Didn't particularly care about the overworld
Regardless, great shit
It's better than Eo3
Is it, though? How's the balance?
I enjoyed it.
It's the first one I recommend to new players
Skill gating, shitty small dungeons coupled with a boring overworld, and no glorious synth OST.
>skill gating
You mean needing to spend 20 points into shitty mastery skills to use your class' strongest skill? I hate that too, thank god there's nothing like that in EO4
How's Persona Q? I actively dislike Persona but i really need my fill of map drawing
Yeah, I'm so glad that the game makes me wait 20 levels until I can get the 2nd tier skills, and another 20 after that for 3rd tier.
It's a good thing, it's so you can't rush the strongest skills like in previous games
I never had an issue with this
It's fucking pointless is what it is, especially considering you can rest at like level 46 and pick from literally every skill you have to minmax like the faggots we all are. What's the point of gating skills if it's not only completely circumventable, but ideal to do so?
>try Etrian Mystery Dungeon as my first venture into the series
>enjoy it a lot
>a little thrown off by the fact that there's not much story or character interaction outside of NPCs
>didn't realize all the girls were lolis till someone pointed it out
I'm not dissing the series, but I'm curious, do you guys do any kind of RPing to fill the void of story/character development or is the lack of story a bonus to you?
Personally my favorite game in the series, but to be honest:
Eo3>eo4>garbage>eou>eo>eou2>eo2
>EO4 above anything
>hates untolds
Look at this bandwagoning faggot.
i installed eo5 cia, it's in japanese, and i suck at japanese
Nah.
EO3 > EO2U >>> EOU > EO4 >>> EO >>> EO2
There literally no reason to play shit like untold because they still didn't fixed awful skill system while games become even more braindead
If I wanted something with classic skill system I would play the dark spire or dt2, untolds are just plainly trash
What went right?
>character development or is the lack of story a bonus to you?
It is, there's an option for story mode in EO Untold but i avoided it like the plague, this is the series i come to when i just want to good ol' dungeon crawling without much bullshit in my way
Even then i still enjoy the chick from the pub and blacksmith
Lack of a story is a bonus, plus nothing tops the original EO's 5th stratum reveal. Too bad EOU immediately shits all over that the literal moment the game starts.
Where the FUCK is EOV?
It's dead, JoJo killed it.
How on earth did JoJo kill it
Localization.
Atlus JP got to show just how much they hate NA and EU once again. It was a flawless victory which they're still furiously masturbating over.
Switch doesn't have dual screens
Both, a lack of a story means I focus more on the gameplay, and from there I'll think of what my party might do or react to in situations.
what are some good dungeon crawlers? im fairly new to the genre but I picked up etrian odyssey recently and am loving it.
Are you just memeing around or did some news surfaced lately?
I'm nervous
Here's a Vita list, none of them are really as good as Etrian Odyssey though
>Operation Abyss on Steam now
>Dungeon Travelers 2 still isn't
Fugg.
thanks user.
lol no Mind 0
I see that released on Steam last month. Any good?
Persona Q, The Dark Spire on 3DS too
EO3 was the story of a loli princess and her harem of lolis beating the shit out of a cult of fishmen and their god.
Any good PC game like EO that isn't Grimrock?
Might and Magic X is okay. Not good, but okay.
Dungeon Travelers 2 comes close though despite its garbage map designs.
If you don't mind extremely outdated graphics, wizardry 6-7-8 and Might and Magic 5-6-7-8 are worth a try.
Wizardry 8 is the easiest to get into. Try this one first.
Bit slutty
It's very playable without knowing any Japanese if you're just into the dungeon crawling and have hacked your 3DS.

It's 10eurobuck on PSN right now, is it worth it ? I find the monster girl extremly offputting, I don't mind the party of sexy girls but I'll rather have them fight real monsters.
Persona 5 localization delay pretty much killed any work on EOV if there was any at all
Now all we can do is to sit and hope that they will do it before jap release of Deep Strange Journey.
otherwise RIP
Persona 5 had nothing to do with it, or else how do you explain SMT4A releasing just fine?
The only true culprit is always Atlus JP. Until they start actually giving a shit about their Western audiences we will always get the short straw. If they'd let Atlus NA and Atlus EU get in on the translating during actual development of the game the turnaround time for the games would be non-existent compared to what it is now.
I can't wait for EO3U to be announced.
I never played this game, but Yuzo Koshiro's Battlefield - Faith is my Pillar and Noriyuki Kamikura's Battlefield - Storm are pretty cool.

It is worth full price user, if you dig dungeon crawlers. The class system is on par if not better than the EO skill system. Each one of your character cumulates 3 classes out of 5 (it's a branching class system) and you can put your skill point in any skill you want which means that you have very specialized characters.
When the difficulty ramps up, the balance is still tight, unlike the experience inc games on vita which are garbage on this point.
Also the fanservice is rampant, but globally harmless. It's a fun game to put 80-100 hours in. (the post game is enormous)
>I actively dislike Persona
Then why did you bother asking? Don't be dumb user.
EO3 was the story of a gang of five teenage pirates working together with the prince of an island to purge fishlolis from the world.
Maybe I was dense but I started Etrian Odyssey properly on the demo of EOU, Gladsheim and everything, and when I got the full game I played Classic mode due to /vg/'s recommendation and didn't really connect the dots between Gladsheim and Lost Shinjuku until I played it on Story mode later. Maybe I just assumed Gladsheim was a generic "fallen ancient high tech magic ruins" like Blue Dragon or whatever.
Silly user. Persona 5 needs a few more months of breathing room before EOV crowds it
What are the best DRPG on both Vita and PSP? I have about $125 I can spend on PSN.
Because gameplay wise it is much more to the EO side, so i want to know how it stands as an EO game
Start with Legends of Grimrock 2 and Wizardry 8, although after them every weeaboo shit will not satisfy you, at least you'll be a person with taste instead of a disgusting Otaku.
>Might and Magic 5-6-7-8
They are one of the best games ever created for people who likes exploration, but the combat is too simple in World of Xeen, and completely awful in 6 and onwards.
In other words, I'd recommend to explorers, not to people who want dungeon crawlers.
How's the respecing ? Does it take away your level like in EO ?
Nothing really.
Dungeon Travellers 2 is the best of them, but it's still sorta average.
Fusing personas for 5 people is really tedious and its very hard to use the entire cast well because grinding them all up is tedious. If you dont like Persona I wouldnt bother
Not that guy, but you can advance jobs at certain levels. For example Thief ->Ranger or Thief -> Ninja. At these levels you can completely respec as many times as you want free of charge. But should your level be over that, it gets reset. For example you can choose another job at lvl 30. But if you are lvl 33 and choose to change you will get bumped back to 30.
Ok, thanks.
What makes it so ?
Never understood why you would want to use the whole cast anyways? In which RPG is it a good idea to level all like 15 chars?
Also the fusion management system is pretty easy to use. There are characters that tend to be more physically inclined and some which use magic better. Personas aren't any different in that regard. Just give your physical guys the phsysical personas. Later on, about midway into the game it really opens up by letting you give characters skill cards so they can always use these skills even if the corresponding persona doesn't have that one.
This system can get pretty annoying.
Early game you're still collecting characters, so if the new character has an advanced class that you already chose then you have to piss away a ton of levels.
Late game, the levels you can reset to are so low that you'll be losing even more levels.
Basically what I'm getting at is that you should be really careful about your builds.
More recent RPGs have begun to include the ability for non-party members to remain roughly the same, or even exactly the same, level as the main party. More games should include it, really.
DT2 and DT2-2 are by far the best DRPG ever made.
The map design is great and the combat system is solid. The levelling system has some fantastic elements and some pretty poor elements. The whole game looks and sounds like it cost $50 to make and that most of the money went on the ecchi scenes.

>reverb synth as the melody
that hurts my ears man don't do that
Why does this sound eerily similar to some Megaman X music?
I mean it in a good way.
What a joke
Steam release literally fucking never.
Good :)
Steam already has enough problems with shovelware.

Just kill me Pete.
Untold > originals
deal with it nostalgiafag
No.
"Hoist the Sword with Pride in the Heart" is probably the coolest name for a track in the series.
Wish EO4's 5th stratum was a bit longer and used its god-tier theme more.
