Yes. I liked it more than 8. I felt I could get my cart just the way I liked it more than I could in 8. Speed is #1 in 8 where other factors matter more in 7.

If you make an effort to learn the tracks and how to control your character weight level, you can manage to lap people online, unlike in Mario Kart 8. It's great.

Excuse me? MK7 is tailored for the person who manages to get in first after the first item boxes, the coins scattered on the track respawn so slowly that nobody else will be able to collect any without taking detours to get the out-of-the-way ones. They boost max speed by a fairly substantial amount, while items that you can target the first with are scarce. You're trading a series of coin flips for one.

This is assuming everyone involved knows how to fucking race, and hearing stories of how you're lapping random shitters online doesn't convince me that to be the case in your games.

MK8 isn't perfect (the balancing of item handouts being based on your distance from the one in 1st rather than your position is an example of that) but at least people in the back have access to coins as well, and as long as you don't let the frontrunning get to the point of a complete faceroll you just might get items with which to turn the situation around.

Being able to utilize item boxes to their fullest extent is a facet of Mario Kart as well, and if you only cared about 100% skill you'd be playing Time Trials instead of races
