Yooka-laylee

>WE WANT COLLECTATHONS AND 90's STYLE PLATFORMERS AGAIN!

*company releases a game that is exactly that*

>THE GAME SUCKS, IT'S TOO MUCH LIKE THE COLLECTATHONS AND 90's PLATFORMERS!

Can you ever please people?

But YL is exactly what I want and the only people bitching are those that didn't want that and are just looking for the next Tortanic.

Person A: "I want collectathons and 90's style platformers again!"
Person B: "I don't want collectathons and 90's style platformers again!"

FUCKING HYPORCRITES

This was my thought exactly. A friend of mine was telling me about how shit it was for that exact reason and I was like "but that's exactly what they promised since the kickstarter, what the fuck were you hoping for?" I don't fucking get it.

> Implying they are the same people

Person A: "I want collectathons and 90's style platformers again because I want to fit in!"
Person A: "I don't want collectathons and 90's style platformers again!"

fixed

What they want is innovation in the same style of 90's platformers. They don't want a carbon copy of it.

The majority of the people that requested a game like that are people with false senses of nostalgia. They are the kind of people that share memes and "remember the 90s?" stuff on facebook.

That said, I think a new game in the genre would be nice if it was done well, which Yooka-Laylee is not.

you can't

The difference is that they wanted a good one, not a recreation of the generic budget collectathons that padded the N64 library.

I guess people expected a collectathon that was like the games in the 90's, but improved upon.
It's been nearly 20years now and we got a lot higher standard on games, like there's no excuse to use the shitty old camera system when you can do a lot better today.

People were not expecting a direct clone from a 20year old game, they expected a game that is like those game but with gameplay of today's standard

>because I want to fit in
Nobody who likes Collectathon pltformers is in any "in" crowd.

Solution: Make a collectathon and 90s style platformer that isn't shit.

Better solution:
Stop having shit taste.

>Dr. Pus

The problem is that only people of group B reviewed this game more or less.

The amount of reviews I've seen that had some kind of "We have moved past old game design like this, it's 2017 now" is astounding to me given that is exactly what they are going for.

No one who backed this wanted something new and innovative. They WANT a game that is just like Banjo and Kazooie.

>Only people who will like the game should review it
Sorry sweetie, that's not how reviews work, this is not the timeline that EA won

Wouldn't know since I'm not a sperglord who liked games where you autistically collect things. Are these also the people that like achievements for doing arbitrary shit? At least make it mechanically challenging, or have interesting world design, or something. It might have worked for kids who are retarded enough to feel accomplishment for jumping across a pitfall, but those people have probably completed shit like Dark Souls by now. In any case, these people are stupid and don't know what they want, as indicated by their requests to "just make it better!"

While I and everyone else would have definitely preferred that to what we got, the point is that it's just not what was promised and it's what everyone feels entitled to. People are trying to get Kickstarter refunds for it.

We DID want a collectathon platformer, we just wanted it to be good. It's missing the charm and originality that would make such a game fun/rewarding to play

FUCKING LIBERALS MAN

even a carbon copy could work if the characters and environments were as memorable and interesting as Banjo

Looks like its exactly what I wanted and from playing the toybox demo I think I'm going to enjoy it.

Its supposed to be a new Banjo and if thats all it is I'll be happy with it.

Don't fuck with jontron.

You think it lives up to its predecessors though?

Meh, even in spite of this it still got decent reviews. Game is basically confirmed as a decent (though not perfect) nostalgia romp for people who still enjoy collectathons today.

>no one ever wants things

Its not that bad a pun desu. It and Trouser Snake are very 90s

You're right. We should get my grandma who's never played a videogame in her fucking life and despises them... to review videogames /s

Surely there has to be a middle ground between "I don't know much about this genre and generally don't like it and aren't good at it" vs "OMG I BACKED YOOKA LAYLEE SO EXCITED".

Now, that being said, I feel the majority of the reviews were fair (even the not so great ones). There's only a few that stand out as being done by morons or the score doesn't match the review/is an outlier.

Person B had no business playing yookaLaylee then. Thats all the game was ever advertised as and is what it prides itself on being. Its what the game is meant to be merited around.

If you feel jaded against the genre then you have no place playing it, let alone criticizing it. Its a literal admission of negative bias.

If faggots want to play Banjo then go fucking play Banjo. Yooka should not exist.

this to be honest family.

>I think a new game in the genre would be nice if it was done well, which Yooka-Laylee is not.
It's physically impossible to do a collectathon well.

>>WE WANT COLLECTATHONS AND 90's STYLE PLATFORMERS AGAIN!
More like
>WE WANT A PROPER BANJO THREEIE

Yooka and Laylee aren't likable at all and don't play off eachother's personalities like Banjo and Kazooie do, making the dialog not as fun to read.

Not to mention people wanted it to take after Kazooie, not Tooie

>Kazooie
>Reasonable sized worlds but every corner has something to see and do

>Tooie
>fucking huge-ass world, mostly barren with warp points so you don't have to trek between everywhere.

Yooka-Laylee's has Tooie's problem of giant, barren worlds except they didn't even put in warp points to make getting around them quicker. The characters also have no charm in the slightest.

Is this game cracked yet?

This desu senpai

>I haven't played the game yet know everything about the game

Don't tell me you ctually get all your opinions from reviewers

Disgrace to the Banjo Kazooie name. It's like it's made by a Chinese company.

There is video footage of most of the game available online...

> i want 90s and collectathons with platforming
>gives you a way too open world with shit way too spread out with terrible framerate and none of the charm

They didnt deliver what people wanted. If the spaces were smaller and the framerate didnt blow so bad and if it was like 20 bucks. People would be totes happy with 90s nostalgia with collectathons

>exactly that
>with worse everything

>all this damage control

What the fuck is happening

Sup Forums invasion

People who shilled for the game all this time can't accept defeat

I want to fuck that thing

Sup Forums likes this game?

I'm pleased with what reviews said desu. Plan on buying a copy and another for a friend.

top notch character design lads

People are just realizing that nostalgia tricked them (yet again) and that those types of games were never actually good to begin with.

When will her game be out?
Will she make her debut?

youtube.com/watch?v=2c1iSpk3u1A

It looks like one of those old 3D emoji pack malware ads you'd see on MySpace

>Can you ever please people
Yes, this is 100% what I wanted.

>5 days before official release
>everyone already made up their mind about the game
Jesus christ you gits at least wait a bit to pirate the game and try it out before you decide to take a steaming shit on it. From where are you people getting your opinions from, Journalists?

Did you play through Mass Effect Andromeda when it came out too?

...

Sounds to me more like Sup Forums can't stop shilling that the game is bad. Most reviews talk good about the game itself but criticize the performance and camera. People that backed it will likely enjoy it.

"2017". No actual date given. So that means it could still go into 2018 somehow.

Pretty shit comparison

Things i don't like
-the character design
-the sound design is bland
-the collectables are lame
-casino world
-the visual effects are unimpressive and poorly done

maybe this list will change when i get my hands on it, but I don't have much faith from all the videos I've watched

Likely it will. Banjo's character design is pretty shit but the game was charming enough for me to like them.

>From where are you people getting your opinions from

the 4 videos they've shown of different worlds

is the level design as sterile and bland as I hear?

How so?

Out of all the levels i've seen, which are three of them, the casino one looked like garbage. I liked what I saw from the grass and ice ones.

I didn't, but I've played through mass effect 2, 3, and a bit of dragon age 2 and inquisition until I got nauseous. My interest in the game is nonexistent based on what I can extrapolate from the quality of the others. This studio is completely green and has no track record, why the fuck would I listen to what "gaming journalists" say about it?

No more than Banjo Kazooie or Tooie. Four of the Five worlds are great.

Whose saying that? Most have complained only about the casino world beign bland

People wanted a banjo game funded by a multi billion dollar company. They got a crowdfunded banjo game instead.

They're all like that, though. Too spread out, no charm, no density. Generic "ice" level, jungle level, swamp level, space level and if course the garbage casino

Quite literally every post trying to shit on the game only ever talks about the Casino level. And they only talk about the 1/6th(?) of the level that they saw.

It's been that way since the Kickstarter opened user. Not everyone is a fan of 90's platformers. I remember there was plenty of people who didn't like the look of it along with the people that loved it. That explains why you have reviewers that can't stand it. This type of game isn't for everybody. If you backed it they gave you exactly what you wanted. I'm looking forward to it next week.

>*company releases a game that is exactly that*
>It's fucking shit with a crappy camera and controls, uninspired world that's way too big for its own good, shitty characters and unremarkable music
>"YOU DON'T HAVE ANY RIGHT TO COMPLAIN WE GAVE YOU EXACTLY WHAT YOU ASKED FOR!"
Oh and taking out JonTron was a fucking death sentence for this shit. At least then they would have someone to pander to.

Way to fucking go.

...

>Excited about YL
>Find out about this other collectathon game too
>Years lookin pretty good so far, collectathons might come back in style.

Month later
>Sup Forums storms in after jontrons gibberish gets removed.
>Crossposters and Jontron fans can't stop themselves from brainlessly shitting on the game.
>Constant shitflinging between them and the people upset about the crossposters and jontron fans brainlessly shitting on the game and having off topic political discussions.
>Discussion about it is and forever will be next to impossible because of this.
>Tfw Jontron yapping his mouth made more barrels of shitflinging fuel than even jim sterlings highaflutin autism and terrible taste somehow still being allowed to taint game reviews.
>Tfw this game went from niche nostalgia throwback that might get a few archived threads on release, probably a love/hate situaton, To critical levels of shitflinging that has nothing to do with the actual game but instead the bullshit surrounding it.
>Tfw Hatgirl might suffer similarly because of the faux-anti-collectathon faggots pretending they always hated collectathons being spawned en mass.
>Mfw this game will almost never be GENUINELY discussed or critiqued on Sup Forums now, or likely anywhere else on the internet for that matter. .

Can someone give me a quick rundown on the game's problems? Is it really just "Jontron is no longer in it", "we want refunds but can't get any", and "they're making fun of their paying customers"?

IGN said that iirc.

...

It even runs at 20fps!

Nah even some of the positive reviews had to admit the level design was a bit too expansive for the scope of the game.

Only genuine concern that seems to float around this game is the worldbuilding/leveldesign, which sadly might not be as polished as Banjo.

>Uninspired world
>Shitty characters
>Unremarkable music
So many words and all of them boil down to
>REE ITS SHIT FUCK YOU

>>WE WANT COLLECTATHONS AND 90's STYLE PLATFORMERS AGAIN!

said nobody

But Kazooie and Tooie had wildly different level design, so which is it?

>The game industry is one person

The jontron controversy is a non-issue. The only real problems with the game is performance on console ports, the camera, and the casino level. Reviews say they seemed to nail everything else.

>Can you ever please people?

A lot of the people that was going to be pleased by this game was pushed away from it due to PR mismanagement.

Let this be a lesson to everybody.

>Said enough people to donate a couple million dolalrs to the people that made one of the most beloved collectathons ever thats basically in the videogame hall of fame.
Ftfy

I love how easy it is to spot mindless contrarianism.

People are just going through the 5 stages of grief as they realize that 3D collecthons were always shit.

>Vocal minority shitposting = a lot of people
You are not as important as you think, kid. Let this be a lesson to you, as you've certainly not learned it yet.

Shovel knight borrows elements from other games but is still it's own thing and you remember the characters for being their own characters. Yooka Laylee is pretty blatantly just aping Banjo Kazooie, it sucks because it has no soul of its own.

I'm genuinely looking forward to A Hat in Time. I spent two hours just running around the demo on a shitty laptop that could not even handle it at a stable framerate. It's just the kind of game I like, and if there are more levels that are as open and fun to explore as Mafia Town then I'll be thrilled. Also, the main character is top cute.

I'm also the guy who drew that waiting room picture, mostly because I backed the game and I'm sad with waiting for it.

>angry Playtonic shill
mad that you cuck game didn't get a good score? ahah I bet you regret removing Jon now. Jon's a weak man, he would've shilled your game for free. You guys really blew your only chance.

Their own fault desu. Has nothing to do with the quality of the game, makes them retarded for letting principles get in the way of enjoying their hobby.

More like, it can't match up to the charm of your nostalgic memories

>Angry playtonic shill
See? I literally called it. His post is nothing more than
>REE ITS SHIT FUCK YOU SHILL REEEEEE

A mix.

The first and second worlds are more open like tooie and the third and fifth worlds have slices of the world in their own sections like kazooie. third one is a mixed bag of the two.

>tfw this legitimately scares me

Shovel Knight is a very unremarkable game thats been oddly elevated beyond its level by critics

Reviews are pretty average desu. I'm content

A Hat in Time is a dead project that will never be made.

>we just wanted it to be good.
You were never going to get that because the genre never was.

Well you did a good job drawing it, friendo. It looks to be a cute little collectathon that would be easily enjoyed by both kids and adults that loved collectathons as kids alike. I hope the fake-anti-collectathon drones buzz off back to wherever they came from before it releases.

Makes me wish I had a daughter to play it with and make fond memories of games.
