They could cut out battle animations, the weapon triangle, and promotions. It's still better than Waifu Emblem and if no more axes or WT in FE means no more waifu shit then it's a small price to pay.

I think it's the best out of the 3DS games. I'd rank it below FE4, 5, 9, and 10, but above the rest. That being said though it's going to be a very polarizing game like gaiden was because of how different it is compared to other FE games. I know a good number of people aren't going to like the lack of a self insert, marriage, and weapon triangle. Other things like HP costs for magic will also turn people off.

The general consensus so far is that It's gaiden with updated graphics, story, and quality of life stuff. Meaning the gameplay is just as shitty if not worse at times since warp and falco knights were nerfed.

They already are established characters with their own personalities. Sure, you can choose who they marry.

Well for one, it's not a thunk on the head and you forget. It's more like a reset button that can be pressed at any time. Life with amnesia is basically normal except you've got the knowledge in the back of your head that God can pretty much hit the reset button on your head at any time and there's nothing you can do about it. You don't even realize it's been pressed until things don't add up with life as you know it (that is, the time you got mentally thrown back to) and someone spells it out for you.

And unlike that one Adam Sandler movie implies (yes, an Adam Sandler movie is closer than most any other media I've seen on it, it's surreal), there's no pattern to it. You can go years without a reset, wake up one day, and everything over the past couple years is just gone. This also makes accumulated knowledge like history or law potentially temporary.

Fortunately I apparently planned ahead for this when I got my history degree and have since used it to get a good management position at the restaurant I work at, where I'm using more leadership, teamwork, and communication skills than anything.

It's been 3 years since my last "reset", and the possibility of another one is always on my mind.

It's exactly because of that control over them that you don't have over other characters that people want them so much. Characters like Marth and Ike example have set names and appearances and their romantic partners are also usually set in stone. The self inserts however can be named after yourself and you can make them look however you like. They are surrounded by a cast of characters that will metaphorically suck your dick to an extent other lords don't get and if you so chose they can suck it literally too. The fact that they have their own personalities is irrelevant when you can just pretend that when your slutty big sister is referring to you when she calls your name instead of to a bland piece of corn. Basically they're just trying to make 'you' feel special without actually trying to make an interesting character.

Your reasoning for "why can't you just self-insert as Marth or Alm" is the same reason why I don't know why people just hate MU on principle. Robin and Corrin are just Lords. You can customize them a bit but they already have their own story arcs. Corrin could have been more of a real customizable character if Fates had really let you make significant choices throughout the game, but it doesn't. Not liking Robin or Corrin as characters is different from not liking a My Unit as a concept.

Of course, for me personally, this just means I don't care if MU is in a game or not. I always considered them the same as Lords. Except for Kris, who wasn't really a Lord with a story or character, just Marth's friend who wears funny hats.

It's dull. The maps are boring empty landscapes or castles that are way too big and every character in a class set feels the same because of how promotion works and the lack of weapon triangle.

Here's a thought; try playing through Conquest and getting to the point of choosing to kill Asura. It's the one choice I can remember. And It feels completely out of character to kill him. When a chance to choose what your self-insert will do feels contradictory, it's a sign of a poor self-insert.

And in another example, since you bring up "slutty big sister", go ahead and try to S-rank her. What happens? 'You' immediately bitch about how you don't want to and that it's weird, even though the player is the one who chose it. Having the supposed self-insert contradict a player's choice, even a little, can completely destroy any sense of immersion.

Quite simply, Corrin is a self-insert in name only. Or rather, one that's written as a character, however bland, that got slapped with some superficial traits you can influence. Their being able to support just about anyone is only an expanded version of what you could do with other lords like Roy. Corrin is officially a self-insert, but in practice they're about as much of one as Cloud is in FFVII.

The maps, yeah, they are pretty much the same as in the original.
From what I've heard in /feg/, there is an extra chapter after the main story, which covers the backstory of Grima and you even get to fight him, yet I still haven't gotten there yet, so I can't tell you about the maps there. As I just finished chapter 3.

The story has also been tweaked and there are a couple of side-stories and new characters here and there, but I can't read moonrunes, so yeah...

Gameplay-wise, there have been a few tweaks here and there. Falcon Knights are not as broken as before. And Deen's Brave Sword has essentially been turned into a Killing Edge

Characters growths have been buffed (especially for characters on Celica's side) making the "almost" GBA-era tier. Some characters like Sonia were nerfed and while characters like Deen received buffs.

In conclusion, yeah, I've been finding the game pretty enjoyable until now. It has been more enjoyable than FE11 and FE12 in my opinion.
