Sonic can't actually run that fast without boost, which requires rings and/or wisps which aren't on the tracks, and he can neither fly nor swim. Same reason why Riders exists.

I've played SASRT and SAR, I own them both, I just remember the speed segment's in 06 (specifically the beach) being pretty fast.

No it isn't. The Tornado is Sonic's property. He had it before he even met Tails. He only lets him use and modify it because Tails allows Sonic to penetrate his tiny boy pussy from time to time.

Sonic's never had an enthusiasm just for going fast, he's had an enthusiasm for adventure and carefree living. Even classic-era official art showed him taking it easy plenty of times.

Shadow's bike segment in Radical Train has a higher top speed than Sonic's Mach Speed segment if you use boost dash effectively (I'm talking velocity, not overall time to complete, I know it's shorter than Sonic's), you just don't notice it because of the speed blur filter and the bike having worse acceleration.

Boost is just when he uses Chaos energy to become a dangerous projectile though, Battle and the end of Colors show that his serious speed is a lot faster.

He's always been carefree in that regard. In SA 1 he's resting at the resort and near the end of the game he says he's thinking about taking a vacation

All of this "Sonic isn't as fast as you think thing" is a little silly when you consider that if we ever played Sonic at his top speed it would be unplayable unless all the levels were just enormous straightaways with no obstacles. If there were obstacles he'd have to auto-maneuver like Raiden's Ninja Run in Revengeance.

This is why I never play as any Sonic character in this series except for THE EGGMAN

Sonic Unleashed onward has the Tornado 3. Tails refers to it as the Tornado 1 in the English version, but the Japanese version (as well as the planes actual model) refer to it as the Tornado 3.

Sonic's top speed will always be the speed of sound. He could be balanced to work as a racer in a racing game but in-universe it would have to be him accepting a rule to not go over a particular speed.

As of Sonic Colors, it's light speed.

He needed to reach Light Speed in his super form in order to attack Perfect Chaos but the Boost allows him to do it on his own.

The original Tornado was, and still is, Sonic's plane, that's actually how Sonic traveled around the world, and from island to island in the Genesis games before he met Tails.

The following planes were made and owned by Tails though.
