>During a recent developer’s seminar in Tokyo, called “The Present Conditions and Prospects of the Game Industry,” Hamamura made an appearance and shared his expectations of Dragon Quest XI selling over 5 million units in Japan.
>He continued by saying that he expects the game to outsell both Pokémon Sun & Moon (currently at about 4 million in Japan) and Final Fantasy XV (about 1 million in Japan). Hamamura added during the presentation that Dragon Quest XI could possibly sell even more than what he expects.
someone needs to tell this faggot about ps4 software attach rates
Leo Garcia
In Japan, that sure wouldn't happen in America. Which is why they are scared.
Tyler Adams
That actually could happen.
Isaiah Brooks
*also on 3DS
Thomas Walker
No shit he's right, especially with that point about many people buying both the 3DS and PS4 versions.
Who is scared? I don't think anyone takes America as having anything to do with DQ, why did you bring that up?
Hudson Edwards
if it comes out everywhere at the same time sure why not
Cooper Diaz
>Magazine boss suddenly in charge of predicting shit for Square Enix games.
I guess it's not like they make any pretense of being hard shills for them via Famitsu and that they score every Square Enix game near perfect because of their conflict of interest with them as a publisher.
I mean it's not like it's a secret that Japan is fucking apeshit for Dragon Quest to the point where they have to release it on weekends and it keeps breaking it's own records but this guy can kind of get fucked and let the actual people involved with making the game do the talking and PR.
Easton Ramirez
who the fuck cares about america?
they are talking about japan
Carson Rogers
FFXV outsold Pokemon WW so its not surpring he thinks this
Cooper Smith
>Which is why they are scared.
Scared of what? Running out of copies? Unless they royally fuck something up DQ XI will sell like crazy especially if people buy both the ps4 and 3ds versions and maybe the switch one as well if that comes out.
Adam Richardson
He has no idea what he is talking about unless he means only Japanese sales
Adrian Wilson
IX sold 4 million or so in Japan
Joshua Hall
>14 million vs 6 million u wot Even only counting one game, it still sold more
Connor Wright
>who the fuck cares about america?
People who want to make money normally
Jordan Thomas
No it didn't, Pokemon Sun and Moon was last years biggest selling game at 14 million, Call of Duty was the 2nd biggest selling at I think 11 million, but because Sun and Moon was 2 games that make a whole, gaming news sites were able to do a solid for Acti-Blizz and claim that CoD was the years biggest selling game. Oh yeah and inspite of EAs insane astro turfing and underhanded shilling Call of Duty IW still outsold BF1, and while I hate Activision and Call of Duty it's always fun watching EA get blown the fuck out.
Leo Thomas
>outselling Pokemon lol
Jack Ortiz
in japan maybe, like theres a small chance worldwide? lol
Samuel Butler
*also on Switch
But has to happen first. They've been partially good recently with mainline titles.
Josiah James
Is it? I haven't seen an announcement.
Sebastian Price
When does DQXI release?
>July 29
When does Splatoon 2 release?
>July 21
I dunno about this guy's predictions.
DQ may be almost national treature-tier, but I can't see too many people getting off Splatoon 2 (the current big fad in Japanese gaming) to go out and buy DQXI.
Jack Murphy
Those games target different audiences.
Andrew Anderson
Honestly, he's probably right. DQ is the biggest gaming franchise in japan
Easton Sanders
America doesn't even track sales publicly to nearly the same degree Japan does cause it's next to impossible.
Just to give you an idea of where the tier are at for recent JRPGs
>Pokemon claims to have shipped 10 million globally >FFXV claims 5 million >Persona 5 claims 1.5 million >Nier and Nioh claim 1 million
Juan Collins
IX hold the record for fastest selling game ever in Japan which was previously held by VIII so if the trends follow....hell even X which is an MMO that only came out in Japan still easily cleared 1 million which unless your Monster Hunter, Mario or Pokemon really just doesn't happen anymore.
Luke Ross
Oh and for X this is also for a Wii/U game and it's considered weak sales by Dragon Quest standards. It's getting PS4 and Switch ports now though so that number is likely to balloon soon enough.
Kayden Moore
I think he doesn't realize that many Pokemon fans buy both versions of the game as well.
I don't doubt that players will buy both the PS4 and 3DS versions of the game, but DQ only really sells well in Japan, Pokemon sells well all around the world.
>he's only talking about Japan Oh. Well he might be right, then.
