Why are western developers so lackluster in creativity compared to nip developers?
When western developers want to create something fresh and new we get Horizon Zero Dawn, while a great game still is at least fairly similar to other titles.

because the japanese market is more liable to be receptive to strange games while the western audience likes their games a tad more grounded. Thus you see more riskier weirder games in Japan because they are much much more likely to make their money back

This has to be bait. You could pick any number of innovative japanese designs yet to showcase the creativity of the japanese you pick Dead or Alive. How does those games feature creative character designs? It's good for a fap but to call the cast of Dead or Alive which consist entirely of hot big tiddy anime sameface creative is laughable.
A few answers:
-Japan has an average population IQ of 105.
-They aren't afraid of anything (no societal taboos, no sjw cultural marxism, few censorship etc.) and actually care about transcendance.
-They value design and artistic direction more than raw graphical power.
-They created so many genres of video games they're basically masters of that art by now.

Here's a good example of societal taboos. Think through your favorite japanese pop culture. Has any of them ever mentioned japanese imperial family? And if they have, have they mentioned in negative light? There you go.
I can honestly come up with only one example of this, and it's somewhat obscure seinen manga.
The answer is always the same, japs thinks about the people who plays the games, the west thinks about people who complains about games.
