This is your GOTY. Say something nice.
I honestly feel sorry for the Bloodstained folks. Iga has been preemptively owned.
This is your GOTY. Say something nice.
I honestly feel sorry for the Bloodstained folks. Iga has been preemptively owned.
I hate the aesthetics.
I'd play it if it was on Vita or switch
Woopdie die doo daa day
Yet another generic metroidvania
to play
Back tracking galore
I don't know what I'm even playing
these shit games for
>genuinely wanted Bloostained to be good
>HK suddenly happened
>lost all interest to other metroidvanias
2017 is some 10/10 year for vidya.
>contact damage
>that effect every time you take damage as if a stun grenade blew up in your face
Refunded
You guys have been talking this game up a bunch. Maybe it's time for me to bite the bullet and pirate it.
>Generic
Stop taking damage senpai.
Yeah, I genuinley doubt Bloodstained will reach the quality of HK.
I'd play it if it was on the Dreamcast or Ouya
It doesn't even approach what various better sotn-likes have done.
Art style of black+white+one color is one of the worst intentional missteps i've ever seen in game design.
>contact damage
Literally why I dropped this game. Bad hitboxes only made it worse.
The color scheme is definitely a drag at times, but it makes sense considering the game largely takes place underground. That and the game is easily on par with SOTN.
it doesn't matter if bad decisions "make sense". the priority is 100% for gameplay/design, 0% making sense. it's a video game.
>one of those spitting tall fucks holds his shield up
>obviously you can stand on it
>take damage instead
>enemy slowly walks into me, not even doing an attack
>take damage
Contact damage is only forgivable in games that don't have actual animations or enemies that are spiked. Fuck contact damage.
Other than that I actually really liked the game, but that one thing soured me on it entirely
>my two goty contenders so far are both indie games
what a year
>It doesn't even approach what various better sotn-likes have done.
HK's easily better than SotN itself. I'd say La-Mulana's better but other than that it's the peak of the genre.
>Art style of black+white+one color is one of the worst intentional missteps i've ever seen in game design.
Senpai..
Art style has nothing to do with gameplay or design choices, all of those are more or less sound.
Some enemies heavily mirror Metroid enemy archetypes, so yeah it makes sense that they'd do damage on contact. Also the hitboxes are completely fine.
I wonder if Iga played HK.
>my autism for contact damage means this game is designed badly!
How fucking dumb are you? La Mulana, Super Metroid, and SotN all have contact damage too.
Dude, he's not wrong, that screen shot is like composed of like 35% black nothingness. It's clear they did this to cut corners on a small scale and get the game delivered on budget.
>Bad hitboxes
Now you're just plain lying.
The only gameplay problem was the freezes, I don't know if it was fixed since then.
Also SoTN is some outdated 20 year old rigid shit, you can't keep on pretending forever that this game is good.
>contact with an enemy
>take damage, game freezes
>able to see there's literally 1mm of free space between your model and an emeny
>hitboxes are """fine"""
I'm not an ART EXPERT but it really doesn't look or feel like they did this to "cut corners". What he complained about was the lack of color rather than black foregrounding.
Absolutely amazing game but it's pretty clear they ran out of money.
Pretty hilarious what a competent dev can produce while EA's pissing away millions to produce shit.
>HK's easily better than SotN itself.
no, new thing is not better than old thing because new thing is new. HK doesn't have ANY of the complexity that SOTN does and the environments and setting are garbage as opposed to awesome fantasy.
I never said anything about it being designed badly, I just fucking hate contact damage.
>What he complained about was the lack of color rather than black foregrounding.
it's the exact same thing. i was complaining about the black specifically, not the "lack of color"
it makes me unhappy to play the game. it makes me feel dragged down and in the darkness. don't like that feeling. i play video games to be taken away
You get knocked back when an enemy hits you, then the game freezes and does the stun effect, it doesn't happen on the same frame that you take damage with.
It does a lot to rob the game of colors though, and it cuts the need to draw a fuckton of textures for the black sections.
>tfw Poe's Law
>it's the exact same thing. i was complaining about the black specifically, not the "lack of color"
aham
>"Art style of black+white+one color"
>it makes me unhappy to play the game. it makes me feel dragged down and in the darkness. don't like that feeling. i play video games to be taken away
I think it's meant to make you feel like that to a degree, much like From games.
>Absolutely amazing game but it's pretty clear they ran out of money
I keep expecting it to end and it doesn't. Is there an abrupt ending or something?
I just played through both, and I'd argue HK is the better game. SotN has some noteworthy issues, with the biggest being balance. Even just playing the game normally and not trying to use any of the overly broken stuff you still run into enemies that do 1 damage early as hell in the game, which makes them a complete nonthreat. Granted, people shit on SotN far too often.
Nah, shit's easily 25 hours long, and there's like a few entirely skippable zones if you want to only see the normal ending.
Whole areas with no ties to the story/upgrades and have no bosses
Event breadcrumbs that abruptly stop
Missing bosses
NPCs that serve no purpose
Like I said amazing game but you can see the money dried up towards the end, hopefully HK2 will be stellar.
A lot of NPCs are just there for the hell of it, they're not really supposed to have a purpose.
you'd argue HK is the better game because it is high resolution. Comparing them is laughable.
>SotN has some noteworthy issues, with the biggest being balance
Don't use guides/maps/faqs. You did, or otherwise you wouldn't hve encountered balance issues
>goty
>all environments look the same
>absolutely zero fucking variety in combat
It's a 6/10
yeah this is what im saying
how can you compare a game where you have one weapon/one move to a game where there are hundreds of weapons with unique effects and shit? its laughable. there is nothing that compels the player to play HK, there is nothing to discover and upgrade in a game type that is about discovering and upgrading
I don't think it deserves it, but I do think yooka laylee is going to win inde GOTY
>all enviroments look the same
City of Tears does not look like Fungal Wastes, which looks nothing like White Palace, which...
Quality>Quantity. The world's there to discover.
>BotW
>Nier: Automata
>Persona 5
that's just your shit taste
>the peak of the genre
epic shitpost, kid
I mean, it can be the 2017 GOTY, no prob. Bloodstained comes out 2018 anyway
>We even got an amazing Metroidvania game
What a year.
Take off your nostalgia goggles senpai. They're inhibiting your ability to capitalize.
>so its this game yeah and its like metroid and castlevania right
>but wait, there's more
>it's like DARK SOULS TOO
>>>>>>>HOLY SHITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT GOTYYYYYYY DEEPEST LORE PREPARE TO DIE EPIC FOR THE WIN JAPAN BTFO I ONLY PLAY MY VIDEO GAMES ON EXTREME DIFFICULTY GIT GUD ANY GAMES MADE BEFORE I WAS BORN (2000) ARE DOGSHIT
this is you
The game is nothing like Dark Souls and is not that difficult.
yes sotn has both more quality and more quantity than hk. by leaps and bounds.
>when a redditor doesn't realise that deleting posts does nothing
I laffo'd
then i cringe'd when I saw that terrible mistake. inhabiting? really? yikes
Is it on the Switch yet?
It's a doggy dog world out there user. You can't even trust yourself to use the right word.
If the combat isn't even mildly interesting in a metroidvania there is zero reason to play. Half the fun is getting new weapons and moves
It was good for it's time. It's a relic now.
>2015
>Undertale
>best indie game of the decade, no shilling or marketing, loved from the earliest days of kikestarter beginnings, game is a 100% work of pure dedication and love
>2017
>Night in the Woods, Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight
>relentlessly shilled by devs and their friends, terribly medicore games that would have been ignored if not for substantial marketing budgets and intense viral marketing, quality of the games suffers at the expense of greedy kike developers
what went wrong?
Is it? Because only other castlevania games have passed it in quality and only a couple at that. No modern metroidvania has ever been better. That's an objective fact.
I don't find making numbers go up super engaging. Admittedly HK has some some number grinding shit as well but at least it has very little of it.
It's not about numbers going up its about having some fucking variety in the gameplay
I mean, HK and La-Mulana are trivially better.
Mileena is fucking shit.
>2017
>Shovel Knight
switch release and the various expansions reignited the shilling
>Unironically disliking La-Mulana
neo/v/ has fallen low.
>Implying Shovel Knight needs shilling
I don't see the point in shilling for free expansions.
which is the best way to discover a shitposter.
they are just parroting the previous shitposts where it says environments look the same.
and whoever played the game can easily tell how different is each area.
>hollow kight
>relentlessly shilled by devs and their friends, terribly medicore games that would have been ignored if not for substantial marketing budgets and intense viral marketing, quality of the games suffers at the expense of greedy kike developers
pirated the game actually.
fell in love with it and immediately bought the game at full price.
No idea how it's being shilled relentlessly if the only place i ever saw it mentioned is on Sup Forums occasionally, and not even 24/7 like those AAA games here.
undertale is the one that's shilled relentlessly on major gaming journalism sites and is overrated as fuck.
hollow knight's popularity is just at where it should be.
That's in literally any Metroidvania though. Why play a Metroidvania game then?
Your waifu's heat looks like a piece of lobster claw meat.
That's the act 3 twist.
>Your waifu's heat
She's not in heat, shut up
Sup Forums was always too casual for it, even before the revamp.
> there is nothing to discover and upgrade in a game type that is about discovering and upgrading
There's 3 different offensive spells that all have an upgrade, your sword has about 4 or 5 upgrades it can get, there are 3 sword arts to find, and something like 35 different charms that can change the way you fight and give you some near game breaking buffs. Please play the game before googling it a little bit and shittalking it, because there's still a good amount of shit to find.
There isn't a single Castelvania game better than Super.
Shovel Knight is good, but it's damn overrated. Casuals keep calling it the best indie game when the money dropping mechanic can easily drop money in an unreachable spot and the bosses are all mediocre as fuck when you can pogo them to death fairly easily. Level design is still top notch though.
SAVED
I can't think of another Metroidvania with combat as good as HK. Maybe Valdis Story due to it being more complex and diverse, but the genre at large isn't known for its strong combat mechanics.
Now your waifu's head looks like an down syndrome crow's head.
will they make a ps4 version?
I pirated it a while ago and it just seems competently made and not much else
I quit shortly after entering the overgrown area, how long until it gets interesting?
>lol no theres tons of color diversity
>shows us an image with green, white, black and a bluish tint for most of it
uh huh
>the money dropping mechanic can easily drop money in an unreachable spot
magnet armor son
explain how it's a relic when the controls, design, presentation, and gameplay still exceed every other game in the genre
oh wow, so there's a bunch of shit that didn't require any additional art to be made to add it to the game, like "charms".
whereas, sotn has like 150 weapons. and then one time use weapons and food etc. rofl.
why doesn't someone just make a game on the scale of sotn again i just can't understand
Each charm has unique art to it, and multiple weapons in SotN share sprites with each other or are just recolors. That and a good chunk of the weapons become weak and unfun to use after the mid point of the game.
Then again, you're grasping for straws on something that doesn't really improve the game all that much. Also ignoring SotN's horrid balance issues and overall lacking difficulty doesn't make those problems go away. You're attacking HK super hard despite the fact that SotN has a fucking slew of issues.
You gotta get the dash for shit to start feeling better, which you get in that area. Then when you start getting the other magics the combat starts to feel way better, the first boss is exceedingly basic and pretty boring because of how little you start the game with.
Still doesn't make the money dropping mechanic out of place. They just said "DUDE DARK SOULS LMAO" and plopped that mechanic sloppily in there.
Borderlands must be a really good FPS because it has lots of guns.
I want to cum inside that bug
>drop money in an unreachable spot
use Gathering Swarm
>the bosses are all mediocre as fuck when you can pogo them to death fairly easily
say that to Mantis Lord or basically any boss after that.
I was talking about Shovel Knight yo, most bosses in HK have mechanics to prevent pogo murder.
borderlands guns arent discretely designed, non-argument, thanks for playing
Don't ignore my post :3c
I haven't even played this game and I don't know much about it but I've always felt this character needed a cute pair of panties, so here.
Who else waiting for the switch version?
Most of the weapons are barely a step above them.
