Well, I wasted my day trying to play one of my favorite games and getting no where. Fucking 10/10 world we live in. Fucking shit.

It is the only major cons with PC is that older titles become very hard to play
I'm playing DA:O on my girls bone becuase of that shit. Not as agreeable in controls and no mods but at least I can enjoy it all the same.

Don't get me wrong, I love PC gaming. It just annoys me that I can play games from the 90's perfectly fine without any issues, but I can't play this because of stupid shit. I understand why too, but it doesn't make it any better. Honestly this is all I was looking forward to today since it's my only day off this week.

Speaking of making old shit work on new PCs how do I fix Max Payne's cutscene sound issues? Already tried installing the patch (v1.02) multiple times and it didn't do anything. Didn't work on Win7 and isn't working on Win10 now.

>Not as agreeable in controls and no mods but at least I can enjoy it all the same.
Didn't that change the gameplay of the game?

Did you check the PCGamingWiki yet?

>checks it out
>links to same patch (version was 1.12 actually)
>reeeeeeeee
There was an alternate one though I'll see if it works

Yes/no
You have only 6 quick keys with a switch out option for 6 more and your camera angle is behind rather than overhead. It works the exact same outside of that it's just hard to play a mage that isn't a AW with a bunch of sustain spells.

>windows 10
There's your problem. Dual boot W7.

Console versions sometimes remove or add certain enemies to actually make the game easier because the combat is a clusterfuck there.

Maybe LAA patch it?

Aside from that I'm not sure.

yeah user I had the same problem with oblivion, it took me a week and a half of on/off fixes to get it working.

Windows 10 is really terrible, gaming is going to shit, the world is falling into the toilet again, why is everything getting worse.

Not to mention there are less weapon textures and models in the game, same with armor. Doesn't affect gameplay but it's unfortunate that so many weapons look exactly the same.

So far it seems 1 for 1 just weird camera angles and having to get use to the UI which is very diffrent

This is why console gaming is relevant. Sometimes I don't fucking care how much more detail the grass has or if the girl's hair is more life-like. I got shit to do and don't want to waste what little free-time I have trying to figure out why my game won't work. I remember when Fallout 4 came out and I pirated it just to make sure it would work on my AMD card. Not even the fucking compass worked (game crashed every few min). Someone even made a patch online for the compass.

Fuck that shit. Got it for PS4, dealt with LONG load times. Moved on with my life.

It's rather strange so many sites offer these old games but do nothing to tweek them to work on newer systems. More so with EA here since they offer this game in a monthly service plan.

I'm pretty sure that the armor and clothes on the characters are low res while the faces look like the PC higher settings. Feels weird looking at them.

no sympathy for idiots using win10

you don't miss out on anything
game is terrible compared to literally everything Bioware shat out earlier

GoG usually have their own versions of games tweaked to work on newer OS'

It's kinda fuck out how most PC games have such a roller coaster of operating issues. Nier Auto is just starting to get huge praise but that's thanks to it being patch up to where it's playable.
We have seen plie of games in the last two years that have just been garbage at launch with no effort in optimization.

To me it's not worth it but I have never cared how clean/good a game looks past a certain point. Ps2 graphics 30fps and up is about my bar in terms of what I need to enjoy the game. Don't get me wrong it's fucking beautiful when it all works but when it's a crap shoot if it will all work it's just discouraging.

Good on them. I hope by space magic they can get more of these 2007~2010 titles soon so that can happen to them too.

I was thinking that earlier, they keep plugging it on sales and everything, and I assume it works because most people don't look this shit up before they buy/sign up. It's a shame.

I don't know, I haven't played on console in a long time but I wouldn't doubt that to be honest.

Console gaming is definitely relevant in this regard, it's just a shame to me because, especially with this game the mouse and keyboard is ten times better. Not to mention there are mods that improve the game without altering it in any meaningful way.

Look man, I loved Bioware but I have to disagree with this entire post. Jade Empire is one of my favorite games, but Dragon Age is better. Dragon Age: Origins is the last game of old Bioware, and it's a great game.

I agree about Dragon Age. It was the last game that gave you:
The chance to out right murder 6 of your followers if you provoke them right.
The chance to just run with only a team as low as two(thee if nonmage human) with no other followers
6 diffrent hour+ long Origion stories
That all had call backs in the main game and DLCs
4 major endings with 10+ variants on each ending due to your actions
An actual army to command.
Followers that don't just suck your dick and you actaully have to put work into them liking you (unless you have the bullshit gifts dlc)

I mean fuck Mass Effect 1 barley had anything in comparison but at the time people wink at it becuase we all thought 2 and 3 would make up that short coming.

IIRC you don't even need to select party members. You can run the entire game solo but then less enemies are spawned and there's more XP and loot.

You are correct sir and was generally the go to play style for mages becuase you could then just unleash the elements without fear of melting your team.

>You can run the entire game solo but then less enemies are spawned and there's more XP and loot.
The game actually accounts for that?

Yes it does, I never actually tried doing it myself though. Should be nice with an Arcane Warrior death machine/tank hybrid.

Try running in winXP compatibility mode.

I feel your pain OP. I'm trying to get Dungeon Siege working on a modern system and have had zero luck.

It does. Back in the day Bioware knew what it was doing. Now it's run by people who only think about sales, and not making good games.

I'm sorry user, honestly at this point I'm debating picking up an older laptop or some shit for cheap just to be able to play my favorite older games.

>trying to play SH2 on PC

Fuck it

kek this accurate

>windows 10
why anyone use this shit?

well why in the fuck would you constantly copy the game files anyway, what a pointles endeavour.

I backup games on external hard drives. Almost all of them need to be run as admin to create or change other files (save your game), so it would've been convenient.

>I backup games on external hard drives
for what purpose?

user, you are retarded

Why wouldn't I?
Yeah I've gathered that.

>windows 10

MS entire pitch to gamers is that DX12 was going to make every game somehow run balls out and W10 was going to have the more compatibility between games then any version of Windows before. And what did they deliver?
The number one complaint i see on Steam is that "X game doesn't work on Windows 10" How long has it been out and they STILL haven't even tried to fix this shit? They just dump it all into the game publishers lap and walk off.
Anyone who fell for the Windows 10 meme for gaming and still uses it deserves no mercy for their stone fuck stupidity.
I understand giving it a try when it first launched, hell, i did but after months of nothing but endless crashing i took the hint and limped back to 8.1, even that sad pile of crap runs better then 10.
It's no small wonder that even despite MS almost forcing W10 down peoples throats less then 25% of people have made the switch and every month that number gets smaller as people go back to whatever they were using before.

Why the fuck would you backup a game when if anything goes wrong you can just reinstall?

Why didnt you just backup the savegames like a normal human being.

I keep a backup of all of my moddable games on a separate drive as well. If you do allot of modding it helps to keep a virgin copy handy incase you brick it and need to do a fresh install.

>Why the fuck would you backup a game when if anything goes wrong you can just reinstall?

Downloading the same game takes much longer then just dragging a copy from one drive to the other. It saves time, bandwidth, and it can be done offline.

I set automated backups of moddable games for each iteration they go through. If one new mod fucks it all up, I can just easily revert.

plus it's way easier which sucks

That's when you play the worse class and go from there.

>re-download
>oh fuck it's four isos
>mount each one and install
>fucking keygen I guess
>which No-CD am I supposed to use?
>have to install the unofficial patch
>got to find essential mods to make game not broken
>broken download links
>repeat every time

or

>do all of that one time
>freearc game install
>copy to external drive
>extract to any machine I want to play the game on when I want to play it
>and it just werks

sword and board warrior?

Two handed is the absolute hardest to play. You can case a good amount of dps built right but you are just fuck with health and stamina costs

gog.com/game/dragon_age_origins

Buy it on sale and just pirate it inbetween

Is it confirmed to work on WIndows 10 with no issues?

> it's a windows 10 issue
This is the default problem with everything.

> less then 25% of people have made the switch
More than 2/3rds of windows users switched to 10 at some point, but it is not clear how many of those were voluntary, or how many changed back.

What's wrong with it?
I have a physical copy of it and it still runs fine on my current rig

Did you just pull a "work on my machine" stupidity? Here's your (you)

Windows 10 not even once.

Windows 10 reduced the bloat (somewhat) by dropping legacy stuff. You need to download those.

Not OP, and I'm sorry but I'm a bit confused, what do you mean?

Some shit Windows 10 needs to perfectly run a game doesn't come with it. Trying to track a specific dll version is a pain in the ass though. Just grab the GoG version, it's a "fixed" version by just straight up making the game tap into the legacy provided inside the executable or in the installation folder. That, removing DRM or running on an emulator (DOS) is how GoG makes old games work.

Fucking awesome. Thanks user. Gonna have to pick that up in the future. GoG is honestly a god send.

>this is the power of PC

I'm actually amazed it took someone this long to post this if I'm being honest.
