfag.
everyone on Sup Forums can solve this
Really liked this puzzle.
It's also cool that it's randomized.
>Boston University
>male

what the fuck is this shit
top fucking kek, haven't seen that one. Thanks.
B^U
Is this loss?
Have a subtler one
What does this even compute?
It computes your Sup Forums age
It would compute a baby, but it doesn't because of an error.
Using ^-1 for arcfunctions is degenerate. American standarts are ruining mathematics.
>Using ^-1 for arcfunctions is degenerate.
How so? Does it have less degrees of freedom than other cases?
Elegant.
Schizm
>being this stupid
Because that is ambiguous with exponentiation you dunce. People who use -1 superscript for arc instead of writing out arc are lazy fucks.
>omega
Clever
I hate autismos in general. Had to pair up with one for a presentation, and the retard rambles on about inane garbage whilst laughing at his terrible jokes.
>American standards
It's not an American thing mate
Also why would you use a power of minus one for say 1/sin(x) when you can just say cosec(x).
It's nonsense, but:
>B^U
Most likely standard power on numbers. I don't expect this to be some obscure set characteristic. Or perhaps?
Equals
>lambda
Ceiling of lambda, that is smallest integer greater or equal to lambda
>ro
ro over flat male sign. This one is bullshit, I'm pretty sure.
>pq
Variance of Bernoulli distribution
>Omega
Binomial coefficient. "Omega choose Empty Set". It doesn't mean anything.
Also, the vertical lines are most likely the sign of "divides", e.g. "pq divides binomial coeff."
Any other power is written as subscript over the function. If you are working with trig or hyp functions of various powers, dividing and multiplying them by each other, there is no reason that in this single case a -1 superscript should mean a function reversal. Arc works perfectly well and brings no ambiguity.
Severely underrated.
DotA 2.
>he thinks math uses actual NUMBERS
not my fault if that notation is shit
arcsec is the notation we use over here
>the joy of doing real analysis
Real Analysis is something you do once as a required pilgrimage, unless you want to jerk off to yourself
is this loss?
GO USA
I LOVE USAAAAA FREEDOM USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA
It's very easy the second time around. And there's nothing wrong with rehearsing stuff you might have forgotten.
Most of the math that counts does eventually have to come down to actual numbers. Formula's are usually just there to place hold until you have numbers because then you can change things relative to each other rather than redoing everything. In most cases if you had a fuck lot of time you could use regular numbers.
It would make my 3D designing a bitch though, but you can do it.
Job
Its a weird grinding game full of rules that make no sense and very shit progression.
Base 10 for DSi?
>Most of the math that counts
Well obviously if one is counting one has to use the set of natural numbers
I spent like 3 hours once trying to prove that getting 3 maelstroms on Riki was objectively more damage and better value then battlefury + daedelus during his ultimate in dota.
It was
Using variables is when math became fucking fun, what the fuck are you on?
The vertical lines aren't divides, for that you use "/".
In conventional math syntax there's no binary transformation that is defined with the symbol "|".
At first loss was shitposting.
Then it became art.
Now its a science.
Could somebody explain the middle line?
It's an integration over three variables but there's no function?
These kinds of things are usually quick to prove with a numerical simulation of tons of attacks. Can't be arsed to prove them analytically on paper.
I swear to christ, this goddamn board
The function is just a constant, 1. You could encounter such a triple integral when calculating the volume of some object with defined boundaries.
This
>tfw fell for the STEM meme
I've been out of school for years and I hardly remember anything about calculus or differential equations. All the dumb dumbs in high school who whined about never having to use this crap outside of school were right. I could have studied something like history or literature and enjoyed myself, and actually enriched myself as a person. I could have learned Japanese and not be at the mercy of fan translators and localization companies.
Ah hadn't thought of that, thanks.
>studying history
Just read Wikipedia you dumb nigger.
>studying literature
Just read books you dumb nigger.
>tfw finished university calculus years ago and can no longer shit post about it since i dont remember anything except basic derivatives and integrals.
I know I can still do all those things, it's just that I'm not a student anymore, and I'm employed full-time. I don't have access to the same level of resources a student would, and frankly, I don't have the time.
Maths is just about learning methods and the deeper you go into it the questions jsut get longer and more soul crushing
>there's nothing wrong with rehearsing stuff you might have forgotten
Yeah, if it's useful. Real analysis is useful 'the first time round' for learning how to construct a proof, but the actual content is just a rite of passage- seeing the core of mathematics derived properly. It's the mathematical equivalent of a barber showing you the back of your head.
This
>ywn know the joy of doing a real analysis assignment coked out on adderall
is exactly the same as somebody integrating tan(x) and thinking they're maxing out the IQ curve, but just a few years down the line.
>be me
>2 years into calculus courses, at intro to diff eq
>decide to change major to computer science
>only math class required is discrete math
It stings a little
how old are you? we started using letters in elementary school senpai way before algebra in middle school
I'm finishing up a masters in math right now and I still have no fucking clue what this is. It's obviously something from statistics but the empty set symbol and sideways circle arrow thing just make this look comically strange
