Two nostalgia driven crowd funded games down.
Two: bloodstained and Shenmu remain. Will they suffer the same fate?

It might end up being good, but it's already confirmed to be shit in the graphics department.
...
Shenmue gameplay will be as boring as it always was, but the graphics are what's going to throw people off
Ryu is going to look nothing like he originally did and all of the textures are going to look "off"
Carmaggedon remake is good
Tumbleweed Park is good
Pillars of Eternity is good
All nostalgia driven too...
Banner Saga is good, Darkest Dungeon is good.
Thimbleweed Park had almost no marketing.
Psychonauts 2, on the other hand...
people don't even have a proper idea in their mind of what a good castlevania game would be like. bloodstained is gonna be trashed for not being a 20/10 game changer no matter how good or bad it is
You and I are the only two people on Sup Forums that actually enjoyed Pillars of Eternity
>a good castlevania game would be like
Well explain us then smartass
I feel like Shenmue III is going to be disappointing because everyone just wants closure. They don't want the full Shenmue experience.
But Yooka-Layle is exactly what Playtonic said it would be. Only real issues are camera and perfomance, and that'll be fixed within the day one patch.
Maybe the open spaces are too big, but that's not really that bad.
Mighty No. 9 was a train wreck though.
Yooka-Laylee seems to be a decent game in an aged genre, whereas MN9 was an awful game in a classic genre. There's a difference.
Yooka Laylee is looking like an amazing game though
All them will. SJW will find a way to influence then to do shit.
Bloodstained is impossible to fuck up. All the RPG castlevania games are good. They just vary on degree of level of goodness, with some being 7.5s, and some being 9.5s.
Indivisible counts since it wants the valkyrie profile fans
Shenmue was never exactly about the gameplay, fun as it was.
As long as Yu doesn't leave us in a literal cave for another decade I'll eat that shit up.
>It's a Sup Forums shills kickstarter hate episode
Yooka Laylee is looking great OP. Mighty Number 9 was hot garbage though
Well yeah, that's why Sup Forums is going to conclude that the game is irredeemable shit because it doesn't LOOK like 10/10 2D pixel art game of the year, despite the fact that if it were, they'd just denounce it for being pixelshit. Circle of the Moon is still a fucking fantastic game, having none of Iga's involvement, and looking like complete ass. The formula just works that well.
PAGIES
IN CAGIES
>Yooka Laylee is bad
What did he mean by this?
I feel like IGA is the best director of the lot, but Inti Creates can be a very dubious developer. If bloodstained fails I think it proves that kickstarter is, in general, a shitty platform for game development
what's the problem? It looks fine to me. Artistic direction is certainly unique though, and I understand if it's not everyone's cup of tea
Inti hasn't made something good since the Megaman Zero series
You're retarded if you think Shenmue was solely funded through Kickstarter. It's not the same.
At least for me, it fails completely.
If I wanted more vp style combat then tri-ace has made enough other games with it in.
There's nothing in Indivisible that has the same aesthetic or story that VP had. The subtle interactions and sub stories of the einherjar.
Even Cotp managed to to keep the connecting sub stories and interesting characters that created a the same world but from the human point of view.
Sticking some animes in a bucket then crying that you copying an older combat system is little more than lazy shilling. OC fanfiction that misses everything of the source work.
I can't describe it but it just feel wrong
it's like watching a Madoka sequence

Mega Man 9 and 10.
Mega Man Zx and ZX Advent.
Master Blaster Zero
>Inb4 they're shit.
Mighty Number 9 is shit. Those games are at least above that.
I don't think it looks bad. It definitely has an indie/low-budget look to it, which is about as well as I'd expect from a KS game.
Fair enough. But Gunvolt is still a fucking mess.
Gunvolt is more of a travesty.
Fresher characters compared to the MM analogies in MN9, detailed and fairly consistent sprite work that feels like a lot of effort was put in.
A lot of care.
But the gameplay and plot just drops the ball.
this looks like some kind of patreon porn game
our only hope
I don't know what you expected, to be honest. The only thing in Indivisible that has anything to do with VP somewhat is the combat system. They promised nothing more. It's obvious that Indivisible is going for a completely different direction.
Yooka Laylee has been getting mixed reviews, and a lot of the negative reviews are from shitters who clearly don't even like BK. Stop lumping it in with MN9
Yeah.
Was just pointing out to the user that I don't think it's the same type of cash in nostalgia as the others.
But I do think the term "valkyrie profile" like has been bounded around alongside it far too much.
But that could be just part of the usual lazy echo chamber that comes out of these sorts of projects.
Uh, they made fuckin Gal*Gun mate.
YL have no originality/creativity. Bloodstained development is a mess even more compared to MN9. Just fucking hope that the people that made MN9 was just fucking around when they made MN9 because these people are the ones making Bloodstained.
>YL have no originality/creativity
because it was made for banjofags
That's because BK is a terrible game.
>hurr durr lets make a Mario 64 clone because all we've ever done is ride Nintendo's coattails
>but lets remove all the platforming because it's too hard
If you want to walk around a flat plain collecting things, you should just go outside and pick up trash. At least that way you're helping your community.
Yooka Laylee didn't sink though
>That's because BK is a terrible game.
That's a funny way to spell Tooie
>a Mario 64 clone
I see he didnt play the game
to me its the camera, its too focused on the character and its completely static. The character is essentially in the center of the screen with everything else moving around it which isn't really how it is in platformers
imo I think shenmue will be decent but its been in development hell for so long with what im sure is a tiny team so by time it comes out it will look like shit with sony and microsoft putting out these new fancy console shenaninigans
>3d platformer
>different themed levels connected through a hub world
>uses an assortment of collectables as the level's goal (as opposed to a physical location to reach, like most platformers)
>character has a large variety of movement abilities and powerups, most of which were pulled directly from SM64 (in most platformers you could only run, jump, and attack)
What people are going to get are 3-4 chapters and a sequel hook that barely resolves anything with Lan Di escaping again
>which isn't really how it is in platformers
But that's how it was in the Metroidvanias.
Guess what. It's a Metroidvania, not a platformer classicvania.
Shenmue isn't crowdfunded, that was purely a marketing stunt.
Meanwhile, Thimbleweed Park is legitimately great and released on time. What went so right?
Has there ever been a good game made in unity?
Hollow Knight, but i'd say it's good despite using unity. The poor optimization only hurts it.
No, shill
it's actually good? Should I buy it?
wasn't shovel knight crowdfunded? It's both nostalgia bait and one of the best modern platformers.
considering Iga is a fucking fraud who was a nobody in Rondo development and only came into SotN's development when the game was basically already done, I SURE DO WONDER HOW BLOODSTAINED WILL BE.
Oh that's right, dogshit like 2/3 of "Igavania" (a thing he never created) are.
If you like point and click adventure games, it's a good point and click adventure game.
It had some pretty big flaws for me but damn if I didn't enjoy my time with it. I'm legit looking forwards to the sequel since it seems like obsidian knows where the first went wrong.
Also looking forwards to Divinity original sins 2 which already fixed most of my problems with the first.
Everything after Symphony was great. This game however looks like shit for the sole reason of the hideous 2.5D graphics and generic art design.
Someday people are going to have to admit that games are team projects and that no single individual can carry a game unless they make it all themselves a la Toady.
This. The Xbox remasters for Kazooie and Tooie got same review scores as Yooka Laylee and those two games were straight up ports.
The game is gonna be great.
I prefer Spyro.
>decent game in an aged genre
bad to average is decent now.
Just pirate it.
...
...
I backed Bloodstained only out of all these and I have a feeling Shenmue will be really unsatisfying.
Time will tell if IGA makes me his bitch.
I actually have some faith in IGA because he has worked many ok games with small budgets, the main source of danger is the amount of versions kickstarter games tend to hole themselves into.
