Literally the worst downgrade in the history of video games.
They removed an entire mechanic that was one of the main selling points of the game. Half the gameplay videos were jerking off about the INCREDIBLE TORCH AND LIGHTING SYSTEMS.
Why isn't anyone talking about this anymore? Is Sup Forums filled with so many underages that don't even remember it?
Matthew Barnes
stfu OP, no one gives a shit. Game's over 3 years old.
Owen Jackson
>Why isn't anyone talking about this anymore? You're three years late bud. Plus it's not like people praise Dark Souls 2, at most some people say it's better than 3 but almost no one says it's great. There are way more problems with it than a lighting downgrade.
Christian Miller
Nice pasta
You're right though
Christopher Garcia
because Souls fanbase are a bunch of rabid retards who will defend the games no matter how bad they are
Adrian Garcia
Because it was years ago. That being said, it's a massive mark against the game and I wish it was brought up more whenever DaS II apologists pop up to say it's the best game in the series.
Logan Harris
>Forced to carry around a torch for 90% of the game >You would almost never get a chance to use shields or dual wield weapons
Sounds gay, glad they ditched it
Jason Edwards
A big part of why Dark Souls 2 development was so troubled was because it was being developed for new-gen systems at the time, but Banco said no and insisted it be released for PS3/360 instead, causing development to be spun around and thrown askew, because the guy in charge before Tanimura had the idea of making Dark Souls 2 this gigantic open world RPG that was supposed to be bigger and more intricate than what we got. It's why the graphics ended up looking so bright and bland, because when Tanimura was put in charge, he essentially had to stitch together a complete game from all the bits and pieces of what was already completed. DLC content was originally meant to be part of the full game before the development got spun upside down.

Why did Namco Bandai poison From?
Jackson Rodriguez
>Why isn't anyone talking about this anymore?
Maybe because we've already had 4000 threads on this exact subject over the past three years and there's nothing else to say?
Owen Taylor
Because new gen systems were still new and yet to be released at the time. The PS4 wouldn't come out until that Fall, with the XBO months after.
Plus, sales would be much better if it just came out for current gen systems.
It's money. Simple as that.
Alexander Reed
I'm more annoyed that everyone only brings up the lighting and ignores all the new spell casting mechanics and other shit that got thrown by the wayside. But yeah, lets just compare the same handful of screenshots again, because that leads to far more meaningful discussion.
Cooper Rodriguez
Yeah thank that to shitty decade old consoles.
Luis Gutierrez
The lighting downgrade sucked, but I could live with it. Getting 90% of the work done for a massively improved magic system and scrapping it all like 2 months before release or something really pissed me off though. >spells work differently when you 2hand the catalyst >charged versions of spells that behave differently were actually in the public network test build, removed for release >code for running and rolling versions of spells is still in the game, just does nothing >built in manual aiming instead of having to carry around binoculars, also in the network test and removed for no reason If I didn't like their games so much I'd say From is one of the worst developers. They never learn from mistakes, insist on changing things that worked and are shit at scheduling so every game is rushed and unfinished. I hate that its still the best modern videogame series sometimes.
Tyler Sanchez
What spell casting mechanics? Explain
Jonathan Long
Money, eh?
sounds about right
Jackson Jenkins
See For once spells were going to me more than glorified consumables, but nope.
David Butler
What are the things they SHOULD have changed or fixed with Scholar of the First Sin?
Leo Carter
>What are hip-placed light sources?
Logan Thompson
>Why isn't anyone talking about this anymore? You can only bitch about something so long.
Julian Kelly
>buy collector's edition >doesn't come with DLC, season pass, etc
Bravo
Julian Lewis
In the beta, there was a way to cast spells with a "light" and "heavy" variation when using a catalyst.
So, you could have the spell soul arrow, and cast it light for a quick and less-damaging spell, or you could cast it heavy for a slower and more powerful variation.
The amount of wasted potential this discarded mechanic had still angers me.
Imagine being able to alternate between light and heavy soul sword swings, or being able to trick out your opponent by casting a heavy spell when they expected you to panic and fire off a quicker one.
Camden Evans
Most comical thing is you faggots still believe 7th gen consoles could handle it.
James Clark
Don't you get tired of screaming into your pillow? That's what complaining on Sup Forums is equivalent to.
Caleb White
I think the other one does, I'm not sure.
Ayden Rodriguez
None of them do. The biggest joke is the 'day one edition'.
Luis Hall
>Hmm, should we ship the game with one less level or rather ship the game with one derivative level that completes the original and incredible looking Irithyll Valley
Dark Souls 3 feels mostly finished except that when people looked into the unused files the names of bosses and areas from the DKC were clearly present which goes to show they actually planned DLC from the very beginning and that they just don't fucking care anymore. Thankfully their contract with Nanco ends after The Ringed City so they can make something they actually don't despise working on.
