Is Bier better than the demo? That really disappointed me. Huge bland level with lots of running but nothing to look at. Really contrived and scripted boss battle. Lack of excitement in the typical grunt battles.

I'll never play Breath of the Wild, and I'm not too worried as I hate open worlds. Persona looks like it does a lot of interesting stuff, but I'm worried there's too much story.

I beat Nier Automata (a->e and 8 other endings)
I'm playing P5 now

botw does open world and gameplay right (could do story better)
nier does gameplay, and story right (could do open world better)
p5 so far, is doing jrpg and sim right but i don't think it as game of the year in comparison to botw or nier, it deserve rpg of the year because botw and nier aren't really rpg's when compared to p5's depth.

It has a 20 hour tutorial followed by a 30 hour main game or so, getting all the side content will be another 20 hours or so

The combat in the demo is the same as the game, it doesn't have that much depth. The best thing about the combat is just that it feels good by being fast and perfectly responsive. There's no frustrating or sluggish feeling animation locks or whatever. It's not much of a marvel visually either. The main reason to play this game is for the story and setting. Do all the side quests and start caring for the world and its characters because they're fun and charming and the whole thing overall is quite interesting. That way when everything starts going to shit you'll really be feeling like you just want to fucking die and maybe for the next few weeks you'll feel empty inside because you don't want to move on but there's nothing left to do in the game either.

Fun stuff, really.

The only other Taro game that even contends with Automata is the original Nier, and that's only because of the more likable main cast. Automata has an overall much better narrative and obviously much better gameplay. The side-quests aren't really annoying to do this time around either.
