It's not much of a contest. No matter how much some small part of Sup Forums gushed over Berseria it's still a pretty shitty game. Only reason it seemed good was because it was compared to Zestiria, which was abysmal in all aspects.

No one in their right mind would ever choose Berseria.

Tales of -games have been shit since Vesperia, so of course I'll go with Persona 5.

Berseria is more streamlined, yet it's a game that focuses on combat, when the combat is absolutely awful.

Just buy and play Yakuza 0 instead.

This. I think people were fooled by how bad Zestiria was. Berseria seemed pretty low budget in many parts but overall was a nice game.

Some people were shouting how Berseria is finally a return to the good times like Vesperia but I don't think it's even quite as good as Xillias honestly, those were pretty nice games.

Berseria has probably the best written characters in vidya as whole and doesn't get half of attention it desrves. Also even though locations lack of detail and combat is a button mash, I prefer it even over Vesperia overall.

It's not like persona has anything special.They ran out of archetypes for bad guys they took the fucking most generic one in a highschool hentai.

I'm surprised people would be willing to put Tales over it, given how cool it apparently is to hate Berseria.

I liked Zestiria. It sort of felt like Dragon Age Inquisition with a JRPG coat and no bullshit fetch quests.

Maybe in Japan, in the west FF is still the most fellated JRPG series.

It's true that in japan it has lost quite a lot of steam, mostly due to how it basically lost any semblance of personal identity compared to other series, it's still going pretty strong though, it's just that the fanbase isn't as "homogenoeous" and dedicated as that of other series.
Fact is Persona is that thing and people buy Persona because that is the thing they sell to you, it's a good philosophy for a traditional kind of game, FF can't say the same, especially in the last decade or so.
Whether this kind of design philosophy is good or bad it's up to you to decide, but the fact the FF is rapidly deflating in terms of reception is a fact.
