It's real but it exists only on Sup Forums. And no, BotW hasn't broken it, as evidenced by all the complaining about it not being a traditional Zelda (i.e. Skyward Sword).

There is no "Zelda cycle", just games progressively getting worse than the last as the devs couldn't stop rehashing the same basic formula over and over until it was stale and lame.
