Gladio was in the wrong. Noctis was holding himself together pretty well considering the circumstances. Feeling sorry for himself in their downtime isn't a problem so long as he isn't sulking and dragging his heels when he needs to be actively fighting or planning their next move: unless I remember it totally wrong they were just commuting on the fucking train in that scene.
