Localizations were even worse back then than they are now.
Because the Chrono Trigger is an item you get in the game that plays kind of an important role.
The protagonist is not the item.
>memories of green
mah nigga
you're right, it should be kurono
there wasn't enough room to fit "Chrono" on the name entry menu, so they cut the h.
These. You can input "ku-ro-no" in katakana, but the english team had to make do.
fuck, i was about to link the chrono jigga playlist but it looks like he got bit by a copyright strike and they all got removed
shame, those were dope
...
fuck cares? you should be playing this
Never played Chrono Trigger. What's the best version of it to emulate?
Not the PS1 version.
DS and SNES are pretty much the same with two differences: DS has (bad) extra content and an alternative option for menu layout.
Never heard of that. Is it a remake/cover of the soundtrack? I'd love some decently produced SNES music covers, especially for CT.
SNES.
I tried to find a copy as a kid, every Gamestop, EB games, Hollywood games, Gamecrazy, Gamer Planet I've been to didn't have it.
Who the fuck names their kid Crono?
The Dimensional Vortices aren't so bad.
The Lost Sanctum though, fuck that fucking mountain.
You think Persona 5's localization was bad? You ain't seen nothing from back then.
this
I remember playing Illusion of Gaia and straight up not understanding motivations of my characters, probably because the translation was so bad.
Felt like there were too many plots happening at once. Stop Lynx, the Dragons, and Lavos. This game had a plot that couldn't focus even though they all linked together in the end. Maybe it was a translation error or something.
who the fuck names their kid Apple?
DS version, just don't do the extra content. You still get the SNES version but with the PS1 version's FMVs (without having to deal with the latter's horrid load times).
Kronos/Cronus is a real name
Breath of Fire was the worst I had seen. Character and item names could only be 4 units long.
Whoever names their apple LISA. Zing!
Remind me, do you HAVE to do the Lost Sanctum for anything beyond a few equip items, that while nice, aren't needed at all to do the other content? I honestly can't recall if you needed that for doing the Time Eater Battle or not, and I really hope the answer is no as that entire thing is just the worse time stall ever invented.
>was in 5th grade
>playing Chrono trigger constantly for days back then
>Teacher asks if the class knows what Chrono means
>I'm the only one that raises their hand
>ITS TIME
Felt so good, thanks Chrono Trigger, I'll never forget you for that one moment.
Thergey-poo, maybe she thpontaneouthry combuthted.
man I miss rpgs where the story wasn't a narcissistic plot about how the cast feels all the time. Where the plot mainly focused on the world in peril and not how a teenager feels about feelings.
Chrono Trigger was the first RPG I ever beat as a kid. Found my dad's PS1 copy and played it, shit was magical. That game, FF7, and Suikoden were just definitive of the PS1 for me.
Dream devourer only needs the vortexes i believe.
It's like you've only played one JRPG
First of all, it's because there isn't enough space in the English version to actually fit in Chrono (since you can technically name him Chrono in JP).
But the real reason is that the game is named after the Time Egg, The Chrono Trigger that revives Crono near the end of the game.
Thank. Fucking. God.
The Vortexes where at least just excuses for stronger post-game 'boss' fights, but that Lost Sanctum is the most bullshit thing to ever be added. I can't even say the final fight for it is even worth the headace of the time warping, the endless climbing up and down with the endless unavoidable battles that just slow you down every fucking time, and god forbid you miss interacting with anything before you go back down to advance any of those stupid side quests, or your forgot to interact with the right one before climbing up.
Which also happens to share the name of the protagonist. Honestly this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If they wanted there to be a differentiation between Chrono's name and the "chrono" in Chrono Trigger, they wouldn't have fucking named him Chrono.
It's just Sakaguchi being cheeky.
user, Lost Sanctum isn't meant to be played for completion. It's a grinding endless dungeon, as in literally endless. It never ends. It's random generated and they added it to make it easier to grind to max level in DS version.
Vortexes are the actual post-game story dungeons.
Character limits maybe?
Or just a limit on the character himself?
But it does technically end since the side quests can all be beaten.
They are repeatable so I'd still say they're infinite.
Mistranslation. His name is actually Clone.
