Squad

Now that free weekend is over yet the online is still high, what is your honest non-meme opinion on Squad?

How can it be a sim if it doesn't support trackir

It's pretty good, just like it was last year. New vehicles and vehicle weapons have been pretty interesting, and the new map is decent for urban fighting too.

Still all the worst parts of PR's development history cherry picked and rolled together into a turd.

I can never see enemies anywhere but they can always shoot me. What am I doing wrong?

Trash. Stop shilling.

Like what?

I never played PR, but I've watched a lot of videos on it. What negative aspects of PR did Squad take?

Also this. I wouldn't say Squad is trash but its pretty clear somebody is shilling it at this point.

Go say that in dozens of e-celeb threads

It just had a free weekend. Why is it so surprising that people might want to talk about video games?

It's nice

people who dont like it either dont have a mic or experienced a technical issue, which hopefully be fixed in a short amount of time

>Why is it so surprising that people might want to talk about video games?
Because god forbid anyone trying to talk about videogames on Sup Forums
Quickly let's make 10 more eceleb threads

Having the situational awareness of a potato.
OR
having a shit pc since drawdistance is crap.

it's a very different shooter that is unlike all AAA shooters and almost everyone won't like it. If you like PR you will probably love it. i loved the hell out of PR and in its current state PR is better than squad just because PR is a finished game with all of the content there but i'm sure Squad will get there in time soon and the technology is better.

My pc isn't bad. Do I need to change settings from the default? Do I need to learn some kind of real tactics? I just follow my Squad, but I always die first and I never even see the guy.

Depends on many factors, like how you move, where you're approaching enemy hot spots from and so on. Noise discipline is also important, as if your squad is fucking around, taking pot shots at every little thing they see moving, then the enemy will know what general direction you guys are, and knowing is half the battle. Footsteps are also loud as shit, so keep that in mind if you're trying to sneak up on someone.

You aren't missing anything, the game is just a retarded pixel hunt. If you aren't a sniper or someone with a higher magnification scope, you can't see shit at the ranges which engagements take place. Not your fault user, just bad game design.

t. doesn't launch green crayolas in tree lines and get dozens of kills every time

It just takes some getting used to, especially if it's your first more intensely tactics focused FPS (a la ARMA, PR, OFP, and the like).

It takes time to get into the mindset required to actually be decent and have fun with these kinds of games, but basically everyone picks up on it with not as much time as you might fear.

Things like not silhouetting yourself when cresting hills, being aware of where your squad is covering and where gaps might be, where snipers could be hiding, what kind of gear your squad has on hand.

Kind of like how good fighting games are largely about the meta of spacing, these kinds of games are about the meta of "how fast can I move to the best position to kill my enemies/take the point/set up the ambush, etc." The trick though is that the faster you move, the harder it is for you to spot threats, and the easier it is for your enemy to spot you from a distance.

Basically just keep at it, pal around with your squad mates on the local voice chat, ask them for tips in a particular situation. 95% of the time they'll be happy to help get new meat into the grinder so long as you're not acting like an ass.

>you can't see shit at the ranges which engagements take place
It's always funny when scrubs think their shittiness is a universal trait.

I don't like it because when i played, no one had a mic across like 4 servers and if they did they are all idiots. Also it is not even close in the amount of content to PR.

That's interesting, cause I've been on and off for like a year and I can't recall a single time over a third of the squad wasn't on mic.

>no one had a mic across like 4 servers and if they did they are all idiots.
Was this during the free weekend? Retards still exist outside of this period but they're much less common, and mics are practically a requirement as any decent squad kicks silent people.
>Also it is not even close in the amount of content to PR.
Yeah, no one disputes this. It's got lots of glitches and shit too as it's still in alpha.

Well that might be in part that i was on during the free weekend, but still that was across 4 servers and the samething happened to me when I bought it a few months ago and then refunded it after I played for a bit.

Why haven't these piece of shit shills been banned yet?

How dare they talk about video games on the video game board.

Needs MBT's, the new animations like dragging or carrying injured people, bipods for machine guns and a proper cover system. It's really annoying how your character usually is tall enough to either not see anything when crouching behind an obstacle or the view gets blocked by wood in windows or bunker roofs.

A recommendation then, if you give it another shot. Jump on THUNDERDOME (server), great mid-level server, almost always full and peps there are fun and are in the Goldilocks zone of skill where they're fun to play with and willing to help, but not anal douchebags.

>Not everyone gets optics so the game is shit
Holy fuck you're retarded.
And I hate the devs for saying they're not interested in adding VBIEDs even though that was a huge part of gameplay for insurgents in PR.

I'll give it another shot when it has the level of content of PR or maybe when it comes out of early access. Thanks though.

>they're not interested in adding VBIEDs
ffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuck
We're still getting IED's right? What's stopping us from just throwing those on a vehicle?

You mean 10 faceapp threads.

>that feel to poor to buy the game

IEDs are happening they say, supposedly VBIEDs are a "political issue" because Ztrooper is clearly retarded. He should be scrapped from the team, he's holding them back.

>political issue
If it really was about political issues you wouldn't have any Insurgents at all.

I used to get that alot too when i started playing. You'll get used to spotting silhouettes eventually.
Just try to get a normal rifleman with an optics for now, unless squadlead tell you otherwise. Check your sectors, tell your squadmates to check theirs of they are just fooling around. Very often I see squad on the move and everyone just looks at the same one direction. Thats not good.
Of course your squadlead shouldn't get you on the open field where leet noscoper will pick you one by one
And your sniper should take high ground and scan for enemies and provide cover if necessary
Basically what i'm trying to say it might be not just your fault.

I'll keep playing PR for now and hope for Squad to catch up in terms of content and gameplay mechanics before PR goes dead.

At this moment I dislike:
poorly implemented logistics system
FOBs and rally point system
community that is super defensive about the game
amount of content
how fast the development is happening

I do enjoy:
good draw distance
great sound effects
ability to cut off engine in vehicles

>Forest Maps
God dang nigga, they are fucking disgusting. Can't see shit and just fire in the general direction of someone until either you or them die.

>What's stopping us from just throwing those on a vehicle?
Probably nothing. Just have to wait and see.

Are you playing in SEA region?

If so...yeah, you're not wrong on them being idiots.

welcome to war

We get a few chinese speakers that pop up in American servers sometimes, saying they're here just to escape retards in their region. They have a godly high ping, but they form their own squad and speak English well enough to communicate with others so it's all good.

the best urban map is Sumari

Why does Squad lock vehicles?

Because towards the end of PR's lifespan all of the admins simultaneously gave up. They got tired of dealing with children having screaming matches about who gets the 26 ticket 20 minute respawning tanks and simply set up a first come first serve system, whoever creates the squad named "armor" gets them. Same shit for everyone else. (This as a result of the general breakdown of respect for the small chain of command as the quality of the player base deteriorated over time as people upgraded their computers to handle better games and the new players being drawn in consisted mostly of those children and BRs combined with increasingly onerous mechanics to make taking the reigns as commander pointless, but that's another matter entirely.)

Why does Squad lock vehicles?

Because instead of looking into new solutions to why people got into shouting matches in the first place (tanks take FOREVER to spawn and wasting one was the equivalent of half the team dying), the developers decided to codify the "first come first serve" system so that admins would have to do even less work.

Pretty much every major game system in Squad is them trying to slap another bandaid on a gameplay mechanic that worked okay in BF2's engine when it was introduced and was slowly tortured into an unbelievable state over the years. Chances are pretty good from where I'm sitting that the cache based insurgency style will still be a really shitty slog and that the command system will either be mandatory and unfun or pointless and ignored when Squad finally dries up and blows away because all the developers can think to do is copy the final state of these mechanics from PR without looking at their introduction and evolution for why things were done the way they were.

Best rockets I've had in a game so far
So satisfying to use

no hes right some of the devs are clearly retarded. for example you can't "kill" anyone, you can only down them in an incapacitated state where they are invincible until they suicide or get revived by a medic. when asked about why you can't just shoot someone to death on the forums the devs said that would be "not moral". as if its moral to saw someone in half with a machine gun in the first place. as if its moral to leave an enemy dormant until they get revived so they get another chance kill your fellow soldiers.

project reality

> for example you can't "kill" anyone
But you can instantly kill someone by giving them a headshot, they don't end up in an incapacitated state and go straight to the spawn screen. I'm not saying everything you say is bullshit but I feel you exeggerate a lot of things.

Well, if you were playing as US or any other modern military, executing any "incapacitated" enemy would be against the Geneva convention and would be a one way trip to prison. That might be what he was referring to. Insurgents and militia could get away with it though.

Things I like:
+Focus on infantry and lighter vehicles
+Base building
+At it's best the game is very intense and memorable
+Community after the free weekend, most of the new players now are actually willing to cooperate and learn the game
+Sound design
+Many maps have few versions
+I personally like the idea of assymetrical multiplayer

Things I dislike:
-The game is developed too slowly for my liking
-Every retard can become a squad leader
-Animations that take ages and are generally very clunky
-Vehicles can block themselves at absolutely everything (driving itself is quite fun tho)
-Having bad squad leader turns the game into jogging simulator
-Sometimes nothing interesting can happen during the entire game
-Team balance is non-existing
-Absolutely zero options of weapon customization (may be an issue for some people, I personally don't mind it that much)

I actually want to buy this game, but I have no time to play it.

I feel them, except I migrate on Oceania servers.

Aussies are fun squad mates.

>discussion about a game on a game board is shilling

That'd be a cool little advantage to give the insurgents and militia

i haven't played in a while but the headshot thing wasn't in the game last time i played.

even then the point is if you don't headshot them they become downed and invincible and you can't just finish them by shooting them.

it creates a huge liability because not only do you not get credit for the kill, making all your effort useless, you have to endanger yourself by babysitting the downed enemy if you want the kill or risk him getting revived and magically in perfect condition again ready to kill you and your teammates.

in a game that touts its focus on realism it's horrible that devs feel the need to force you into a certain playstyle that suits their views.

>in a game that touts its focus on realism
It's not that the game tries to be as realistic as technologically possible, it's that they create a game that's made to work with it's limits to encourage you to play in a realistic manner with tactics and teamwork. I haven't played Squad, but in the Project Reality forums you'd often have developers shoot down ideas that would be "realistic", but wouldn't contribute well to gameplay. Weapons that randomly jam was a big one, and a medivac system was also a common idea that didn't fly. Instead of having people just immediately die when they're shot, and only being able to respawn at the main base and get back via a transport squad dedicated to moving respawned units back to the front, they use rally points and FOBs to simulate that, and they use epi-pens to effectively double your manpower in an engagement, since squad sizes were limited.

tl;dr It's not Arma and it's not meant to be

insurgents already have fastest vehicles in the game

Why are the Europeans so much more fun to play PR with? All my squads with Swedes in them are a good mix of seriousness in firefights and dicking around otherwise. Whenever I play during the day I just get no fun allowed faggots who call everyone shit and then stop talking in voice chat
t. American

>tfw 3-man Humvee squad with friends

Why is it that every time I play it feels like the entire enemy team is playing as snipers while I only have a shitty iron sights AK47

You're going to notice all the times you get shot.
You aren't going to notice all the times the enemy team gets just as fucked.

I always wanted to listen to children play army man and then get shot by some specks of dust in the distance.

fucking retards couldn't develop a good game if their lives depended on it. what kind of armchair general plays this shit?

I can't kill anyone, but I can be a good healslut

I understand the need for realism, sure, but when one team's rifleman gets an ACOG scope with a bit of a zoom, while the other's rifleman only has iron sights, the other team's rifleman class is objectively inferior to the one that has ACOGs and sights and shit.

Its just simply bad game design

Part of it is overcompensating for free weekend shitters. Once the retard population dies down a bit people will chill out.

This isn't the type of game where it's in your best interest to sit waiting until you have a perfect, clear shot. You have a rifle with 30 rounds in the magazine, 6 or so backup magazines, and a bunch of homies with a similar loadout. Put some fucking lead out and you'll get a lot more done than trying to out-snipe the other guys. Or better yet, maneuver to a position where you can better put your rifles to use.

It's designed to be asymmetrical. Insurgents and militia aren't supposed to have gear as good as the main armies. They make up for it with lightning fast vehicles.

utter dogshit

>shoot
>gun jumps like an autistic child on cocaine
>put some fucking lead out
I'm trying to kill the enemy with bullets not by heart attack.
It's a videogame. hardly anyone would actually be deterred by "suppressing" fire.

oh so it's designed to be shitty
I see

oh so you're designed to be a shitter
I see

>hardly anyone would actually be deterred by "suppressing" fire.
Try actually playing the game, you'll see it works.

Can't wait to play once I have time again coming weekend.

Insulting me wont bring more players to your already dying game.
Nobody wants these gayboi half baked "simulation" games when shit like arma and PR already exist.
People want this type of shit less than the awful survival games ukranian devs shit out.

Idk man I run the fuck away when I hear the snaps of bullets coming my way and I don't know where they are coming from

That ACOG rifleman also gets one less magazine and only one frag grenade.

The American team also doesn't have any HAT kits which is fucking huge seeing as those tandem HEAT warheads destroy anything in one hit.

I get that, but it doesn't translate well into a video game

Ideally you want everyone on a relatively equal footing. Obviously there's going to be some differences, as snipers having much farther range than riflemen, grenadiers have rockets for vehicles, etc.

But in a simple Rifleman vs Rifleman, the team with the better gear and the better sights is objectively superior than the other guys that have shit gear and iron sights.

There needs to be a balance, otherwise people will just keep trying to switch to the team that has the better gear because fuck trying to play as the guys with the shitty gear

>Insulting me wont bring more players to your already dying game.
Inslulting a game you don't understand won't do anything but get people to mock you. Have another (You) on the house, you look like you need it.

Okay faggot
I'll see you in a year when you have one more update and one thousand players left.

>unable to tell if you got teamkilled, but the teamkiller gets a notification that you teamkilled someone
what the fuck is this

>I get that, but it doesn't translate well into a video game
It translates pretty well. One side gets a bonus in one area while the other side gets bonuses in different areas. It's not even a big advantage, only two people per squad on the Russian team get ACOG's, same for US. It's not even hard to aim with iron sights, it's only long range shots that are more difficult.
>There needs to be a balance, otherwise people will just keep trying to switch to the team that has the better gear because fuck trying to play as the guys with the shitty gear
I can tell you haven't been playing long. This isn't a problem at all, especially as the Insurgents get plenty of their own unique toys.

No it doesn't, dumbass. I play squad a lot and suppression is useless memey shit in this game, only effect is that chromatic aberration appears, it doesn't even offset your aim.

PRs maps were leagues better than this.
At least those devs understood that with shitty sights you shouldnt make maps fuckhueg just for the sake of putting a note on the box saying they got the huge nigger dick maps.

I'm not saying spray wildly, I'm saying put somewhat accurate, consistent fire on wherever the enemy is or might be. You don't have to be pinpoint accurate, just close enough. Even just plugging one bullet every second or so (timing obviously depends on range) through a window will do a lot more than trying to out-snipe a guy using an acog. A whole lot of good-enough is better than waiting for something to be perfect.

t. free weekend shitter

oh and to add, PR had cool kit for everyone.
>you had civilians who could help insurgents and be "arrested" with some zip cuffs.
>FUCKING GRAPPLAN HOOKAN
>shotgun shells for the grenade launcher classes
what does this game have? Nothing, boring as hell classes and boring as hell maps with boring as hell objectives.

I first bought it day one, refunded it. Decided to give it another bash while it was free and had a great time, so I bought it. I wont touch TL, i've mostly been playing medic since I don't yet have a mic and I am a pretty damn good medic.

I really really enjoy the game, it can be tense as fuck and if you join a good squad, there can be top bants.

t. paid shill

I like squad, but suppression is objectively shit.

didnt PR remove civilian?

>implying devs have money
Keep crying shitter.

oh wow dude you're so good at virtual war wowee.
fucking kill yourself faggot, the game is shit and ignoring how shit it is wont make it better.

>it doesn't even offset your aim.

But it does.

Tell me when they get Germans vs Russians or Russians vs Chechens

It would be cool if the game would show the nationality of a player.

I play Arma 3 and bought Squad. I really dislike it. No, I'm not a fanboy.

Movement feels sluggish, in a way I find worse than most other games (Arma included). Weird stuff like being able to go prone while sort of sliding off the edge of something but staying put. Jumping feels weird. Player movement seems laggy. Gunplay is unsatisfying but that may just because I'm not used to it. Graphics are poor as is the optimisation.

I hope it gets better but generally I dislike it. The level of teamwork is great, though.

>end up with kills on the scoreboard
>have no clue when most of them occurred
I know it's realistic but the game gives you barely any feedback if you actually hit that guy in the distance or if he just decided to go prone and hide.

Is just shooting towards the general direction of the enemy that effective? And I don't mean spraying like a retard, I mean shooting in controlled bursts.

Quality retort, reddit.

Yeah, if it doesn't kill them it will at least make them want to find somewhere else to go

It's not. Don't listen to the steam sale retards.

Why would anyone play a civilian over a normal insurgent?
