What are some good, fairly recent FPS games? Looking for games with solid singleplayer.
I can't take the CoDshit anymore.

The new DOOM is pretty great.
I do like stories, though, and I've heard that nuDOOM is a return to the roots of 'shoot shit' being the story.
The story is serviceable, nothing too bad, or too great. It makes up for it though with really great gameplay.
If you want solid classical FPS then new Shadow Warrior is good, fast paced game.
D44M, oldschool but modernized the right way
Wolfenstein: TNO if you're ok with more story/cutscenes in your shooters
Shadow Warrior 2013, the second one isn't a classic fps so I can't recommend it
Hard Reset, flawed but nice cyberpunk atmosphere
Call of Juarez Gunslinger, short and good if you like western settings
There's always store.steampowered.com
Wolfenstein, Serious Sam, Crysis 3 are some good ones that come to mind
How recent does it need to be? Anything you might have missed from the last decade? A list of games you've played in a thread like this would be useful.
>Wolfenstein: TNO if you're ok with more story/cutscenes in your shooters
I actually sort of like movie-shooters, but I've already played TNO & TOB.
>Call of Juarez Gunslinger
Excellent game. I would kill somebody for more good western shooters.
CoD Black Ops 3
It has a surprisingly good story. Great, even
>A list of games you've played in a thread like this would be useful.
Hard to remember them all, unfortunately.
Overload although its only in EA and has 1 level proper
Nope new Doom is a pile of shit
My niggas, I fucking loved Gunslinger
Gunslinger is one of those games that is so excellently conceived that you're amazed it could exist among the piles of shit that count for a game these days. The voice acting, the gunplay, the story delivery (retold story, with the mechanic that rewinds when Silas is clearly talking some major bullshit). The plot twist at the end is quite tasty, too, and it's not overly hackneyed.
I've been waiting for something to fill that Gunslinger void but nothing has been nearly as good.
The Shadow Warrior Remake is pretty damn good.
On top of that, I'd add the soundtrack, which really stood out to me
youtube.com
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a much more condensed package with less deep storyline shit and more Nazi Castle shooting. It's probably the equivalent of CoJ: Gunslinger. Short but really good, although Gunslinger is still the better game. What said, it just clicks in everyway and a big part of it is due to its length.
Serious Sam 3 is also a really good pick. Got sidetracked in the first levels when they recycled the military shooter shit they were doing but it comes back to form soon after and kicks major ass. I'm sure Croteam is gonna nail it even further with 4.
And since quality is timeless, go for FEAR, OP. Still one of the most mechanically satisfying FPSes ever made. The weird American Sci Fi x Japanese Horror mix only makes it work even more.
Metro.
2033 and Last Light are both pretty dang good.
have you tried necrovision op?
Played both, and they're both very good.
No, but I just learned of its existence the other day from a 'games only you played' thread and added it to my backlog
I seriously want someone to remake Doom with a bit better sprites and more effects without making it shit.
Lol
I also thought Far Cry 3/4 were okay as time-wasters. The stories were less than compelling, but not too bad.
Anybody who seriously recommends Far Cry 2 should be shot, though.
Why what's the reason, just install mods.
Turok 1 and 2. Just make sure you get the remasters on Steam or you'll be in for bad controls, fog hell, and 20 FPS.
what's the problem with farcry 2?
It's not a very good game. The story is a snoozefest, the 'open' world is awful, and the respawning checkpoint thing just compounds the badness.
This. Most fun I've head with a recent shooter in years. Wolfenstein TNO/TOB are great too. It has a few more modern touches than Doom like leaning in/out of cover and limited health regen, and some stealth sections, but it's still pretty solid.
Doom's story is batshit crazy and fun. And minus one segment where you enter a character's office for story to develop (and to restock on ammo/health) it never gets in the way.
nuWolfenstein is more story driven and its actually pretty good with some fun world building.
You obviously haven't played stalker yet
I did, but I honestly don't like Stalker. It doesn't do anything for me.
Shockingly, I much preferred Metro series over Stalker.
he said recent. Stalker is over ten years old
I said 'fairly recent', and by that I mean anything ~2005 or newer, I guess.
Is over a decade recent?
It's not like FPS had any major breakthroughs since 2007.
Serious Sam 3: BFE
STALKER trilogy
Underhell: Chapter 1
FEAR 1
nuDuum is fucking awful shit for Halo kids, and not a return to the roots in any way. Ignore Zenimax shills and save your money.
>really great gameplay.
Menu surfing, linear maps with tons of obligatory mini-combat arenas, shitty starting stats and motherfucking cinematics ain't my idea of "great gameplay". You Xbots should play more games.
>D44M, oldschool but modernized the right way
Fuck. You.
>Ignore Zenimax shills and save your money.
o-okay
nuDuum is a consolized, dumped down "Brutal Painkiller RPG". NOT an oldschool DooM game by any means.
>Is it oldschool?
Nope.
>Was it fun?
Yep.
>>Was it fun?
No, it wasn't. A prime example of totally patronizing, insulting reboot, aimed to nothing but motherfucking console kids that have let their brains rot with HALO and CoD for 1.5 decades now. None of the nuDuum fags even have played the OG Dooms.
>Being this ass murdered and project his manchild malcontent to this level.
You're hilarious. Doom 4 is great and it doesn't need to be like OG Doom to be. I can only imagine how much you REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE'D when Doom 3 came out.
Fallout 4
Protip: it's a shooter :^)
I didn't hate FO4, but it's hardly fallout anymore.
>spewing memes makes it OK to have shit taste and shit game-design enabler
Excuse me that I expect a game carrying the name of THE FPS game of all times to also PLAY like one, and not be a generic mix and match of all the modern cancers, literally shilled by a paid army of advertizers.
And no, I was fine with Doom 3 back in the days, but it ended up being just a fancy tech-demo.
Doom and modding community is still alive and kicking, pushing out new good stuff every few weeks. Quake modding seen sort of resurgence with release of Arcane Dimensions.
If you like Doom, there's almost no way for you to run out of stuff to play.
Only the first one, second one is shit.
Doom '16 is not oldschool. It's not even Doom. It's Painkiller with Doom's skin. It's not a pile of shit some say, and is not a bad game, but people who call it "oldschool" and "real doom" have literally no idea what are they talking about.
Hard reset is boring and linear.
Necrovision is fine at some points, terrible at other.
If you treat it like an FPS in vaguely Fallout-esque universe then it's fun.
Try out Darkest of Days - its about time travel and fixing up corrupted history.
Borderlands 1 and 2 are good, and if you are having bad luck with drops, using item editor to give yourself stuff that is not godlike, but just good makes the games really fun to play.
Pre-sequel is trash though.
>If you treat it like an FPS in vaguely Fallout-esque universe then it's fun.
It's a shame that the gunplay is so improved and the universe suffered as a result.
Let Obsidian get their hands on the new engine, and I think we'd see something quite good.
>being this butthurt to say Doom 4 players haven't played old Dooms
>being this retarded
sorry u have shit taste m8
Playing the game and understanding the game are entirely different things.
There are still morons who believe that Brutal Doom is the only true doom experience.
I never thought I'd see Underhell get mentioned on Sup Forums of all places. Are we the only people that actually played it?
