Theoretically it should be a lot less resource intensive to emulate the PS4 since it's x86, the emulator can use direct-IO and run the games naively on your desktop processor

accurately emulating each SPU on a PS3 requires a tremendous amount of CPU power. a $600 Intel CPU that's been overclock can easily be brought to its knees.

source is that pic related, persona 5 running on a $600 i7. barely reaches 7fps in interpreter mode. you can get it to run better but that involves using dirty hacks and sacrificing emulation accuracy which means bugs and crashing will be more prevalent.

The cell advertised itself as 8 core cpu. I think it's safe to assume that an emulator HAS to optimize for more cores to get that running acceptable.
Of course the games have to be made with that in mind too.

you can get the emulator on your PC right now and view how the emulator works. accurately emulating SPUs is slow as shit. using workarounds will make it run faster but you sacrifice accuracy and that's very bad.

it's not impossible, PSP can do almost flawless PS1 emulation. PCs can do PS2 emulation no problem too. PS3 is where things get fucky because of the system architecture. Nintendo doesn't use the same tech because they're a bunch of cheapasses. Reminder that Gamecube/Wii/Wii U all use the same CPU architecture and that's why emulation has progressed so fast for those.

emulation is never the superior experience when it tends to bring alot of problems. it takes years for it become decent or good. PS2 emulation had to wait for win7 to arrive because the directx 10/11 was the way to emulate and fix a bunch of problems.
take the DS emulation for exemple you still have slow down on games even with today PC hardware

I have a feeling that the movement system is different on PS3. I think on PS3 diagonal movement makes you walk while PS4 has free movement. Unless my controller is just beyond fucked.

Emulated games do and most (if not all) VNs do. Hence finding it something I prefer to have in a Persona game (on top of speed-toggle random encounter, which is something I prefer to have in JRPGs) I don't think having this preference is all too uncommon when it comes to VNs. So hence I asked.
