ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST
ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST
most zelda games have been open world already you big dummy
...
Maybe they'll get it right at some point
>big dummy
Not that I expected anything but baby-speak from a Nintenbro.
This.
But thats wrong.
>that one retard in another thread that said Zelda 1 wasn't open world because the genre hadn't been created yet
Welcome to 1986.
See you, Zelda. Pressing F to pay my respects.
No. Not even Zelda 1 was Open World
>You could go anywhere
Yeah, but the map was actually exactly as big as it needed to be. It didn't have tons of unnecessary padding. And that's why it isn't open world shit like Breath of the Wild.
Explain to me then
BOTW Map isnt too big
>it's not open if it's not big
wtf
One of my favorite pastimes is dying and I can do nothing to stop it.
And yet OoT and Majora's Mask will always be a million times more memorable then whatever Nintendo shits out in the future.
It just goes to show that you can still preserve a sense of exploration and discovery in a small and condensed environment and doing so cuts out all the filler and allows debs to work on things that are actually interesting instead of programming the umpteenth identical mountain.
Relax, theyll still make 2d zelda games by smaller teams and younger directors.
LOL BOTW is about right, it's nice and comfy. Each region is big enough to wander around in without breaking immersion.
Daggerfall, now, i would agree that was too big. But BOTW is just about perfect.
So the next metroid, if we ever see another, will basically be Fallout: Metroid.
No, you fucking retard. This announcement is only about Zelda games.
Sorry linear games, I was wrong about you
Do you not know what "open world" means?
Hint: it has nothing to do with the size of the map, dumbass.
Seems too soon for Nintendo to say that but alright. I love the open world meme in vidya so I'm happy with that. Love the open world in this game too.
Nope, this is false.
How is it false?
3d Zeldas.
Majora's Mask
Twilight Princess
Ocarina of Time
Skyward Sword
Breath of the Wild - Open World
The Wind Waker - Open World
All other Zelda games sure have big maps but they are not open world. You cannot explore them freely by jumping and climbing mountains. Is just like STALKER 1 is not open world. You have to go through loading screens to enter new areas.
What is it about semi open world games that are so much better then open world ones?
Nintendo is quite literally 5 years behind its competitions. It's scary how they follow the exact same trends and decisions, only 5 years later.
''Open world, free roam, or (more loosely) sandbox are terms for video games where a player can move freely through a virtual world and is given considerable freedom in regard to how and when to approach particular objectives, as opposed to other video games that have a more linear structure to their gameplay.[1][2]
Video games with open or free-roaming worlds typically lack the invisible walls and loading screens that are common in linear level designs. Generally, open world games still enforce many restrictions in the game environment, either because of absolute technical limitations or in-game limitations imposed by a game's linearity.[3] Examples of high level of autonomy in computer games can be found in massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) or in single-player games adhering to the open world concept such as the Fallout series. The main appeal of open world gameplay is that they provide a simulated reality and allow players to develop their character and its behavior in the direction of their choosing. In these cases, there is often no concrete goal or end to the game.
Some popular and most recent games implementing this include: Xenoblade Chronicles X, Final Fantasy XV, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Watch Dogs 2, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft.''

Discuss.
>The first open world Zelda
lolwut
ANOTHER ONE RIDES THE BUS!
Open world as in AAA open world.
>I WANT MORE HAND HOLDING BULLSHIT AND NOT THE ABILITY TO WATCH A 30 SECOND CUTSCENE AND THEN GET TO DO WHATEVER THE FUCK I WANT!!!!
This is literally what you sound like. If they never go back to form I will be happy with that. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were both horrible in this regard.
I'm literally okay with this so long as they see the weaknesses that the current formula has and try to iron them out in future releases.
Can Wind Waker really be considered open world when 99% of it was just water?
But bro, none of those games are open world.
Open world means its non-linear, that includes story. You can do any part of the game in any order in open world games. Thats how people are beating Breath of the Wild in like 20 minutes, because the main story is essentially just a mission while all the other stuff in the world isn't mandatory to proceed.
>crysis
>open world
Nigger what
Well, the definition you posted seems accurate. What's there to discuss?
you get to keep the sense of freedom while deep down you still know that you're the developer's little bitch. you like being a little bitch don't you?
And then they get praised as innovators for it kek
Just like apple
>semi open world
it's called non-linear
and all of the games on the right would only benefit from being open world
>because the main story is essentially just a mission while all the other stuff in the world isn't mandatory to proceed.
This is exactly how I like my video games. I am tired of 100 hour main campaigns. I want to actually finish the fucking thing.
So Zelda is going back to its roots? BoTW would be the perfect game if it had actual dungeons
good. BOTW was phenomenal no matter how hard you pretend it isnt.
>Open world means its non-linear. You can do any part of the game in any order in open world games.
Are the GTA games not open world? Sure there's usually a little bit of wiggle room in doing the required mission but as a whole it's still a linear story made up a certain sequence of missions.
It's a good game but it's no OoT or Majora's Mask.
I don't see how they could eve top the atmosphere or side quests of MM.
>future Zelda games likely to be Zelda games
What a shocker.
Enjoy your next Zelda game published by Ubisoft
The meme open world which is open world without any restrictions and without any heart. Meme open world is just a big world that retards love because they can climb mountains and glide, I guess going outside and doing this is an impossible dream for them or it takes too long and they don't wanna do it. For some reason, at some point, it was decided that videogames that let you climb mountains and glide while doing the same thing over and over again are really good and immersive as opposed to games that are linear and maybe shine with their gameplay or intricate level design. Unfortunately, linearity has become the new hate meme because people can't understand that linear games are 9/10 times better than open world games because they allow for a lot more detail and intricacy in story, gameplay and exploration.
BotW has much better gameplay and exploration than every Zelda before it.
Sorry linear games, I was wrong about you
This but with less autism
A link to the past was a great example of a 2D open world. These SONY NIGGERS wouldn't understand.
Pretty much this. I hate this open world meme so fucking much.
Rockstar is basically the only company that actually makes good open world games. Somehow all the other devs got the idea that open world is just being able to climb mountains and see the sun or something.
>muh lift rock to find poop to upgrade my inventory size
What is autistic about that post?
We had decades of 100% linear games. Open world was an evolution from that. It's inherently better for adventure role playing than linear experiences.
If they're as great as BotW then fuck yeah
I imagine since the original game and ALttP their dream has been to make a similarly open world game in full 3D, and the current technology allows them to do it. BoTW feels like the realization of that goal, or at least an attempt at it. Of course they're going to make more open world Zelda titles.
>muh muh
Doesn't prove him wrong though
As someone who loves Majora's Mask to death, this is the first Zelda that's come anywhere close to having an atmosphere as good as Majora's Mask. It's not as sophisticated or nearly as thorough, but it does have a deep sense of melancholy when you're picking through pieces of the past.
If Fujibayashi's team is allowed to go really far out there and ditch Ganondorf and Zelda and the Master Sword, I can see something on par with Majora's Mask coming out. It's a stretch, but I see that potential.
>all the faggots in the thread who don't even own the game
BoTW blows away almost every open world game on the market. This is open world DONE RIGHT. Anyone comparing it to Ubishit is fucking retarded
>b.b.but my favorite eceleb doesn't like open world! It's shit!
You fucking idiots. Why did you idiots buy BOTW. The fact that Nintendo is making every Zelda game open world confirms it was a success. Now because lots of idiots bought one game it's going to ruin every other game. It's Sticker Star all over again
OoT is basically open world fag.
>You cannot explore them freely
this literally never defined open world. All open world games have areas locked behind an item, a story event, or enemie levels and stats.
You are a fanatic idiot.
>It's Sticker Star all over again
The difference here is Sticker Star was mediocre shit and this game is actually incredibly fun and a positive change for the series.
Its all busy work though, there isn't any payoff for exploring. I think the real problem here, aside from the open world thing, is that they decided to turn LoZ into much more of an RPG than it was before and ty are obviously very had at that. Any and all RPG mechanics in BotW are shallow as fuck and they amount to nothing more than useless padding. Just look at the master sword, the only requirement for pulling it out is literally grinding and on top of that you can't use it all the time unlike every other Zelda game. You don't even actually need it, you can win without it its basically there because they knew people would freak out if the master sword wasn't in the game.
>TP and SS were shit
>BotW is amazing
>contrarian faggots on Sup Forums WILL get upset about this trend continuing
Kek, fucking faggots.
>OoT is basically open world
Except it isn't. Areas are clearly sectioned off and tightly designed.
That would be neat if it was done over a long period of time and with a seasonal effect (ie. leaves change color, grass goes brown, etc). Other wise it's just the game telling it that there's rain and having a water effect under the terrain rise up slowly when triggered by said rain parameter.
It's a nice attention to detail though so kudos for that.
>deep sense of melancholy when you're picking through pieces of the past.
Yes. I love the feeling of the disparity between who Link used to be 100 years ago and who he is now when you're seeing his memories. It feels like he became a lot less serious and more lighthearted after losing his memories.
"It's all busywork" and "you can win without [the Master Sword]" are contradicting statements. None of it's busywork, you don't need any of it. That's the way open world games should be. It's the exact opposite of WW's Triforce Hunt bullshit.
/thread
>Unironically liking shit
It's okay when Nintendo does it, amirite Bros?
MM is only memorable for being shit
It's so fucking good. Some real Planescape: Torment shit.
Well, not really, but similarly fundamental idea.
>this literally never defined open world.
Thats exactly what define them. Look at the definition > where a player can move freely
Idiot.
You say that as if any other game has even done that much.
...
>Its all busy work though, there isn't any payoff for exploring.
Hey my pay off was to get the second ring of stamina while still only having four hearts and now because of that extra stamina I can actually explore now.
>LoZ into much more of an RPG than it was before
if that were true I wouldn't feel like I was wasting my time killing enemies since I don't get XP from them and just get shitty weapons that I have no room to store. I suppose I get stuff for elixirs as well and shitty shields I don't want to use.
>Any and all RPG mechanics in BotW
it doesn't hve any RPG mechanics. It's not an RPG in any sense, it's an adventure game as it always has been. GO play an actual RPG and rethink your position.
>being this fucking stupid
What even is your argument.
>>TP and SS were shit
True
>>BotW is amazing
False. It's still shit, just a different flavour.
no it wouldnt, itd mean you never get to appreciate the change or actually have it affect you. Its better that it happens quickly so its a dynamic landscape
Thank God BotW is my favorite one, and the rest are mediocre.
I'd be willing to bet 1,000 dollars BotW will sell more than every other Zelda.
Is anyone surprised?
Aonuma mindlessly responds to criticism and praise. If people like something, he'll ramp it up in the next game, if people don't like something it's gone.
>You no rike cartoon? Zelda dark now
>No rike water? We back Hyrule, big open map. Ocarina of time, but bigger!
>No rike big map? Okedoke, erreywhere rike dungeon now
>You no rike disconnected over world? We open worudo now. Big map. Big big map.
Zelda will be open world until people start complaining about it. They'll do something to deal with weapon durability, probably something stupid.
Not an RPG. Never has been. That's as retarded as claiming the RPG mechanics in counterstrike are shallow as fuck.
C'mon Metroid
But not 1:1 scale. This shit is boring.
Next game will have standard RPG weapons, probably ones you can upgrade. Possibly SHIEKAH WEAPONS you pull out of your ass that never, ever break.
What are you end trying to say here my man? This is just facts and opinions, there is no argument for open world here. Linear games have better level design, period. An interconnected world is 50 times better than an open world. I can easily say I have had more fun going through Dark Souls's linear, interconnected world than any modern day open world. OoT had a bland open world, there are no mountains to climb, no cool views to discover etc. But there is intricacy in the way you traverse it and its obvious that the story/gameplay was designed first and then a proper world to accommodate it. As opposed to BotW which is basically just an open world, the story is bad and the gameplay is mediocre because they were concerned with an open world more than anything else.
The physics toys are cool but they are just gimmicks. I will never be a fan of open world games where the only quality is that they are open world. If I can beat your game in1 hour because it is non linear then you had better give me a good reason to put more time into your game. In the case of BotW there is nothing to do but waste your time.
Skyrim was the first open world elder scrolls game also
>muh opinion is fact
Metroid should copy Deus Ex.
But it already did. It has been dead for years.
It's sad to think of how many things they may have gotten right by accident. Things they they will now see as a problem to remedy, and dumb down even more in the next game.
But they don't change it unless there are complaints
Open world is more immersive and is sometimes better for world design. I mean, Far Cry and Red Dead Redemption just wouldn't be the same without their open world for example.
DAISAN NO BAKUDAN
>373212913
>eashit, ubisoft and bethesda vs Nintendo
Nice unbiased comparison.
