With the state of Gran Turismo (over 1,000 cars) but stuck on ps3, and Forza now on PC/becoming a dlc churning machine, why has no PC only developer tried to pick up on the fuck ton of cars in a racing game meme? There is so much potential and proven success with steam workshop, and train simulator using the fuck ton of dlc model.
Why is there no PC competitive equivalent?
Because PC racing games are geared toward hardscore sim racing like iRacing
The PC racing market is pretty limited. Also, both GT and Forza rely on their huge existing library of reference photos, audio files, car data, etc. Remember that neither GT1 or Forza 1 had 1000 cars. It took decades to build up to that level. Somebody building an equivalent roster from scratch would be prohibitively expensive and time consuming.
Because they're really expensive games to make.
I understand the appeal of super sims like iracing, but I feel like on pc right now it is either that or arcade racers, and nothing in between. There is no racing game with a primary focus on single player and collecting cars, and I feel like if a company were to come along and fill that hole, they would be very successful.
>over 1,000 cars
yeah and only 50 of which look decent graphically
Exactly my point, it is limited by its hardware and source. If a company were to make a similar game on pc, it could constantly be graphically updated
Forza 6: Apex?
Though having to deal with UWP for that kills it. And besides which, most PC players don't care about "collecting cars" anyone that is playing a racing sim is there for the racing on PC.
Tpbp
It's not a big market. And if you try to make it too realistic people won't play it. People still want 2004s car control
just play forza
no, its been reported that it takes upwards of thirty days for polyphony to make a premium model car because they do everything in-house. GT6 still looks top of the line for a ps3 game (minus the standard models)
pc devs can't afford car licenses and pc racing sims focus on autism over fun
I see where you're coming from. I may need to check out some more racing games on pc, but for me the joy of racing games comes from collecting difficult to obtain cars, or racing with a single car and incrementally upgrading it until it is punching well above its weight class. The competitive nature of online multiplayer, just isn't in me.
What multi billion corporation is going to drop millions of dollars on 600 licensed cars, 40 laser scanned real life tracks? You go first.
Loved GT5 and 6 online. Spent so many hours doing no assist, clean or kick lobbies on it. Lots of great, respectful drivers to race with and loads of options. The single player bit was still pretty god awful but only scrubs play racing games offline.
Thank god they take their time instead of churning out a DLC infested entry that's either a tiny step forward or a step back from the last every two years like Forza. The super sterile iracing/asseto stuff doesn't do it for me either. GT actually has some character and it makes it easier to play for long periods of time.
I know that doesn't really answer anything in the OP but i just wanted to take a chance to share my thoughts before the thread dies ten posts in.
but if it were on pc, "standard" cars could be graphically updated. I understand the amount of time polyphony takes to polish their premium cars, but it's all to no avail if it is limited to closed hardware. Gt5 and 6 look fantastic, I've played them both, it is amazing what that team was able to achieve out of that hardware.
>loves Gran Turismo but implies anything other than 5 and 6 are trash
you are truly one of a kind
I just said I loved playing those online because they're the only ones I could play online, dipshit. That doesn't come anywhere close to implying the others are bad unless of course you;re retarded and can't comprehend basic english. I loved every GT and I've been playing them since you were an itch in your dad's crotch.
This, ever since I've switched to primarily pc, this is the type of racing game that has been missing. it's probably never going to happen, desu. no company would pay
pirates and open source commie hippies that don't respect ip
>but only scrubs play racing games offline
>but only scrubs play racing games offline
>but only scrubs play racing games offline
No I understood you perfectly fine
>IT'S TIME TO ROLL
Believe it or not that statement excludes the time periods when online console racing games didn't exist.
Microsoft is releasing all future Forza games on PC. You can already play Forza Horizon 3 and a demo version of Forza 6.
>Somebody building an equivalent roster from scratch would be prohibitively expensive and time consuming.
This is exactly what happened with Forza 5. The reason it had considerably less cars and tracks than Forza 4 was because they had to rebuild all of it on a new engine for a new console.
Worked out for them in the end because they just made most of the cars they re-added paid DLC.
This kills the me. I bought three identical thin-bezel IPS monitors for 48:9 racing.
I just want racing, earning credits, and spending credits on upgrading/tweaking. Is that REALLY too much to ask for? WTF "PC gaming"?
I have tried forza horizon 3 and it is pretty damn fun, but I just wish another developer created a new ip instead of microsoft porting theirs over. I'm just going to assume, zero steam support right?
>why has no PC only developer tried to pick up on the fuck ton of cars in a racing game meme
>PC only developer
>he doesn't know
>zero steam support right?
Yeah. They use the Microsoft store.
god fucking damnit
Dirt rally is the closest I can think of that's not 100% Sim
nope I know, just let me dream, man.
The codemasters games on PC fill a nice roll of inbetween sim and arcade.
This might be a bit of a shock to you but the days of Gran Turismo 4 were the same days when Forza Motorsport and Project Gotham Racing 2 were kings of online console racing. You were still talking shit about people who would still rather play an offline career. Just admit you let your faggot mouth run a bit wild instead of trying to backpedal a bit more.
I could see Codemasters making a 3rd party equivalent of the two. They already have licenses and many successful racing series.
I actually ended up dual booting windows 10 only for windows store shit specifically Forza.
Grid series if you want just tarmac.
Dirt series if you want rally.
I like racing games, but I really wish they wouldn't exclusively have super cars.
Let me drive my shitty Camry. Thanks.
I've played them all, and they are fantastic games! although I have a few small gripes about dirt 3 and grid autosport... but he thing is though, those games still have a small car roster compared to anything polyphony digital or microsoft puts out. I love the collecting aspect
Grid was tight as an arcade racer
I'm playing Forza Horizon 3 on PC and loving it
Yes it's Windows 10 only, yes it's expensive if you get all the DLC, but in the end it's almost exactly what I'm looking for out of a driving game, and I don't have to buy an Xbone to have it.
agreed. that is why I always find myself going back to gran turismo 4. I like making a hero car that starts off super slow, but slowly throughout the game gets faster and faster. The forza series made it crazy too with motor and drivetrain swaps.
all I have is a toaster from like 2010, is there a racing game I can waste time on while listening to eurobeat
I already played NFS:MW, carbon and TXRD2 recently
Get GRID
The original Grid in my opinion is the best arcade racer of the seventh gen, if only they had just expanded the roster way more, then maybe we would have had an arcade style gt or forza.
thanks
It's great, love it. I have 60 hours in so far.
What's weird is Horizon 1 and 2 weren't particularly good but they really went all in here.
